In case you don’t recognize it, shown here is Amazon’s listing of the Dewalt DCD771C2 cordless drill kit.
Historically speaking, it’s been seasonally priced at $99, but you can regularly find pro brand brushless drill kits for the same deal price, delivering higher performance, smaller size, lower weight, and more premium Li-ion batteries.
Amazon started off their Big Prime Deal Days sales event by discounting this Dewalt cordless drill kit down to $81.72, which was a new low – at least in my experience.

I’ve been tracking the price of this Dewalt drill deal since it launched in 2013.
Okay, so Amazon’s price was $81.72. I checked Home Depot, and they still had it for $129.
Later in the day, Home Depot decided to add this Dewalt drill kit to their deals of the day, and they matched Amazon’s price of $81.72.
That’s not exactly unprecedented, for Amazon and Home Depot to match each other’s prices.
Well, I checked Amazon just now, and they decided to have a limited time and quantity “lightning deal,” where they slashed the price further, down to $77.63. Home Depot still has it at $81.72.
Home Depot also dialed up the savings on a bunch of their Milwaukee tool deals of the day today, sometime after I posted about them. It’s not clear if that were prompted by competition, or maybe the call came from Milwaukee.

THIS is what Prime Day deals should be about – tool brands and retailers competing with each other and throwing profits to the wind to earn customers’ business and purchases. I love it, and hope to see more price drops and discounts.

Home Depot no longer in price war

No, their deals of the day ended. But if they did it once, hopefully that’s a sign of what holiday season competition will look like.
