Williams Hard Handled Screwdrivers, a New Favorite

Williams Hard Handled Screwdriver Set

When we suggested Williams’ hard-handled screwdrivers as part of our Father’s Day gift guide, I ordered a 5pc set for personal use. In the three months since then, these drivers have easily become my go-to drivers.

While not my absolute favorite drivers (a title reserved for my PB Swiss screwdrivers), these drivers come close. They’re very comfortable to use and can exert a fair amount of torque. To top it off, they’re pretty affordable too. What more could I ask for!?

Word to the wise, take the do-not-use-as-prybar notice seriously. The shaft on these doesn’t extend very far into the handle and the handle will fail quickly if you use these even a bit inappropriately, like in freeing a stuck rotor when one of these happens to be in your hand. That’s why I keep a couple of Stanley’s cheap, bulletproof FatMax demo screwdrivers, for that work where the right tool just won’t do. And plenty of deadblow/soft face hammers.

Dan, that’s a good point to keep in consideration. And as for the FatMax demolition drivers, I love ‘em! I have one pair that I use occasionally with a second pair still in packaging. I bought both pairs back when they were still made in England.

I wish mine were made in England, but I take no issue with Stanley’s quality in their China products. They’ve maintained the line well despite the change of venue and their pricepoint is competitive with other popular handyman tools that haven’t kept the quality up. Plus they were really good to me at that DeWalt event two weeks ago. Do I buy a lot of Stanley’s wares? No, but those I have and the samples that I’ve seen are still good, quality tools. Would I trade my old USA Mac tools for new China Mac? Probably not, but that doesn’t keep me off the Mac truck. They’re certainly on a better QC track than Craftsman is right now with their imports.
