Black Friday and Cyber Monday are over, but Amazon still has plenty of tool deals and discounts up their sleeve. They dropped the price of this Craftsman 262pc mechanics tool set from its $149 deal price to around $131.
Craftsman isn’t the brand it once was, but they still make decent entry-level mechanics tools at fair pricing.
This tool set comes with:
- (3) 72T low-profile ratchets
- (55) standard sockets
- (37) deep sockets
- (24) combination wrenches
- (28) long hex keys
- (16) short hex kes
- (24) bit sockets
- (4) extensions
- (2) adapters
- (2) spark plug sockets
- (1) screwdriver bit driver
- (66) screwdriver bits
The tools come with a 3-drawer modular tool box.
Deal Price: ~$131
Amazon says that you save 47% off the $249 list price. That’s… you know how it goes. This set is typically a seasonal promo at $149, and so I’d say the deal saves you an extra $18 compared to if you bought it last week.
It’s impossible to predict if Amazon will seek to clear out the Craftsman tool at a lower price, or if the price will bounce back to $149. Lowe’s has it for $149, which they say ends 12/3/25.

Are there any better mechanics sets available right now? Been looking for a good deal on one.

It really depends on your needs. There are plenty of consumer mechanics tool sets at $99 for the holidays – Husky at Home Depot, Kobalt at Lowe’s, and Craftsman at Amazon and Lowe’s. I think this kit offers enough more than those sets to pay attention to.

If you have a bigger budget, I really like Milwaukee socket sets, but you have to buy some other tools separately – hex keys, wrenches, screwdriver bits. If you need those, one of the consumer sets might be a good starting point. If you don’t or plan to buy separately, there’s Milwaukee, Tekton, and a bunch of other brands that are a higher tier than Craftsman.

I mostly use my tools on my cars (all metric for now). Been getting by with an older USA 3/8 ratchet set from craftsman and random combo wrenches/extensions/spark plug sockets. These big sets can be tough to tell what is a good value vs filler items. Anything I should look for in particular to determine good value in a set?
Stuart
It’s hard to say, but it’s good to look at the tool and socket count, separate from the hex key and screwdriver bit fillers.
What’s your budget? If you want Metric exclusively, that changes the options a bit.
For someone that only wants metric and no fillers, there are sets like this one: https://www.amazon.com/TEKTON-6-Point-Ratchet-43-Piece-SKT15201/dp/B07TGPPP3C/?tag=toolguyd-20 . You can expand later to other size sets, such as 1/4″ or 1/2″
1/4″ set: https://www.amazon.com/TEKTON-6-Point-Ratchet-34-Piece-SKT05202/dp/B0CDNHT944/?tag=toolguyd-20
1/2″ set: https://www.amazon.com/TEKTON-6-Point-Ratchet-52-Piece-SKT25201/dp/B07TCJKD9R/?tag=toolguyd-20
What’s good (and bad) about the consumer starter sets is that there’s less overlap in socket sizes, but that’s because they’re designed around lower price points. They might give you 1/4″, 3/8″, and 1/2″ ratchets and accessories, but only a few 1/2″ sockets. When you buy separate sets, you get more complete sizes.

This is an extremely good set and is very well thought out. I keep it for my car and use it rather often.
