The WoodRiver hold down clamp and smaller clamps like Blokks clamping blocks are great for clamping down wood, but what if you need something a little stronger for securing metal workpieces?

There are many ways of securing metal pieces to milling and drilling tables, with the Bessey RiteHite self-adjusting hold-down being most closely related to woodworking hold-down clamps. The RiteHite has a single-component hold-down body made from ductile iron, an attached swivel rocker, and is threaded for bolts as small as 3/8″.

The larger the RiteHite hold-down, the taller the maximum clamping height and larger the threaded bolt you need to use with it.

Generally, these hold-downs are used with a T-slot nut and threaded stud, or a threaded bolt, and a flanged nut with washer on top. These fixture components must be purchased separately.

The smallest size, 376L, requires a 3/8″ bolt and has a 1″ maximum clamping height, 8,800 lbs load limit, and 55 ft-lbs max torque. The largest size, 1000L, requires a 1″ bolt and has a 5″ maximum clamping height, 51,000 lbs load limit, and 850 ft-lbs of max torque.
