Amazon Black Friday 2017 Dewalt Cordless Power Tool Combo Kit Deal?

Dewalt DCK620D2 with Angle Grinder Kit

Home Depot’s 7-tool Dewalt brushless cordless combo kit deal is really, REALLY good – the best cordless power tool deal I remember seeing. It’s back on sale, after a brief interruption that has since been fixed. (This is mention of a different deal, not the one pictured here.)

Amazon typically has some good Dewalt cordless combo kit deals on sale for Black Friday, Cyber Monday, or simply as a deal of the day during the holiday season.

While searching for something else on Amazon, I came across what I believe to be an upcoming deal, on another Dewalt 20V Max 7-tool cordless power tool combo kit, shown above.

This kit is based on the DCK620D2 6-tool combo kit, currently priced at $399 and eligible for $25 off $100+ discount, and throws in a brushless angle grinder.

This custom combo just appeared on Amazon, with a November 15th, 2017 “first available” date. Its price is currently $518.99, and it’s listed as “temporarily out of stock.”

In the meantime, check out these other deal roundups:

Let’s take a look at what you get with the DCK620D2 and bonus grinder kit. I should also point out that this kit, DCK620D2, also looks to be new, despite its “first available” date that goes back to December 2016. There are no reviews, and it is also “temporarily out of stock.” It’s said to have a list price of $599, and sale price of $399.

  • DCD780 drill/driver
  • DCF885 impact driver
  • DCS381 reciprocating saw
  • DCS393 circular saw
  • DCL040 LED worklight
  • DCR006 jobsite Bluetooth speaker
  • (2) 2.0Ah compact Li-ion battery packs
  • carrying case
  • charger
  • DCG413 brushless angle grinder (in the bonus kit)

The drill and impact driver are first-generation tools, but continue to be solid offerings. The LED worklight is a standard inclusion, and the Bluetooth speaker seems to be a common holiday season bonus tool item. The circular saw and reciprocating saws are both of the more basic “combo kit” variety, lacking some of the more premium features of the standalone kit, premium kit, or bare tool versions.

The battery packs are 2.0Ah, which is better than 1.5Ah or worse, 1.3Ah, but they’re still compact battery packs. Usually, heavier duty tools such as circular saws and reciprocating saws benefit from higher capacity battery packs, and not just in regard to longer runtime. Larger packs, with 10 battery cells instead of 5, run cooler, contributing to longer runtime and less risk of over-temperature shutdowns.

At $399, or $374 after instant $25 of $100+ discount, the 6-tool combo is a good deal. It’s more of an entry-level kit, but a good deal nonetheless. I wish that Dewalt equipped the kit with 1 compact batter and 1 higher capacity battery pack – that would have made it even better.

So how much will the special 7-tool combo kit sell for? Certainly not $519. Maybe it’ll be brought down to the $399 price of the 6-tool kit. “Buy the 6-tool combo kit at $399 and get the brushless angle grinder for free.” That’s about as good of a deal as I can imagine.

They could price the deal at say $449, but “buy this 7-tool kit for the price of the 6-tool kit” is more psychologically convincing, and increases the “wow” factor of the deal. They’d sell a lot more.

Would you buy the 7-tool kit at a more-than-$399 price if you didn’t quite need an angle grinder? No, probably not. But if you’re on the fence about that 6-tool kit, and that 7-tool combo is dangled in front of you at the same $399 (or thereabouts) price, of course you’re going to spend the same (or around the same) to get one more tool, even if it’s a tool you might not feel strongly about buying.

Amazon has lowered the prices of special combos before, to less than what the “base” price was. And so, we *could* see a price as low as say $379, or something around there. But it’s far more likely that they’ll stick to the $399 price. The 6-tool set is eligible for the holiday season $25 off $100+ Dewalt discount, but this 7-tool combo is not.

I know they have marketing research on this, I wish they would do ” non frequently used tool” combo kits. Such as hedge clipper, string trimmer, blower, chainsaw, combo kits. Or finish nailor, planer, multi tool, vacuum, mitre saw combo kits.

Thanks for staying on top of all the deals!

Yes, but that’s what they want you to buy as an expansion tool. =)

I’m also guessing that certain tools are also easier to produce and accumulate huge volumes of.

The $25 off $100+ promo should work on a lot of bare tools, though, so you’re still getting a discount.

Remember, these deals come from arrangements between tool brands and retailers.

You might see some bare tool deals, or lawn and garden deals as “deals of the day.” That drums up interest and I’m guessing results in higher sales.

And as mentioned elsewhere, some of these deals are done for comparison. Offer as many “core” tools for as low a price to introduce users to your system. Later, they buy what they need as they need it, not necessarily because they’re shopping on price.

It would be too difficult to satisfy us tool junkies, since we generally already have an assortment of oddball tools. They’d have to make it something like “pick 5 of the following for $500”, but since so many of the oddball tools are more expensive that would be difficult too.

They kind of had a deal like that last year. “Buy a battery and charger starter kit, pick 2 bare tools for free.”

        It returned in April.

Dewalt has an All brushless 7 tool deal ..$599…using its top of the line brushless tools, if I was buying into Dewalt and I had 399 on my mind ,I’d pony up the other 200 and get some of the best brushless tools around.

I was going to tease you for missing the mention and link to that deal in the first paragraph, but after a re-read it looks like I wasn’t clear enough, so thank you!
