A few weeks ago, Skil announced a new line of 18V Li-Ion power tools targeting DIYers and professionals who need pro-grade features at consumer-level prices. These tools are not mere adaptations of last generation’s NiCad-powered tools; Skil designed these tools to be more powerful, longer lasting, lighter, more compact, and comfortable to use.
As of now, there are four new tools and four packages available: 1) a powerful 2-speed 1/2″ drill/driver kit with a recommended retail price of $109, or $149 with two batteries; 2) a 2-piece drill/driver and 5 3/8 Skilsaw combo kit with a recommended price of $199; 3) a 4-piece combo kit including drill/driver, Skilsaw, reciprocating saw, and pivoting head flashlight with a recommended price of $259; and 4) a battery upgrade kit for $69, or $99 for a battery and charger.
We have started to these in stores (most notably Lowes), but several online retailers are carrying the tools as well.
