We just discovered that for a very limited time, Sears is offering free shipping on ALL directly sold mailable tools, without a minimum order amount.

The minimum order amount to be eligible for free shipping was $39 the other day, and (if I recall correctly) $79 before that, which were still decent offers that we of course took advantage of. This offer is even tempting, and one that I won’t be passing up.

See here for exclusions. Note that this link describes the promo end date as 2/28/10, but we also saw mention of a 2/13/10 end date. It’s safer to assume that the true end date is the sooner one.

A few weeks ago, we ordered a few Tanos Systainer storage trays from Lee Valley. These polystyrene compartmentalized storage trays are designed to fit into Systainer boxes, but we intend to use these trays in a few drawers to hold loose parts and tools.

From now until 2/14/10, Rockler Woodworking & Hardware is offering a 20% discount off of one eligible regularly priced item with coupon code V0731.

This is going to be a tough one – do we get the vise we’ve had our eyes on, or a set of quality parallel clamps? Neither of these items from our wishlist have been on sale anytime recently; decisions, decisions…

For those of you that are getting in on this sale, what did you use the coupon on?

Dewalt recently released a whole slew of new Impact Ready bits and accessories, including twist drill bits and hole saws. We had the opportunity to give these new drill bits a spin, and as you will soon see in this review, we think they’re absolutely fantastic.

County Comm’s Screw Key is a set of two key ring sized screwdrivers that includes one Phillips driver, and one slotted driver. These mini drivers are constructed from heat treated and hardened steel, and have an industrial-looking black oxide coating.

If it came down to a choice between these County Comm drivers and a Screwpop keychain tool, we would be hard pressed to decide and would probably end up with both. We like that these screw keys are more simplistic and compact in design, but the Screwpop offers more features (bottle opener and 1/4″ nut driver), and looks like it would provide more leverage.

The Screw Key costs $5 over at County Comm.

Over at ProToolReviews, Tom Gaige  has reviewed Husky’s 6-drawer tool chest (26PCHTHD), and rated its quality and performance as 9/10, and its value as 10/10.

We recently posted about Husky’s new tool storage units, but Tom’s is the first independent review that we’ve seen. The review is quite detailed, and lauds the chest’s build quality and user-friendly features. Check out the full review over at ProToolReviews.

It’s that time of year when I try to put chaos into order and try to organize and tidy things up. As I was getting ready to order a few more Stanley 25 Compartment Organizers, I noticed that there’s a new promo on Amazon where you receive a free 12-inch soft tool bag (512100) with every $50+ order of Stanley hand tools, flashlights, or tool storage.

The free tool bag looks a little less robust that some of Stanley’s other styles and sizes, but it looks decent enough. The 12-inch soft tool bag retails for about $18.

Milwaukee’s 2300-20 M-Spector AA Digital Inspection Camera is now $99 via Amazon. The M-Spector allows for the inspection and examination of difficult to reach or occluded areas, such as within walls, pipes, machinery, and other such places.

This version is powered by four AA batteries, includes a 3′ water-tight flexible hose that fits through 3/4″ holes, and features a 2.4″ 320×240 pixel screen with an adjustable 2x image zoom, and features variable brightness LED illumination.

Previously, the lowest price we’ve noted was $103, and that was back in March. Since then, the price on the AA-powered M-Spector typically hovered around $109 at Amazon.

If you’re looking for an inspection camera or digital borescope, this is the likely your best option for under $100.

We just noticed that the Rockwell Jawhorse  is now (possibly only temporarily) priced at $161.99 on Amazon, which is 10% off the normal price of $180. The Jawhorse is eligible for Free Super Saver Shipping.

It is unclear as to whether this is a permanent or short-lived price drop, but we will post an update if we are able to find this out. Up to now, the lowest price we could find was $166 shipped from Woodcraft.

Edit: As of ~9pm today, the price jumped back up to full price to $179.

From now thru February 28th, John Paulding is extending a free shipping offer to ToolGuyd readers, valid on all orders for The Hammer. The Paulding Hammer is ordinarily priced at $140.60 ($129.90 + $10.70 flat rate shipping), but if you mention coupon code “ToolGuyd,” that $10.70 shipping fee will be waived.

If you’re not yet familiar with Paulding’s Hammer, you definitely have to check it out. John Paulding’s hammers are entirely USA-made, and as we’ve said before, they’re so finely crafted that they’re practically works of art! Initial feedback is quite positive, which is as we expected – The Hammer is definitely a praise-worthy tool.

Craftsman Labs is a small microsite that features videos of Craftsman power and hand tools being subjected to grueling tests and extreme conditions. The guys over at the Craftsman Lab are ready to make new videos and obliterate more tools, and are asking for viewers to offer tool-torture video suggestions of their own.

You can check out their videos over at Craftsman Labs, or Craftsman’s YouTube page. Once at the Craftsman Labs page, navigate to What’s Next to suggest a future video test.

Socket hockey? Vacuum bowling? Pushing a mannequin holding a cordless drill off of a seven-story building? Toolbox piñata? These tests aren’t exactly representative of the sort of extreme conditions tools may encounter in real life, but they’re nevertheless really fun to watch!

Oxmoor House is recalling nine home improvement books since they “contain errors in the technical diagrams and wiring instructions that could lead consumers to incorrectly install or repair electrical wiring, posing an electrical shock or fire hazard to consumers.”

We’ve seen several posts elsewhere about this recall, but figured it couldn’t hurt to mention it ourselves. Following are publication details of the recalled books, as well as a link to the US CPSC recall press release.
