Here’s a look at Amazon’s Black Friday and Holiday 2015 tool brand deals, which are all in full swing right now.
Most of the deals kicked off at the beginning of November, with the rest going live mid-month.

If I’ve learned anything from past years’ promos, it’s that the popular tools often sell out quickly. If a tool is not in stock, but still orderable direct from Amazon, placing an order will get you a place in line for when it is available.
We’ve posted about the more notable deals separately, but here’s a quick list:
Bosch: $25 off $100+ Select Tools, thru 12/21/15
Dewalt: $25 off $100+ Select Tools, thru 12/22/15

These aren’t any real “deals” on specific tools, just a set amount or percent discount sale. Not bad if you’re buying something anyway, but not exactly a deal if the price plus the discount only gets you in the ballpark of what the regular or sale prices are elsewhere.
When these discounts stack with lowest-ever-pricing, then you’re talking.
It’s annoying that “Black Friday” has become such an overused marketing term that it’s being thrown around for sales in July, September, October, and month-long November prices, most of which aren’t any better than when they weren’t calling them “Black Friday” anything.
I like low prices with extra discounts, I just find it annoying when retailers, both online and physical stores, offer products with the same sales and discounts they always do, and stick a “Black Friday” marketing label on it, as if that will cause a mass frenzy of buyers. I guess it works to a point, but it’s a little harder to pull that stuff when you can check the pricing history online and see what the prices have been for the past few months and years.

Some of these deals are a little lame. I mean 15% off “select Keter products” when there are only 2 eligible products? But the other deals seem to be reasonably legit.
If there’s a tool I want but don’t need, I wait until Father’s Day or Christmas shopping seasons. While some tools are on sale other times of year, you cannot really beat some of these discounts and deals.
I have also scored some very good deals in past years’ November and December shopping seasons, and not just talking about tools. I typically do my due diligence to see if a deal is good or not.
A lot of the deals I see, and post about, aren’t simply regularly priced items with fancy marketing “promo” labels stuck on. That Dewalt Built in USA power tool promo? Yes, that’s pretty much complete BS since the prices are not even a penny lower than usual. But that’s really the exception, not the norm when it comes to holiday and Black Friday promos.

Sad to say, I make most of my large tool purchases during the rest of the year, and am generally able to get lower prices than “Black Friday” deals or any holiday prices in November or December.
I’m in if I can get something at a crazy low price, though.
Seems to me, if anything, that the BF prices keep going UP each year though.
I got a 10″ Skil miter saw at Lowe’s a few years ago when it was $59 for BF, plus I used a $10 off $50 coupon. Great deal, great saw, for the price.
The year after that they jacked the BF price to $69, then the next year it was a 10″ Kobalt saw for $89.

Or when they use the Black Friday term to describe promotional tools at ‘75% off’ when that tool was never available at their listed full price or any price at all. Nor will it be, once it is sold out it is gone for good. It seems to happen more every year.

Toolfreak, that was a terrific post! Very well done and I agree with you. I once heard a conversation where TSA and the “sales” that occur on Black Friday are likened. There is illusion of safety with TSA and this grandiose illusion of massive discounts on Black Friday.
Won’t take that much effort to find there is some truth in both sentiments, but I will say this specifically about Black Friday sales on Amazon. Chances are the discounts aren’t going that great as this wouldn’t be the first time a sale driven event was over hyped.

Just looking through the deals, they’ve got 30% off the bosch 10-piece jig saw blades at $10; $7 for 10 blades seems decent. Nothing else really stands out.

I was really disappointed by the Akro-Mills “sale.” I love Akro Mills stuff, but only having 14 items is really pathetic. Also, they only stock, what… < 1% of Akro Mills lineup? Give me a nice discount and prime shipping and I'll be much poorer man, stocking up on Akro Mills stuff (I already bought all the tools I need for awhile in past sales, so now I need to organize all the stuff I bought).
I get more and more disappointed by Amazon every day. Their NYT article about how they treat their workers is terrible (even if you don't feel sorry for well paid engineers, remember that treating folks like crap in a hot market scares away talent that can make their products better). Their products are mostly crap these days, like their phone and Echo. They used to give great deals on tools, but not any more (Home Depot online is usually cheaper). I used to strongly recommend them and now they're just "meh." They cost more or are not much cheaper than their competitors. Their store and search technology is the worst I've seen (lots of fraud from 3rd party sellers)
Amazon has definitely peaked and we are seeing the early days of their decline. I wonder how long it will be before they become the Yahoo of e-commerce and focus all their attention on Amazon Web Services.
Oh well, I bought most of my power tools from them in better days, so I guess I should be thankful how much money I saved 5 years ago and such.

On the Makita site, they’re advertising “2015 Combo Kit Madness” with a free tool for purchasing one of their combo kits listed (http://makitatools.com/combokitmadness). One of the free tools is the XSH01Z 36v (takes two 18v batteries) 7 1/4″ circular saw which had me interested.
Unfortunately, the ad lists “Only available at Participating Dealers”. Searching for that has turned up a great big none so far. Anyone know of one?

Ace Tool has the largest variety of offerings, followed by Dynamite Tools. Wholesale Power Tools has a limited related version of the special offer and these three companies are the only ones that I had checked on that actually had a way to add the free tool to your order this past weekend. Tool barn has the special offer listed, but I was unable to easily find a way to add the free tool to the order. I believe that Acme Tools also has a very limited version of the special offer, but also has a problem with being able to add the free tool to the order as well. Out of these online retailers that have the offer available, I have only ordered from Wholesale Power Tools, and while I had no problems with them, they were a bit slow to ship the product.
I recommend the 252 series combo kits as the 3 speed impact driver is so much better than the single speed impact in the 257 kit.
The best deal, IMO, is the 252m kit with the 4ah batteries at $399, coupled with the free SDS x2 drill which has a street value of $359.

Home depot’s “deals” are pretty bad this year, most of them are just regular sale prices, with some things (rigid tool box system, which is a great system) at list price, no deal whatsoever, just a placement with the “deals”
The porter cable combo kit, pancake plus 3 guns is ok, and I bought it, but the guns have been noticeably and negatively value engineered – no belt clips now…
All in, better buying after christmas, when they actually clear the stuff out.

Not sure how long it will last but Makita power tool prices just went south in a hurry. $99 12v combo kit, http://www.amazon.com/dp/B01489O21G/
Here are the rest, http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/s/ref=is_s_ss_i_1_12?ie=UTF8&n=760330&k=makita+combo+kit&sprefix=Makita+combo
Like I said, not sure if they will stay. It’s Dec 2 today.
