It’s official, SK Hand Tools has declared bankruptcy. Rumor of the bankruptcy was relayed by a GarageJournal forum member, and then confirmed by another after receiving an email from an SK distributor. It is also rumored that Ideal Industrials, who recently acquired Pratt-Read and Western Forge, is interested in buying up the company. We have our fingers crossed. If […]
Yesterday we mentioned a judgement against Home Depot for copying a patented saw design that they refused to pay the inventor for. I searched for additional information about this online, but without pulling the court documents, we have no choice but to rely on secondary sources. After scouring the web a bit, a few additional […]
Just saw this on the Consumerist – Home Depot lost a lawsuit and was ordered to pay $25 million for copying a saw guard invention that it refused to buy for use in its stores. Home Depot Called Arrogant and Ordered to Pay Inventor Millions
Sears Blue Tool Crew just announced that Hitachi power tools will be added to their product catalog. From the sounds of it, there will be some heavy sales to promote the Hitachi brand at Sears as Father’s Day approaches.
Breaking News: Man buys $600 saw, injures self, sues over lack of features included in $1600 saw. Although you cannot see it, I am rolling my eyes and sighing dramatically. Following a recent lawsuit where an injured man won a settlement against Ryobi, a Chicago man is now suing Bosch over injuries inflicted while using […]
The anticipated merger between Stanley and Black & Decker was finalized about two weeks on 3/12. I don’t think that the new company will start joint branding their existing product lineup, at least not anytime soon, but one thing is certain – they definitely need a new logo. Stanley and Black & Decker Merger Complete
Well, it appears that the Craftsman Rewards Program is undergoing major changes as it is absorbed into the Sears Shop Your Way rewards program. This is both good and bad, depending on how you look at it.
There are a few updated details about the new partnership between Sears, Craftsman, and Ace Hardware that we thought you would find interesting. That, and we cannot keep our thoughts about this to ourselves for any longer.
To help improve sales, Sears has agreed to sell Craftsman branded tools through Ace Hardware. Early reports are saying that the partnership will start with 100 Ace stores carrying about 10% of the Craftsman product line by May. It has not yet been decided if Sears will roll out this “store-within-a-store Craftsman offering” to all 4500 […]
I stopped by Advance Auto the other day and noticed a rather prominent and huge Gearwrench tool display. Screwdrivers, sockets, pliers, ratchets and adapters, sets, oh my! I believe I also saw a “Danaher Tools” banner in a corner of the store window as I walked in, so perhaps additional Danaher tool lines will soon be carried by Advance.

Please excuse the tone of this post as I am both excited and horrified. There I was, minding my own business browsing the tool categories at Amazon, when I came across Craftsman tools offered for sale. First Ridgid tools are picked up and added to their product catalog, now Craftsman? Craftsman tools being offered for sale by 3rd parties […]
I suppose this was to be expected. First, Sears recently launched the standalone Craftsman.com store. Then, they reinstated a rolling Craftsman Club promo period – did you notice that the past few promos were 4-5 weeks long each? Well, now they’ve launched a new rewards program where purchases earn you points that can be redeemed […]
The Home Depot (THD) and Klein Tools recently announced Home Depot to be the exclusive home improvement retailer of Klein’s hand-held tools. Under the agreement, “…Home Depot will offer Klein’s complete line of durable, high-quality electrical tools and will be the sole home improvement retailer of all existing and future product lines.”
Sears’ Craftsman brand has launched its own stand-alone online store!! Perhaps this is the beginning of an autonomous Craftsman that I have been dreaming about for years? Here are my observations thus far: The Craftsman store seems to be based off of Sears’ shopping engine The Craftsman store only offers for sale Craftsman products (duh) […]
With Father’s Day soon approaching, Home Depot has launched several enticing new gift card designs including one that comes with a free 3/16″ drill bit, and one that looks and feels like duct tape. These designs are not available online (yet?) – head on over to your nearest Home Depot to check them out. I […]
A few days ago in Austrailia, a doctor used a household drill to bore into a 13 year old’s skull to relieve pressure on his brain due to a blood clot. The drill was sourced from the maintenance closet since the hospital was not equipped with any neurological drills. Now I’m wondering, what drill was […]
The Consumerist recently ran a string of posts discussing the troubles one person had in trying to exchanged rounded Craftsman sockets. Some of the replacement-denial excuses given by Sears associates conflicted with previously stated official policies, and one even seems to have been outright fabricated. Brian, a lifelong Craftsman user, unsuccessfully tried to exchange nine rounded […]
