Before we talk about Rockwell’s new saw, we’d like to thank our friends at Tools in Action for being kind enough to let us post photos from their 2011 National Hardware Show Wrap-up.

Update: The Trans4mer is now available for purchase via Amazon.

So what we have here is the new Rockwell Trans4mer / Transformer jigsaw, model RK2516. The saw is built with a pivoting head so that it can switch from a jigsaw to a reciprocating-style saw.

The saw has a no-load speed of 0-2400 spm and a stroke length of 5/8″. Its cutting capacity is 2″ for wood, 5/32″ for steel, and 1-3/4″ for plastic PVC pipe.

These specs are actually a bit surprising since the Transformer’s cutting capacities are 25%-40% greater than those given for Rockwell’s BladeRunner benchtop saw. Obviously there are going to be differences between battery-powered and corded tools, but it is usually the corded ones that features larger cut capacities. Not that I’m complaining – it’s great to see decent specs in such a compact tool.

The saw also features a tool-less blade change, 6 pivoting head cutting positions, an LED work light, and a dust blower to keep the cut line clear.

Rockwell’s 12V LithiumTech lineup already features several drills and drivers, as well as their cordless SoniCrafter and innovative H3 rotary hammer drill.

Pricing information and availability estimates are not yet available.

Once again, thank you to Tools in Action for their sneak peek and for permission to use their photos!

It’s backordered via Amazon at the moment with a 3-5 week ETA, but other retails may have it in stock.
