Yost FSV-4 Bench Vise

Over at Amazon, there is a “Yost Vises Non-Marquee Week 2018 Deal,” whatever that means.

What’s on Sale?: A selection of Yost vises and clamps. There are multiple product categories on sale, and for many of the vise classes, several sizes are on sale.

Where?: Amazon.

Quick Comment: I reviewed a compact Yost vise a few years ago, and really liked it. I have not looked at any of the other vises yet.

The deal includes general purpose vises, specialty vises, “industrial” vises, and “heavy-duty” vises. As far as I am aware, none of the on-sale offerings are made in the USA. The deals look decent for what you get, and Yost quality still seems to be well-regarded, USA-made or imported.

When Does it End?: Amazon says this is a “non-marquee week 2018 deal,” but no expiration is specified.

I have had the 5″ Forged Yost on my workbench for the past two years. It operates smoothly and seems just as sturdy as the Wilton I use at work. No complaints.

In fact of the top 5 highest average rated reviews for bench vises- 4 of the 5 are Yost brand.
In case anyone doesn’t know of fakespot.com it helps to spot the fake reviews.

Solid Yost vise if made in America…the made in America vises are much more HD and cost more for a reason….same as Wilton( which is the best)

Oh man the FSV-5 is cheaper than the FSV-4. Would get one if I didn’t already have the 4.

Forged steel vises are nice.. I have a Ridgid made in Germany in my Woodshop and I tend to use it more than my Wilton Mechanics vise in the Garage.

Thom, totally agree with you. Compare this Yost with your vise.

Very hard to get excited about the Yost, as it looks exactly like my Ridgid F-60 6″ vise (from Peddinghaus), sans RIDGID-stamp on the side. Same shape, same rubber handle-grommets.

The Ridgid is my favorite vise (for big stuff, although my Panavise is pretty neat when the soldering gun comes out).

I have the FSV-4 and have loved it. Thought I would go for tve FSV-6 but they were out of stock at that price.
Decided to go ahead with the FSV-7 and placed the order. But when the order confirmation came it said ot was not a forged vice by a cast vise. I read where this new cast vise was replacing the forged vises. I also read where some people, and Yost said the new ones were better.
In the end I cancelled my order. I dont know if the new ones are better or not but I am not going to reward bait and switch tactics.
