Makita Cordless Drill/Driver & Impact for $125 Today Only

Over at Amazon, their “deal of the day” is Makita’s compact cordless tool combo kit. This kit includes a 10.8V 1/4″ hex driver and an impact driver, for $125 (normally $160 and up). The combo also includes a charger (of course), 2 batteries, and hard shell storage case.

The drill/driver features 2-speed settings (0-350, 0-1300 rpm), and a 200 in-lb maximum torque rating. The impact driver has a 0-2400 rpm and 800 in-lb torque rating. By no means are these the best specs on the market right now, but the tools do offer quite decent features in a compact and very affordable package.

PB Swiss Gold Plated Multicraft Screwdriver Set Sale

Over at Amazon, this PB Swiss screwdriver set (7244) is on sale for a hair less than $30. The set features gold plated shafts and black Multicraft hard handles, and includes two Phillips drivers and four slotted drivers. This set is normally priced at about $70, making it a steal at $30.

You can also buy these drivers individually, but they cost about $9 each on average. Personally, I prefer PB Swiss’s SwissGrip handles for slotted and Phillips style screwdrivers, but these Multicraft handled drivers are easier to clean and almost as comfortable in high torque applications.

About two weeks ago, we talked a bit about Amazon’s PB Swiss and Wiha sales? Of course we took advantage of these sales ourselves! Above is one of Jeff’s recent purchases of 2 screwdrivers, 2 cold chisels, and 7 punches. Total cost – $14.

Here’s a photo of the Wiha, PB Swiss, and Beta tools I recently purchased from Amazon. The orders spanned the course of 2-3 months, and the lot cost about $70 total for the 44 tools.

So how do we find these sales? Careful searching. That, and frequent checking of Amazon’s sale section! I have the following links bookmarked and check them once a week or so.

Harbor Freight Coupons: Free Flashlight & 20 Percent Off

I’m now finding Harbor Freight advertisements and coupons all over the place, while six months ago I had never seen even a single printed flyer. Now, there’s one in the Sunday newspaper, one in the free weekly sales flyer bundle that comes in the mail, and they’re even popping up in more magazines.

Included in all of the flyers are product-specific coupons as well as “free flashlight” and “20% off” super coupons.

And before anyone asks, no, I cannot provide you with scans of these coupons; I just wanted to give you guys a heads-up as to where to find them. You can find a 20%-off super coupon (with a December expiration date) in the September Popular Mechanics issue. Where else have you found these coupons?

It is possible that I didn’t notice these advertisements before, but their greater frequency seems to tie in with Harbor Freight’s recent pro-active marketing tactics.

The last time we saw this set on sale was over a year ago, and the price was $40 plus $9 shipping. With an average retail range of $55-65, $35 shipped is pretty darn good. Alternatively, Gearwrench’s 2-piece compound plier set is priced at about $40 all the time.

$6.17. That’s right, Jeff spent little more than $1 per driver. How did he do it? Savy searching. How can you do the same? Take another look at our Amazon Shopping Cart Tactics post.

Searching for heavily discounted Wiha screwdrivers usually works wonders as well. But, that won’t help you find products which are on sale but with inaccurately low list prices such as the PB Swiss Torx driver set we mentioned the other day.

PB Swiss Torx Set For an Unbelievably Low $15

Amazon has gone crazy with their PB Swiss tool pricing. Some of their product offerings have been priced ridiculously low lately (50% discount or more!). These items often jump back up in price after a single purchase is made, which is why we haven’t been mentioning these deals. BUT, we did find a great deal that looks to be stable.

PB Swiss Torx Screwdriver Set, for $15. The deal seems stable because the list price is incorrectly listed as $17, instead of $60. This set (model #6440C) includes 6 MultiCraft Torx screwdrivers with sizes T8, T9, T10, T15, T20, and T25.

We’re huge fans of PB Swiss tools. Their handles have great ergonomics, and their screwdriver tips are strong and precise. I prefer their SwissGrip handles, but at this price, I’ll gladly suffer the still-decent texture of the MultiCraft handles.
