Elzetta Tactical LED Flashlights – How Tough are They?

Elzetta LED Flashlight ZFL-M60

After posting about the Surefire P60 LED flashlight deal, I received an email from Elzetta that brought my attention to their ZFL-M60 flashlights. I went to their website, and scanned over their product pages.

A few keywords jumped off the page. Tactical LED flashlight. Okay, that sounds good, but seems common these days. 235 lumen output. Now I’m listening! Made in USA. Okay, I am very interested now. Malkoff LED modules. At this point I sat up in my chair, eyes widened. Thinking back, I remember seeing Elzetta mentioned before, always in a very positive way, and I’ve never heard anything bad about Malkoff’s drop-in modules and LED assemblies.

But then I see the wording tougher than nails, followed by the following video.

The Elzetta rep is using his flashlight to pound nails into a 2×4. To be honest, that does not really mean anything to me. The nail is hard and rigid, and the wood is soft. I could use any number of things on my desk tight now to drive the same nails into the wood, and that doesn’t mean that they objects are as tough as nails. But what does impress me is that the light remains lit the entire time – now that’s impressive and definitely says something about the flashlight’s build quality.

Many flashlights, mostly inexpensive ones but a few higher-end ones as well, don’t handle shock very well. Drop the flashlight or subject it to a hard shock, and it’ll flicker or even go out. I’ve permanently damaged a few flashlights after a drop or two in this manner.

While I’m not interpreting the tougher than nails demo video as Elzetta may have intended, I think that the same message comes through – these flashlights are crazy tough and reliable.
