Amazon Prime Day is here, their 2-day “Black Friday in July” sales event for Prime subscribers (or trial members).
There are some decent deals, and on tools we’d actually buy or have bought in the past. I’ll list the more notable ones here.

See Them All: Prime Day 2019 Tool Deals
There are also some limited time and quantity deals, and on tools that are rarely discounted, such as a Wiha 50pc Master Technicians benchtop precision screwdriver set, and so it might be worth checking back throughout the day.

Some deals are NOT good deals. For example, there’s a Makita 18V brushless cordless drill kit, XFD061. Amazon’s deal is for $44 off the current price of $158.68. This drill kit, which Ben reviewed here previously, has sold for $99 in the past. Right now, you can buy the XFD131 18V brushless drill kit for $99. It’s not exactly the same though, the XFD131 is faster but rated at lower torque. Maybe the XFD061 kit pricing will be adjusted. Amazon has a lot of deals going on these two days, and it’s possible some price changes weren’t programmed in properly.
But, many of the tool deals ARE very good bargains, depending on what you’re looking for.

Thanks!

Thanks. There are a couple things from WERA that I would have missed. Now hoping for some individual deals on Bosch 12v to show up.
Stuart
Don’t forget, there’s also tomorrow.
I got an email saying that the Bosch PS31 was a top seller in Amazon UK last year. I also remember the Flexiclick being a popular deal here last year. I’m optimistic there will be a good Bosch deal this year, but there are no guarantees.
schill
I’ll be looking.
I just picked up the Flexiclick for a good price a few weeks ago. I had an immediate need to drill near a wall so it was easy to justify without waiting for an even better price. And it’s been used a lot since then.

The Dewalt DCL043 spotlight comes out to $49 when you get to the checkout page. I don’t remember seeing it that cheap ever. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00SKOCRCW/

They got me! I’ve been waffling on the spotlight for months and this is definitely the best price I have seen.

What do you think about the router deals? I’m a Prime member. I currently only have a Rigid trim router. The Bosch 1617 appears lower than it has been before. Also, the DW616 & DW618pkb look fairly good. I was planning on picking up a Bosch router table (probably RA1181). I can’t find the RA1141 table that you reviewed last month. Thanks.
Stuart
I ordered my Bosch 1617 kit last November when there was a $50 off $200+ promo and it was down to $189. ~$219 and eligible for $50 off $200+ is a good deal. There are better deals, but it’s hard to know when it might come around again. It’s possible that the price will drop to $189 again, but I don’t remember the last time it was $189 and eligible for added discounts. It’s a hard judgement call. I haven’t been tracking the pricing of the single base kit.
I last heard that the RA1141 will launch in August. The RA1171 is currently low-priced, and I’m told there should be discounts on the RA1181, but I’m not seeing them live yet. With the RA1181 at full price right now, and it’s not eligible for the $50 off $200+ discount, I don’t think there’s any harm in waiting to see if it does get discounted.
Stuart
Deals on the Bosch RA1181 router table and a bit set just went live.

Both are “lightning deals” with an end time of ~1:40am ET 7/16 unless supplies sell out sooner.

Do you have a preference on the “Cabinet style” vs “Benchtop” router table? The tabletops are slightly different sizes with cabinet version smaller, but not significantly. Is it the quality of the tabletop that makes the bench version more expensive (usually)?
Stuart
Regarding Bosch’s portable router tables, I was personally always more interested in the cabinet-style, because I read about some issues with the other style.
The cabinet-style is less portable, and also heavier, but in theory I like that the motor is contained. I have an open-style router table now, and I plan to enclose it in coming months.
Honestly, I could never figure out which is *better*. I had purchased a 4-leg open frame Ryobi router table for $99, and years later (somewhat recently) I went with a full-sized Woodpeckers setup.
The metal framing of the RA1181 might make it more resilient, and could contribute to the cost. While I’m not a fan of MDF, MDF and laminate materials are good materials for something like a router table.
Benchtop router tables are often compromises. Choosing between these two requires looking closely at the features you want or don’t want.
Years ago, I flip-flopped between adding the Bench Dog cabinet-style router table to my wishlist, or Kreg’s open-frame style. The comparison is somewhat similar to that between Bosch’s two current models. The Kreg was more portable, but I had the (pre-purchase) impression that the Bench Dog would have provided a better user experience. The Kreg didn’t ideally suit my needs, and I decided to save the money and put it towards a full-size setup. My only issue with the idea of the Bench Dog router table, but it was higher-priced and lacked some accessories I didn’t want to have to buy separately.
Here’s an older post with some discussion about the options, and also some holiday season 2017 pricing details: https://toolguyd.com/bosch-router-table-on-sale-h2017/ . At the time, the sale price on the Bosch RA1181 was $159 at Amazon and $142 at Acme, and the RA1171 was $139 at Amazon and $124 at Acme Tools.
While both were on my wishlists years ago, purchasing opportunities came up, and I kept passing.
I wish I could give you a more decisive answer, but I hope this helps nonetheless!
Joseph
That was an extremely helpful reply, thank you so much! I am going to pass on these router tables mostly because like you and a few others said on the linked post, flatness or lack thereof seems to be a consistent complaint. I would expect a perfect product for $150+ and these seem to have some flaws. I will likely end up getting a cheap used open style table to start with and determine if I need to upgrade from there after a few uses.
Tom
Just bought both the 1617 kit & RA1181 router table. I’m excited.
Stuart
Nice, I hope you get good use out of them!
John
Crescent page link doesn’t work.
Stuart
Thanks, fixed it!

Apple IPad 6th generation with wifi and 128GB is the deal of the day for prime members. It ended up being $290 with a $30 Prime Day and $10 Whole Foods coupon added automatically. If you pay using the Amazon Prime Visa it’s another 6% cash back, so $272. A deal I couldn’t pass by since my iPad is 2nd generation. Not sure where the Whole Foods coupon came from, but since Whole Foods has wifi in their cafe, I’ll probably use it there ? .

If you look at the reviews on wirecutter, this is a great deal
ok, double posted this, but just noticed the update

If you get an iPad and want a stylus, this one had decent reviews and is under $10. Not ready to spring for apple stylus. I’ll see how this one works and how much I use it.

oops, not good reviews on the stylus. I was basing it on Wirecutter and they’re usually good.

Nothing Milwaukee on sale…guess the best doesn’t need to go on sale. Heres to hoping for black Friday.
Stuart
Amazon is not an authorized Milwaukee Tool dealer.
Frank
And, Milwaukee was on sale at Home Depot a week or two ago …

Lost of broken links in your list
Stuart
Can you please be specific? I fixed the Crescent link and retested the others.
Amazon does have some broken links on their site, but there’s nothing that we can do about that.

The DeWalt 20% does not work.
Stuart
What do you see? The link displays properly on my desktop, in an “incognito” browser, on my Android device, and on the desktop in Firefox.
If you’re talking about the deal not working, the discount is supposed to appear at checkout.

I have been watching for a deal in the RING doorbell and its now just $169.00 for the Ring Pro (Usually $249.00) so I jumped on it, previous sales only went to $199.00 so it looks like a decent bargain.
RogueJello
I’ve got a Ring, it’s almost useless without their monthly subscription to a cloud account to store the footage, and there’s no way to direct the footage to another location. I don’t fault them for their business model, but I would not have bought one if I had know about the monthly fee.

I see that eray alarm systems are part of the Prime Day Deals. Their car coating thickness gauges also are part of the prime day deals – and they seem to get better reviews than the alarms:
https://www.amazon.com/ERAY-Thickness-Handheld-Automotive-Backlight/dp/B01GO4ZXJ8/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=eray&qid=1563219133&s=gateway&sr=8-1
I have no knowledge of this brand – nor their alarms or instruments – but just spied them when browsing.

Lots of the dewalt stuff appears to be higher prices than when I purchased them myself, outside of any deal or event.
Gordon
Welcome to Amazon pricing.

Not tool related but the fire stick at $15 is a smoking deal since it has the new remote that controls your TV as well. Good upgrade since we don’t have smart TV’s.
On a stretch of a tool related product, ring doorbell with free echo dot (or echo dot alone for $22) also seems quite solid. I use the Echo on bench top for things like playing pandora, a quick SAE/Metric conversion etc. when my hands are dirty or my phone is out of reach.

The Bosch 5 in q Flexiclick worked like a charm. List for $180 added $20 in drill bits got me to $201, applied the 25% coupon plus the $50 off $200, got it for $113.00. I figure even if I don’t like it I can flip it and make small profit
bwh
25% coupon?
fred
For comparison purposes – you might take a look at Max Tool – doing a $20 off $100 deal – with free shipping over $49

The 4pc gearwrench 120xp ratchet set is at about the best price I’ve ever seen for it if you have prime. The shipped total was somewhere south of $80 for a set that floats between $96 on sale and $110 at street price.
