Snap-on Custom Tool Storage Skins

Via their Facebook page, Snap-on recently discussed how one could skin and customize their Snap-on tool storage. While we understand and can appreciate the desire to customize and personalize a tool box, designs like this seem to be a bit too ostentatious.

Snap-on goes on to say that these skins will allow younger service techs to “stand out” and be “the envy of everyone in the shop.” They also then say that a custom skin would allow techs to make a visual statement about who they are with a tool box that “reflects their own individual personality.

The Snap-on skins program features a variety of skin designs, from graffiti-style art to race car motifs.

Yes, the skins look awesome. Yes, they would sure as hell make any tech’s box stand out. But do they really reflect one’s invidual personality?

A tool box isn’t supposed to be a status symbol, it’s a piece of equipment. Sure, it’s okay if a tool box is pleasant to look out, but the effect and added cost of skins like these seem a bit unnecessary to us. What do you think?

I would have to see more options, but based on those 2, I will pass.

You could stand out with a lime green or bright yellow box as well, and it wouldn’t look so obnoxious

They seem a bit “over the top” and it looks like a ridiculous way to try to be the envy of the shop. In case you haven’t guessed…..I don’t like them.

I think its great, I disassembled, sandblasted, and airbrushed a box while my tools sat in milk crates for 2 weeks. custom boxes are cool, but maybe not for every tech or every workplace. I’m in a fab shop, but that might not fly at the dealership

If given the option, would you still have went through the process of customizing your toolbox yourself, or would you have opted for a skin?
