Which is Thinner, Craftsman’s Premium Ratchet or Thin-Profile Ratchet?

Craftsman’s new 84-tooth premium ratchets, which we reviewed a few months ago, are indeed very nice ratchets. But so are Craftsman’s thin-profile ratchets. What most people don’t realize is that the premium ratchet heads are as thin as on Craftsman’s thin-profile ratchets. The following photo shows a 3/8″ ratchet of each style: premium version on the left and thin-profile on the right.

Craftsman Premium vs Thin-Profile Ratchet Height ComparisonThe direction selector switch on the premium ratchet raises it slightly, and the thin-profile ratchet is also raised slightly, but to a lesser degree, by its selector switch and quick-release button. In the end, the premium ratchet head is marginally slimmer than the thin-profile one. Physical measurements are extremely close as well, but the photo does a better job of showing the size difference (or relative lack thereof).
