With Father’s Day on approach, everyone is asking themselves and others “what to buy?” Well, how about something useful. These five items are less than $10 each and are affordable enough to throw in with larger gifts.

Paired with a spare 10-12oz mug, the Mug Boss provides for nifty desktop organization of tools, pens, and doodads of all kinds. The Mug Boss’s pockets are well sized for craft tools as wells.

Victorinox Classic Swiss Army Knife

Not surprisingly, Victorinox’s mini pocket knife is a hit with both men and women. This is one of those classic gifts that everyone appreciates.

Pocket Ref (Alternate link with reviews)

Which material is harder, quartz or pyrite? Which decibel sound level is considering deafening? What is the clamping force of a grade 8 1/4″ bolt? What does a half-hitch knot look like again? The density of titanium? The pH of ammonia? The difference between silicon carbide and aluminum oxide abrasives?

This book is packed with 768 pages of useful information, diagrams, standards, and conversion tables.

Klein 5-in-1 Screwdriver

Not the best multi-bit screwdriver out there, but it’s cheap, made in the USA, and great for home, auto, office, or shop use.

Maglite AAA Mini Flashlight

Again, not our favorite flashlight (that title goes to the Streamlight Stylus Pro) but the AAA mini maglite is a nice petite flashlight for light usage. These are great for stashing in a bag, purse, or glove compartment, but are not robust or bright enough for serious or emergency use.

Isn’t amazing how hard it is to find a decent non-corrosive simple screw driver set that you can keep in the trunk of your car. It used to be so easy to find a nice little set…

Sad to say, I know what you mean – I’ve had more than one driver rust over a bit while neglected in the trunk for a few weeks or longer. However, the functionality of surface-rusted drivers shouldn’t be degraded by too much.

To avoid corrosion, there are plenty of air-tight or near air-tight solutions that you could use, my favorite of which are small Pelican or Otterbox containers.
