Really Neat DIY Cleanroom Box

There is a really neat (pun not intended) DIY cleanroom box project tutorial over at the I Heart Robotics blog that caught our attention. This step-by-step how-to is very detailed, and shows how to create a small cleanroom-type workspace from some cheap industrial shelving, MDF, a cooling fan, and a ShopVac-type filter.

I Heart Robotics used a 3D printer for their filter mounting bracket, but after looking it over a few times, it looks like it shouldn’t be too difficult for others to fabricate similar pieces from some scrap plastic, aluminum, or even wood, using conventional methods.

For reference, a cleanroom, or an ingenious miniature DIY shelving-based cleanroom, is invaluable when working on extremely delicate devices or electronics. Kudos to I Heart Radio for such a simple yet highly functional design.

One more thing – don’t forget to look over the tutorial’s comments section where there’s a rather helpful discussion going on.
