The Hammer, designed and crafted by John Paulding, is by far one of the most magnificent tools that we have ever laid our eyes upon. Still, merely describing The Hammer as a machinists hammer, as exemplary as it is, would never do it justice. Not just a tool, The Hammer is a work of art!
I needed to make two cuts in a length of 1″ Schedule 40 galvanized steel pipe, and did not have the tools available to do so. There are many hand and power tools that would have been appropriate for a job like this: an angle grinder, chop saw, metal cutting circular saw, snap pipe cutters, rotary pipe […]
Channellock recently announced a new smaller sized V-Jaw tongue and groove plier. Similar in design to its larger brethren, the pocket-sized 6-1/2″ 412 plier is better suited for smaller or reduced access jobs.
I was browsing for tools recently and came across an Estwing axe over at Sears’ website. Behold, the Fireside Friend Splitting Tool! Great for splitting those friends that never return borrowed tools!
Happy Epstein, a very well known and reputable hand tool distributor, just launched their new online store! Their new storefront features a shopping cart and checkout system for easy-as-pie ordering. There’s also a search engine, country of origin info for every item, straightforward catalog navigation, and… flying tools!
Kershaw’s E.T. external toggle knife is one sleek looking blade. Relatively lightweight at 3.7 ounces, the E.T. features a 6061-T6 anodized aluminum handle, and 3-1/4″ Sandvik 13C26 stainless steel blade with a bead-blasted finish. These are decent specs, but what really sets this knife apart from ordinary pocket folders is its unique toggle mechanism.
Brown Dog Welding, previously admired here on ToolGuyd, has released several new fantastic looking sculptures. One of the designs that appeals most to us is the Big Horn chopper, shown above. Another great looking piece is the Speedy Gonzales, shown below.

That’s right, we found some PLAID Duck-branded duct tape. The pictured 10-yard roll was close to $4 at Target. $4 for 10 yards is far from a bargain since you can get twice as much tape for the price if you opt for a more conservative color, and even more if you go with traditional […]
First of all, we absolutely LOVE Xuron pliers and shears. Yes, we know that we’ve mentioned this before, but great products like Xuron’s deserve the fresh attention. Second of all, we absolutely LOVE the above product image. Here’s why Xuron products are among our favorites hand tools, and why we think that Xuron is an upstanding company: great […]
Delta has recently introduced a new line of premium full-kerf saw blades. These premium blades are designed with several ‘practical blade enhancements,’ such as: a 50% increase in the size of carbide to allow for additional re-sharpenings, refined geometries for an improved cut, and reduced noise for a quieter cut. Okay, let’s get this straight – Delta’s new […]
“I’m looking for a first pair of retaining or snap ring pliers. What do you recommend?” We hear this a lot, and often recommend that Channellock is the way to go. Why? Well, Channellock’s internal/external universal retaining ring pliers are high quality tools that are easy to use and are very affordable. Channellock’s interchangeable tip retaining ring pliers typically […]
As many of you are already aware, we are giving away tools as part of this month’s ToolGuyd Tool Giveaway. Well, we’re not going to reveal all of the prizes/gifts just yet, but there’s no harm in offering up a brief sneak peek. One of the top items included in the giveaway is the above pictured Craftsman deep offset […]
Swanson Speed Squares can be used as a try square, miter square, protractor, line scriber, and saw guide. In other words, it’s a pretty handy layout tool that should be found in every home and shop. At the very least, it makes an excellent straightedge. We’ve been using an orange Swanson Speedlite square for about […]
Photo by izthistaken (Matt Trombley) Josh Welton, the skilled artist and craftsman behind Brown Dog Welding, uses his talent to turn ordinary hardware and scrap metal into elaborate models and sculptures. The incredible motorcycle model shown above is a great example of what he can do. Brown Dog Welding is a welding and fabrication shop […]
So I received my new Kershaw Onion Leek pocket knife the other day. I needed (wanted) a new pocket knife, and spent quite some time narrowing down the options. It was a tough choice to make, but I ultimately chose the stainless steel Leek since it seemed to best fit my needs. Following is a partial […]
Xuron produces superb precision tools – we love their pliers, shears, and scissors. Xuron tools are durable, comfortable to use, provide exceptional performance, are very affordable, and are made in the USA. Our favorite Xuron tools are their non-serrated short nose pliers (pictured above), fiber cutters, and tweezer nose pliers. We are also huge fans of Xuron’s flush-cut micro shears (also […]
We are not quite sure why, but over at Sears.com there is currently a double Craftsman Club discount on an unspecified selection of Craftsman wrenches. For the time being (until perhaps an error is corrected) select non-ratcheting wrench sets are being discounted by 36%!! The double discount has been observed on the following products – please […]
The main advantages of a dead-blow over a standard rubber mallet are the reduction of recoil and increase in striking control. The dead-blow excels in loosening stuck or stubborn parts, and also comes in handy when a breaker bar cannot provide enough leverage to turn a fastener by itself. Stanley’s 21oz Compo-Cast is my dead-blow of choice, […]
We found these wire management hooks over at Lee Valley, and their simplicity betrays their utility. Sure there are cheaper or elaborate options out there, but at less than $3 apiece, these hooks offer the perfect balance between economy and efficiency. Lee Valley is an awesome store that I always hesitate to order from. You see, every time […]
