In our recent knife & multitool gift guide, reader Maikeru mentioned his search for a one-handed open and closing knife. There are times when you might need to hold onto whatever it is you’re cutting and must deploy and then close a knife with only your one free hand. Benchmade’s mini-Griptilian fits the bill.
Benchmade’s mini-Griptilian folding knife has the easiest closing mechanism I have ever seen. Without an open-assist mechanism, the knife is still extremely quick to open and close one-handed with a fluidic motion, thanks to its Axis locking mechanism. Following is a quick video showing how the knife can be opened and closed.
If the knife is pointing down, the blade can actually swing closed by itself once the lock is disengaged, but that’s not something I sought to show in the video.
Benchmade’s full-size Griptilian and quite a few other knives feature their “Axis Lock” as well.
