I came back just a few hours ago from Black & Decker University, a facility that is largely used for the training of Dewalt employees and business partners. Along with nearly 3 dozen other bloggers, writers, and magazine editors, I had the opportunity to attend the unveiling of Dewalt’s new 12V MAX lithium ion cordless power tool product […]
As we mentioned earlier, new Bostitch hand tools have started popping up at Lowes home improvement stores. While it’s great to see new hand tools, especially from dependable brands, we imagine that the great folks over at Estwing and Dasco Pro aren’t too happy to see their own products removed from Lowes’ shelves. That’s right, much […]
Did you know that Amazon now sells building supplies? Well, they do. I know that Amazon has maintained a contractor supply shop in Beta status for a while, but building supplies is a whole new level! I’m almost afraid to think about what they’ll start carrying next! Contractor Supplies via Amazon (BETA) Building Supplies via […]
As expected, Knight Rights released a statement in response to the mass seizure of folding knives from retail stores by the NYC DA’s office. Knife Rights Chairman Doug Ritter said: “the outrageous claims made by [District Attorney] Vance to rationalize his shakedown of honest knife retailers during his press conference were all deliberate misrepresentations or […]
The other day I read that sporting goods and home improvement stores were being forced to contribut substantial resources to some type of “fund” because of the types of knives they were selling. Now, it looks like the Manhattan DA is going on a miseducated spree confiscating “illegal” knives at Home Depot and other stores.
As part of this weekend’s 3-day sale, Sears is offering a 50% discount on “all” Gearwrench products. The sale doesn’t appear to be fully functional online, but you shouldn’t have the same issue in-store. Unless you want to buy non-wrench or socket set Gearwrench products such as a Roto Ratchet or specialty tool. In that case, […]
As we discussed when the Craftsman-Ace partnership was first announced, Craftsman tools were expected to be stocked by Ace Hardware locations ahead of Father’s Day. Reader Eric sent us a note that he heard a radio advertisement which mentioned Craftsman tools carried by Ace. We have also seen some heavy Craftsman promotion by Ace, especially on […]
I’m a laid back guy, but there are a few things I really don’t want to hear while working on a project. Oh darn, I broke a nail, and now have to go file it. Unless you’re a woman or bleeding. I cannot help with that because my hands might get dirty. Ever hear of gloves or […]
So far, we’ve discussed quite a few tools as part of our Father’s Day Gift Guide. There are still 10 days left to shop for the perfect gift for your father, father-in law, husband, uncle, son, nephew, or other dads in your life. To help you out, here are some of the power tools we’d […]

Without further delay, here is the second part of our hand tool gift guide. Do you have some hand tool gift ideas we didn’t mention yet? Don’t be shy, tell us about […]

I’ve had Craftsman’s 2008 Holiday Tool Preview catalog on my desk for a few months now, but have not quite found the right time to talk about it. Actually, I don’t think that there will ever be a good time to talk about it – it’s not exactly a simple or straightforward issue. The thing […]
For a few weeks now I’ve been writing a series on crafting tools over at Tamdoll’s Workspace crafting blog. It’s always fun to take a break from my normal thought processes to think and write about tools with a different eye. Following is a list of tool post topics that already went up – I encourage you […]
I received the new 2010-2011 tool catalog from Sears today. From the looks of it, Sears is wasting no time in advertising their new partnership with Hitachi. Whereas in the previous 2010-2011 catalog version, there were few Craftsman tools on the cover, this edition features only Craftsman and Gearwrench wrenches.
The randomly selected winner of our $50 Woodpeckers Tools gift card giveaway is… Pat! Congratulations Pat, and thank you to everyone else for your participation! The winning entry can be viewed here.
Here’s the deal – the other day someone left a comment posing as a contractor and spoke great things about a company whose product the post was about. I remember seeing this same exact comment on another forum or blog a few weeks ago, so I did some googling. It appears that someone going by […]
I don’t know about you, but except for a chain saw, an angle grinder is about the last thing I want to be more compact and slim. It looks as though I’m in the minority here as both Bosch and Ridgid offer small slim grip angle grinders. Maybe they’re on to something after all.
Well, it appears that the Craftsman Rewards Program is undergoing major changes as it is absorbed into the Sears Shop Your Way rewards program. This is both good and bad, depending on how you look at it.
There’s definitely something strange going on between Sears and their Craftsman brand, and I have a feeling that it goes way beyond the recent agreement to sell Craftsman tools at Ace Hardware. Just take a look at the cover of Sears’ 2010-2011 tool catalog – Craftsman tools are missing!
We’re hoping that you guys could help us out – we’re looking for a USA distributor for Gray Tools. We know that you can find local USA dealers via the Gray Tools website, but we specifically want to source an online dealer. We had already tried asking Gray Tools about this via email, and about the […]
