Over at Amazon, they’re running a “last-minute” deal of the day on a bunch of tools. Some of them are decent bargains, but there’s not a whole lot of variety.

Deals end at 3am ET on 12/20/2017, unless supplies sell out sooner.
There’s also a deal on this Dewalt 18V drill/driver kit, for $75. As we saw in our Dewalt 18V drill and impact driver combo kit deal post, there are still some fans of this and other NiCad tools.
Here are some other new-ish tool deals that Amazon is currently running:
Tekton 3pc mallet set: $10.84
Tekton 1/2″ click torque wrench: $30
General Tools digital sliding T-bevel gauge: $14.75
Gearwrench 16pc metric ratcheting wrench set: $76.79
Save on Gearwrench and Crescent Tools – not a new deal, but one that fell below my radar.

I have that Aircat impact wrench. No complaints so far.

Meijer (not fred meyer), a regional chain, has their tekton tools as buy one, get a second one for 50% off. Their prices are generally as good as, or better than, Amazon. I have a number of their small tools and like them better than anything else at that price. They’re not high-end, but for a diyer/hobbyist work very well.

Ironically the founder of Meijer is Fredrick Meijer…. Not to be confused with Fred Meyer lol. And yes it is a(very large) regional chain that rival’s Walmart in many ways. Both Tekton and Meijer call Grand Rapids MI home….

Seems they cut back a ton of what they offered last year though. Mainly I wanted to buy an air hose real & the 3/8″ & 1/2″ deep/standard combo impact set yesterday (and maybe the $50 4″ vice). I waited/planned all year for the anticipated 50% off for black friday but they skipped out on that this year. Then yesterday they had a 40% off any Tekton tool mPerk coupon, but no stock of anything good near me.
They still have a wide selection, but have a feeling most of the big items weren’t flying off the shelves.

I was going to get that three piece Tektron rubber mallet set but some of the reviews are quite bad.

Even if they were well made – black rubber mallets tend to leave marks on wood – so they are not a good choice for carpentry/woodworking

I have been very pleased with a few of the orange deadblow mallets from Harbor Freight (in 1, 2, and 3 pound sizes). I’ve never gone back to bouncy black rubber mallets since.

We bought one General digital bevel gauge in 2011. My old inventory said we paid about $38 for it. The guys that tried it felt we had paid $39 too much. I recall them complaining that it was inaccurate and not even repeatedly so.

The DeWALT hand tools are quite good. I bought the 3/8″ drive MM universal set during an Amazon deal of the day a short time back. The impact sockets are CR-MO and COO is Tiwan. The universals are a bit chunky but not any more so then Sunex, GP or even S&K. They appear to be identical to the Mac Expert line universals.

I bought VINCA DCLA-0605 Quality Electronic Digital Vernier Caliper on Amazon for 12.92. I just happen to need one and the price looks like a great deal. Also gets good reviews.
