Porter Cable ClampSaw – the Verdict is in

Porter Cable Cordless Clamp Saw Cutting Pipe

A few months ago, we reviewed Porter Cable’s 12V Max ClampSaw, their new super-compact cordless reciprocating saw. At the time, I was pretty impressed with the saw’s build quality and function. I recently returned the review sample to Porter Cable, but not before I had a chance to reevaluate it for a final verdict.

What I found is that the ClampSaw is indeed a top-quality tool. After our initial review, I heard from Porter Cable that the saw was designed and tested to withstand the rigors of jobsite conditions. Down to the very last wire, the ClampSaw is designed for professional users. That of course doesn’t mean that DIYers and homeowners wouldn’t benefit from using the tool, it just means that the tool is designed to be more durable and higher performing than such users require it to be.

I tried to jam the pivot, I tried to lose the attached hex-key adjustment wrench, I tried to make it stall. Without getting too creative, I was unable to find a weak spot. At the end of the day, the ClampSaw proved to be a nicely designed tool. Of course there will be applications that it can’t handle, but at that point almost nothing short of a full-size corded reciprocating saw will do.
