New Final Cut Side-Sanding Circular Saw Blade

Final Cut has just announced the addition of a new 7-1/4″ circular saw blade to their product lineup. Also available in 10″ and 12″ sizes, the Final Cut saw blade features sanding discs on each side of the blade, allowing it to both cut and sand workpieces at the same time.

In addition to providing smoother and finer finished cuts, Final Cut’s saw blades are said to reduce kickback and eliminate binding and heat buildup, leading to a longer blade life.

Replacement sanding discs are available, and although they are intended to be used with Final Cut’s specially designed blades, there are guidelines and instructions on Final Cut’s website for attaching the discs to other brands’ blades (at least with respect to the 10″ and 12″ blades).

These 7-1/4″ saw blades are available for purchase via Final Cut’s website, and are priced at $19.95 each. Replacement discs are priced $12 for two, or $23 for four.

I use the Diablo blades on my circular saw. I don’t know how well these stick to that coating, but do know the owner of the tracksaw company I bought/used, has tried some of these, and not been impressed.

Another gimmicky idea. If you use a proper, good quality blade your cuts should be almost perfect.

Aside from questions about the longevity of the sanding surface, and wondering if one, or both sided might come loose at an inopportune time,I would think that this blade would have a much wider kerf than a typical blade. Probably not a problem when using a hand circ saw, but it might make a difference to someone doing close tolerance cuts for something like cabinet/ furniture building.

I wonder if I could just make my own by gluing sandpaper to the side of my blade?
