Five Tell-Tale Signs That You Are a Tool Enthusiast

You may be a tool enthusiast if:

  1. You sometimes dream about tools.*
  2. Every long distance out of town trip or vacation must include visiting at least one tool shop.
  3. You get easily frustrated when you see people misusing the wrong tools for the job. No, slotted screwdrivers are NOT crowbars, and a butterknife is NOT a screwdriver or prybar.
  4. You develop a strong frustration when a colleague replaces a broken tool for the 5th time at $10 each in a year because the higher quality tool you recommended in the first place was “way too expensive” at $25.
  5. Delivery truck drivers and mail carriers dread the beginning of the month when your tool budget resets itself and the new month’s sales flyers and tool catalogs start rolling in.
*This will usually happen when shopping for a particular tool online right before bed; last night I managed to decide to try out one brand of precision pliers over another!!

    May I add number 6 ?

    6. You have a two foot high stack of tool catalogs conveniently located in the bathroom.

Great list, I read it nodding my head yes to all five.

  2. Absolutely!

My wife would never approve of catalogs in the bathroom, so they’re kept in various places.

Everyone, feel free to add additional points!

    7. Your vehicle can drive itself to Sears, Woodcraft, and Northern Tools.

    8. Even though you don’t buy ‘gimmicky’ tools anymore, you love getting them for Christmas.

    9. You find “spare” time to write an entire blog on the subject and update it daily.

These don’t really fit on this list….

**I get really irritated when I borrow someone’s sockets, and they don’t have them on rails, just scattered in a drawer!! It makes absolutely no sense – how can you find anything?

**OWNING the correct tool, but not having it when you need it really frustrates me. For example I have some specialty tools – I go out of town to visit family for Christmas – a family member’s car requires repair which could use this very tool, however I don’t have it with me!

    Here’s one that’s more appropriate –

I was at work and a cabinet had a loose screw. A coworker said she had a screwdriver lying around and went to get it. She returned with a hard-handle Snap on screwdriver!!

    I said, wow, Snap-on!

She said something like, I have no idea what it is, I just found it lying around somewhere.

    sheesh!!

    to the above

I try to convince them into trading me it for a BRAND NEW chinese driver :P

Isn’t that when you break out the chrome plated 25 function thing someone got you for Xmass and dazzle her into trading?

If all else fails break out the chocolates.

  9. uthscsaedu says:

I bet if I just asked her for it she would give it to me!

It’s not a mechanics shop, just a medical office, so I have no idea how a screwdriver like that would even find it’s way there.

  10. uthscsaedu says:

    10. Your front porch collapses and kills more than three dogs.
    11. You mow your lawn and find a car
    12. You’ve been married three times and still have the same in-laws.

    opps, wrong list!
