These multi-pieced screwdrivers come in handy. Everyone should have a few lying around the house and in each automobile.
Although, I don’t recommend using the “tube” minus the handle as a door hinge punch! Do as I say, not as I do.

I can see how this can driver can have its advantages…. sometimes if your in a tight spot against a wall it could be easier to apply pressure and turn it toward you instead of away limiting the chance of stripping the screw or nut.

Most of the time, when I use a screwdriver, it’s already a two handed affair. Non-dominant hand to push on the butt of the screwdriver and dominant hand to turn the screwdriver. That’s the way my Dad taught me to use a screwdriver and has always seemed like the right way to do it. Under those circumstances, a ratcheting screwdriver offers no real benefit at all. I just let my dominant hand slip on the handle for the backwards motion and that’s effectively a ratchet. The only time I find a ratcheting screwdriver useful is when I’m up on a ladder and I’m working in some low torque situation where I’m using the screwdriver one-handed. With the ratcheting screwdriver I don’t have to let the driver go during the back motion so I can hold onto the ladder with my other hand. That, I find useful. This screwdriver from Lowes, while faster in theory, seems like it wouldn’t really improve things in any of the situations I can think of. And it seems pretty bulky to me. But I’d certainly be open to giving it a try.
Would be nice to try it for a weekender like me!
I was in Lowe’s last night for an unrelated reason, but couldn’t find this item. After seeing it here I thought I’d check it out. Perhaps they’re just slow in getting it to the stores.

While the screwdriver is a very good idea, especially for tight spaces I would be thrilled witht he giftcard so we could put it towards some home improvements.

Honestly, I know these aren’t pro tools, but after using one I got as a gift a few years back because it was all i could find, it earned a permanent spot in my tool bag. The only problem is that they tend to be cheap and don’t last. They are seriously handy things to have around though!

I absolutely love the idea of the internal gearing that provides twice the ratcheting speed! I am a homeowner and I am always busy with a project in the home or garage. I already have numerous Kobalt Hand tools and I am extremely happy and impressed with their design and the hassle free lifetime warranty! Next I plan to start buying the Kobalt line of power tools, as I am also impressed with their design, feel and the 5 year warranty! To provide a 5 year warranty with these tools, they have to be heavy duty and Lowes would not provide this kind of a warranty unless they were confident that these tools could take a beating and keep on ticking. Even Home Depot’s Ridgid line only has a 3 year warranty. In the past few years Lowes has quickly became my one stop shop for tools!! Thank you Lowes for providing superior quality tools. I look forward to adding the double drive screwdriver to my collection!!

I love the idea of this tool! I use ratcheting screw drivers all the time! I do frequent repairs on cars and also work as a Telecom tech. Nothing beats a good ratcheting screw driver when working with LONG thread screws. I really LIKE the idea of cutting my time in half by getting twice the number of shaft rotations.
I totally disagree with tube_guy (above post). Ratcheting screw drivers are ESSENTIAL. I RARELY use the 2-handed method he describes. I’m frequently using my second hand to hold another part [in place] or holding something to keep my balance. While the 2-handed method can mimic ‘ratcheting’, I only use it when driving something tough (thick wood screw) that requires heavy pressure (on top of handle) to keep the screw driver planted in the screw-head (I work with Philips frequently). The 2 handed method certainly doesn’t work well in tight spaces.

I am an industrial maintenance tech and carry a 6-in-1 screw driver all day. I think this tool would be very helpful. It would put less stress on my arm while making work quicker.
This tool would make it easier on my arthritis; we are remodeling a house and the less strain on my joints the better. A cordless or electric drill is heavy and hard to get into cabinets and places, this is going to be our next purchase as soon as they hit the stores. We will try to find three more to buy for our children’s families as gifts for Christmas.

I had heard nothing about the Kobalt double drive screwdriver and just happened to see a display of them in the entry aisle at Lowe’s. It’s a substantial feeling tool. Being a total idiot, I looked for the switch to turn it on; I thought it was a power driver. I felt even dumber when I saw a Lowe’s employee who had seen me looking for a way to turn it on…I think he laughed a little.

I had to go on line when I saw this on a TV ad. This may be the best tool I have seen in a very long time. When my Dad was alive this is the type of thing I looked for as a Christmas gift-he was a “fixer”. Now I buy things like this for my son in law-and for myself! So my plan is to get one for myself-make sure I like it as much as I think I will-then buy one for my son inlaw for Christmas!

Saw this on TV and thought immediately to get one for all the men in our life. That way when us girls (I have 3 daughters) has a loose screw (no pun intended!) or needs anything tightened one of them can do it for us and they’re going to LOVE this screwdriver, that is like no other…not that us girls are helpless, but it makes them feel important!

Just saw this for the first time at Lowes as I was browing around looking to see what’s new. Self avowed tool junkie, I pretty much already have all the tools I could use or need, so seeing a demo display for a mere manual screwdriver, I figured, eh.
Started looking at it, and played with it a bit, and noticed the stepless ratcheting mechanism, and thought that was pretty nice. I’ve seen this before though, with socket wrenches, but they appear to have fallen out of favor, possibly due to torque limits and reliability with high drive requirements.
This being a screwdriver, however, it would probably be well suited to the application.
The ability to reengage for the next rotation with the slightest movement backwards makes it able to drive with the most limited clearance; let’s say your hand has some limited angle of motion due to clearances. Handy-
But the kicker was as I continued to play with it and noting how smooth the action was, and grasped the blue collar. Then I noticed the double drive action, where the bit continued rotation in the same direction regardless of the handle direction. A clever differential mechanism, making for a high speed spinner that essentially doubles the speed normally possible from a regular ratcheting screwdriver, as the rearward rotation is translated into the same motion at the bit as the forward rotation.
Just having bought an Autoload screwdriver, I just had to buy this one at the $20 price. Includes a well made flex shaft extension as well, where the sheathing remains stationary as the bit holder turns. The tip is a solid section of about 2″, so the flex section is able to accommodate jobs that have at least 2″ clearance.
The double drive mechanism is primarily intended for high speed spinning in and out of screws and nuts at low torque values, as it’s more effort to develop the same drive torque in the reverse mode, needing to hold the blue collar at 1/2 the drive torque. That limits the amount of torque that can be developed in the reverse direction, as it just can’t be gripped as tightly as the regular handle.
I was able to fit the screwdriver bits (excluding the square drive, which I generally don’t use) all into the handle. The nutdriver bits take up more space, so I left them in the bit holder.
Very innovative design and well done.
I would love to gift one for my husband, because I sometimes see how he gets frustrated when he has a lot of screws to put in or take out of some projects or is fixing something. I heard him comment the other day when he saw a commercial that he would like one because it seems very handy and the kobalt brand tools are strong enough and reliable for home use and gets the job done. He has a few kobalt tools in his toolbox.

I’m on my way to Lowes, wanted some info on this before going, saw it on TV last night.
Was planning on buying one of these tomorrow and if it works out while I am building my house I will put one in all four of my chevy trucks. They will be handy working on fords you know! The house I am building is based on five 8″ #10 “I” beam bands over top connected with 12 ga. 4×8 “C” perlin’s and 2 x 2 x 1/4 inch angle iron braces in more places than the builders who have looked at it say are necessary. The 60′ x 60′ roof was installed before the walls and stood up to 80 MPH winds without the wall sheeting (one big wing). It is covered with tan sheet metal and later with rock. It may be over kill but the two most important people in the world live there, my wife and my son (and me but I don’t count). I never borrow tools, if it is needed you buy it and Kobalt have a good line. I hope the Double Drive lives up to it’s name because I do use not abuse my tools and it is just in for a time for wiring.

As soon as I saw TV advert, I knew my hubby was getting one! It has become a tradition for me to get him some sort of “cool tool” for a holiday…..or a J.B.I.L.Y. (just because I love you). Kobalt is quality! Oh the beautiful things he has built for us/me over time have richened our lives……the aquarium stand he most receintly built is so gorgeous! I love getting him tools….almost as much as he enjoys getting them…..he’s good about giving “hints and guidance” so I don’t get something uh…well…un-helpful.

My husband has seen the Kobalt Double Driver demonstrated on TV and has already thrown hints my way for Christmas. I can’t imagine anyone not wanting this time and effort saver around the house!
We lost so much during Hurricane Ike, but when my husband saw this, he realized once again how many tools he lost. It’s more noticable when he is in the garage working and reaches for something that he had for years and it is no longer there. When he saw the TV ad, you could see the look on his face as he thought wow, this would be great to have and I know how I would use it Yes, this is something I would love to give to him.
My Husband saw this and has hinted he would like to have it. He has all sorts of tools and usually doesn’t trust me to get the right one. I am looking forward to fooling him this year!
This would be great for assembling toys for our 2 month old twins when they get older!!
I may be a 57 yr old grandmother, but I do a lot of carpentry/repair type of work. I am my own handywoman with my own tool caddy. I’d love to have this to add…as I am older it would be a blessing!
Wow! This looks like a great tool, I’d love to get one for my husband (and me!). He does a lot of home projects that require assembly. Half as much screwdriving? Brilliant!

As good as it seems, the reliability in actual operation may be questionable.
When using it, the direction selector is loose and tends to change direction all by itself, especially when screwing up or down. You’d be working quickly screwing something in when it spontaneously reverses direction and before you know it, you’ve been screwing it back out again.
And it also locked up on one occasion, with no ratcheting at all; had to use it as a regular screwdriver. Inexplicably cleared up when some force was applied driving some other screws. Hopefully it’s just a defective sample, but it’s something to note if you get around to actually using it with torque instead of just twirling it freely.
Saw this on DYI and it looks like a must have tool. What a great idea for a Christmas gift for the home handyman. Now if I can only get someone to remember what I asked for!
Checked it out at Lowe’s this morning–very clever. It’ll definitely be great for those extra long screws when you don’t have a drill/driver with you.

Saw this on TV this morning…this looks like a perfect solution for those jobs around the house that we can do quickly and not have to go to the garage and grab the power drill! Fits in the drawer, so this could be super handy for us and our never-ending to-do list! I’m a Lefty, and have problems with working in tight places, and this tool with it’s double racheting mechanism will make taking out, or screwing in those stubborn long screws without having to reset the purchase of the screwdriver, or hoping the one direction rachet on the cheaper ones doesn’t give out. If you could help, so as to give you a chance to reward me for my ability to think up-side-down, and in-side out, as well as side-ways too, and all this, due to the superior mental capacity of my Left-Handed, Right Mindedness, I will hold off on buying one !

This tool looks amazing and would be a welcome piece of equipment for my tool box. Since my brain hemhorrhage a year and a half ago, I have trouble using a screwdriver without having to re-position my hand all the time. This device would take care of that, I do believe!

Just saw the Kobalt double drive ratchet on TV and I thought it was an amazing tool to have on hand. Toolguyd.com was the first website I found with reviews for the tool. Then I saw the giveaway being offered and knew I had to jump in.
I bought the Kobalt Multi-Drive Wrench last year and I think its an awesome tool and has helped out in many situations. So now I am excited to get and use the Double-Drive screwdriver and hopefully it will be as handy as the wrench.

I appreciate the review. As most guys do, I prefer a heavy duty tool that won’t get damaged shaking around with tools in the back of my truck or after repeated use. This Kobalt looks like it would be cool in a specialized kit or for around the house installing fixtures etc. I’d be stoked to try one.

As a leader of a 4-H robotics club, we’re always on the lookout for tools. I’ve been reading ToolGuyd for about a week trying to get a handle on the best and most affordable choices for our use. We have about 18 teenagers who will be be spending 6.5 weeks this winter designing, building and testing a competitive robot. Let me tell you that teens can test anything to its limits!

I saw this set on TV, looks awesome. Seems to cut time and work, two things I look for in any tool. I want one for my dad, after all he showed me how to use all hand tools you could probably imagine. Hello, well as it is officially Dec 1st, I would like to enter to win this. I was jus browsing this item and reading about it after seeing it advertised on tv last night. Iv been trying to figure out a Christmas gift for my mother, 39, from my son, 2 and a half. She cleans houses for a living, and is always using a screw driver for misc projects. She carries around one now with multiple bits, but, the issue is that she has very harsh symptoms of arthritis in both of her hands. She has had minor surgery, but they still bother her on a regular basis. I feel this nifty tool would be ideal for her so it would drastically cut back on some of the wear and tear per say on her wrists! If I don’t win this, I would still hope to find one to purchase. I have always been one for more personalized gift giving and making gifts, but when I saw this, I knew it would hit home way better then a picture or anything else would!! Hope I am chosen, my mother would honestly greatly appreciate it, I know that for sure! Thanks for reading!!!

I am getting ready to buy 2 of these bad boys right now. My hubby, a CWO5 in the Marine Corps for 28 years now…and still going lol!…saw the advertisement on TV and told me, “Babe, Christmas Gift…Right there! Dont care about getting much, but I want that!!!” LOL!! The look on his face was hilarious because I thought he was just being his usual sarcastic seld. But, NO! He was dead serious! Its one of those things you get for a guy who is hard to buy for or for the guy who has everything, like my grandfather who is a long since retired E-9 and has just about everything imaginable. But he has had rheumatoid arthritis since in his 20′s and has a really hard time fiddling with screwdrivers so naturally I thought this would be the perfect gift for him too!! As for my husband, I am buying him one, but knowing him, he will forget where he put it and will have to buy yet another one to replace the one he probably stuck in the fridge as he went to grab a cold one out of the fridge. Its happened several times. A man who has served in the most prestigous jobs, in my opinion and worked his booty off to get where he is by being so organized unfortunately did not carry this over to home life ; ) So I would love to win one to replace the one I am buying for when he loses it. Notice I say when, not if! We are currently in search of both sets of his Harley Davidson keys in hopes we will not have to relace those too, but it has already been a month, so it doesnt look good. He is getting a very nice top and bottom parts for a nice craftsmen standup tool box, so hopefully we wont lose as many tools any more, but you can hope in one hand and ….. in the other…well you get the picture LMBO! Just saw the Kobalt Double Drive Screwdriver on DIY. I would love to win one for my husband since he does alot of things around the house, he is a wonderful husband and father, we are so lucky to have him, this would be awesome for a christmas gift from his sons.

I seen the commercial and my fiance is in a wheelchair but continues to work on boat motors and remodeling the house. This tool would be a great addition to his tool box and would help out tremendously with getting the job done due to his arthritus. loved the commercial! gotta get one!

I have seen the ad for this new doubledrive tool and it looks like a fabulous tool that anyone can appreciate. I am a single female in my household and I like to try to tackle many household jobs around my house. I’m sure it would come in very handy for me. I would also like to get this for my sons. Kudos to you for always coming up with new innovative tools!
CAN’T WAIT TO TRY OUT THE NEW DRIVER
We actually purchased two(or so we thought) for Christmas.;>( They were bought via the internet and we were told they were ready for pickup. We drove 45 minutes to the Lowes store in Durham, NC to be told they did not have them. They also told us they would not be carrying them in any stores after Christmas because they are considered seasonal;>( It would be wonderful to be able to get one as it was very dissapointing to my hubby.
