DIY Red Oak Hex Bit Holder

JeffD Oak Hex Bit Holder Organizer

ToolGuyd contributor and frequent commentor JeffD made this very awesome hex bit holder out of oak. The wood bit organizer is made from 2″x2″ red oak stock and is finished with a chestnut stain. Jeff designed the holder to store up to 20 1/4″ hex-shanked bits.

I particularly like the nice beveled corners of the holder. The design is simple yet classy. Nice work Jeff!

Store-bought bit holders, such as those by Mechanics Time Savers, are readily available but are nowhere near as elegant as DIY bit holders such as this one.

The only issue with using Oak for this purpose is the need to make sure it is sealed well – otherwise the tanins in the oak will cause rust to form on the bits

  2. Nice work Jeff. I bet that thing comes in handy . It’s nice to have your bits readily available and on hand.

I’m thinking of buying a brake press to make socket trays, so my sockets are always easy to reach for. Thanks for the inspiration.
