Prob no one will read this, but just got some hands on inspection of the new line. The recip saw does not have an adjustable foot unlike the 18v version, and the circ saw has stamped baseplate rather than the cast aluminum 18v version. Wtf is that all about, this is a super premium line with budget features?
The mini drill is pretty light in hand without battery while the other drills feel the same if not almost heavier than the 18v version they replace.
Just want to remind peoples to look at the details before buying into the new stuff. That non adjustable shoe on the recip is lame.
I’m not sure what you were looking at, but the 20V Max circular saw absolutely does not have a stamped base plate. I have one on the test bench, and it has a very rigid 3-dimensional magnesium plate like the 18V version.
And the reciprocating saw does have an adjustable shoe – it pivots and can be extended with 3 fixed depth settings.
I did not do direct comparisons between drills, but I’m hugely in favor of the new handle designs. Balance and ergonomic-wise, the new drills are an improvement over the previous 18V designs, at least in my opinion.
Saw them at lowes in ohio, on a clearance shelf, it was a combo pack sold without batteries and charger……..absolutly the new 20v max stuff. And definitely lacked the described features……..maybe a early run? Glad to hear that the revision B versions have those features.
I’m not quite sure what you saw, but I have not seen any 20V Max circular saws with stamped base plates. Even the early production models we saw in June had magnesium plates. I’ll try to look into it, but the whole thing sounds unusual.
mnoswad1, I owe you a HUGE apology – it looks like you were absolutely right! It turns out that the circular and reciprocating saws bundled in the 4pc and 5pc combo kits are different than the ones in the standalone tool kits.
