American Hammer is offering an incredible deal right now with an interesting catch. If you promise to write an unbiased and honest review of your purchase, American Hammer will sell you any brass, bronze, or copper hammer under 2 pounds for $25, and that includes shipping fees.
If you’re in the market for a metal non-marring hammer, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better price than this. American Hammer’s distributors are probably not happy with this new direct sales promo, so keep in mind that the offer may be short lived.

In case you’re wondering how great of a deal $25 shipped per hammer is, check out some of the prices of American Hammer via Amazon, or via one of their suppliers: 24 oz brass hammer: $67.82; 16 oz bronze hammer: $57.65; 24 oz copper hammer with hickory handle: $42.31. These prices do not include shipping!
American Hammer is a USA-based tool company that specializes in non-marring and non-sparking hammers. Their hammers are designed to last beyond a lifetime and are intended for a wide audience, from those who rely on quality tools for their livehood, to DIYers and metal working hobbyists.
American manufacturers must bring back the quality of ‘once was’ and as equally important, value. – Ted Leitter, American Hammer President
So what prompted this deal? Well, it seems that American Hammer’s distributors have been marking up the tools a bit higher than expected. Ted Leitter, president of American Hammer, is unhappy about this, and wants to see their hammers’ retail markup cut down to more reasonable levels.
Ted mentioned that some suppliers feel that American Hammer’s products are just too good to be priced so low for average tool buyers. Most of all, Ted wants to emphasize that it is still possible to provide quality USA-made tools at affordable prices.
As mentioned, Ted and American Hammer will extend this deal ($25 shipped for any brass, bronze, or copper hammer under 2lbs) to anyone who is willing to offer a brief review.

This [promotional price] will serve as a wake up call to those suppliers who feel our hammers are just too good to be priced so low for the average tool buyer and forcing them to buy cheap imports. – Ted Leitter

I ordered the 8oz. brass hammer. I was looking for a good quality brass hammer and this one just might be perfect.
Stuart
Don’t forget to post a review of it, I’m eager to see how these hammers handle. Personally, I’m looking to order a copper hammer (probably 24oz) for use on aluminum.
Markles
Please give a honest review. Not just some BS because the manufacture cut you a deal.
Stuart
Markles, do you really think that the deal will affect customers’ objectivity? I would think that most if not all users would provide honest opinions after purchasing their hammers since they don’t stand to gain or lose anything at that point.
Eric
I have ordered both the 4 lb lead hammer and the 1.5 lb brass hammer. I can say they are two of the finest hammers I have used. The aluminum handle fits my hand very well and does not slip.
The head is solidly attached and I have absolutely no fears of it separating or loosening over time.
They are well balanced and hit solid! No issues with vibration through the handle.
These are premium, American made hammers. The recast program too is a benefit – these hammers will get passed on to my son. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one!
SharkBreath
The hammer I ordered is delayed for short bit for casting and polishing.
Stuart
SharkBreath, it sounds like the hammer you ordered isn’t from the regular product lineup. If so, and it was a custom hammer or perhaps an out of stock item, that would explain the delay.
Stuart
Please note the post update that mentions that this direct-sales offer will expire on March 31st 2010.

Has any manufacture marketed a ratcheting visegrip type of devise ????
It seems so obvious, yet Ive never found one..
please advise
Thanks
Jeff
Stuart
Jeff,
Ratcheting in what respect, the jaw or the handle? If you’re talking about the handle, I suppose it’s because today’s screw-adjustment mechanisms are great for both fine and coarse tuning. Once the proper opening width is dialed in, there is high repeatability.
A ratcheting mechanism would likely (at least in my opinion) increase the complexity of such tools, especially if it is expected to endure some of the abuse locking pliers are frequently put through.
