Deal Analysis
One of the best things about these Dewalt 20V Max battery 3-pack deals is that you get a variety of sizes. You get a compact 2Ah battery, a 4Ah battery, and a larger form factor 6Ah or 8Ah battery. This gives you the flexibility to power a very wide range of Dewalt cordless power tools with the best battery size for the task.

I just came across this deal at Lowe’s for an 8ah, 4ah and 2ah Dewalt battery set for $169. It seems like a pretty good deal at just over $12/ah.
$169 is indeed a great price for this promo! I checked our archives from last year’s coverage, and Home Depot had a similar Dewalt battery bundle pack, but at $149. The deal has returned at the same price. So, we now have two separate Dewalt 20V Max battery deals for Black Friday 2021.
At first, I thought that the two deals are the same, but they’re not. The two Dewalt 20V Max battery 3-packs have just one different battery – Home Depot’s offer includes a 6Ah battery while Lowe’s offer has a 8Ah battery.
Let’s start off by calculating the cost per amp-hour for each deal. As many of you might already know, the amp-hour (Ah) rating of a battery refers to its charge capacity. This directly correlates to runtime; the higher the amp-hour rating, the longer the runtime. Thus, a lower cost per amp-hour means lower operating expense.
Home Depot Deal: 2Ah + 4Ah + 6Ah for $149 = $12.42 per amp-hour
Lowe’s Deal: 2Ah + 4Ah + 8Ah for $169 = $12.07 per amp-hour
Thus, Lowe’s deal is technically the better value. In my opinion, however, the cost per amp-hour is close enough here that you could disregard it. These are both excellent values.
I would say go for the Home Depot Dewalt battery deal for the lower price, or the Lowe’s Dewalt battery deal for the longer runtime (or if you must have the absolute best possible bargain). Or, if you’re a late holiday shopper, choose according to which retailer still has batteries in stock.
But are These Good Deals? For the sake of this comparison, let’s consider Black Friday deal pricing exclusively. The next-best deals are a Dewalt 20V Max battery 4-pack at Lowe’s that comes with 2x 2Ah batteries and 2x 4Ah batteries. Add 2x 6Ah batteries, and the price for all 6 batteries would come out to $328. If you split that with a friend, you can get a 3pc set of 2Ah, 4Ah, and 6Ah batteries for $164.
So, the next-best deal gives you 3 batteries with a total charge capacity of 12Ah for $164. Home Depot’s 3-battery deal is $149. Lowe’s deal gives you an extra 2Ah for just $5 more, which is 16.7% greater charge capacity for 3% more money.
At the time of this posting, the next best deal that I’ve found is a Lowe’s 4-battery deal, which gives you 12Ah at $13.25 per amp-hour. There’s also a 6Ah battery 2-pack for $169, which comes out to $14.08 per amp-hour, and a compact 3Ah battery 2-pack for $99, which comes out to $16.50 per amp-hour.

I do think the $199 4.0 + 6.0 + free tool combo is a far better deal.
For $50 more and giving up the 2.0 battery, you get a bag ($15?), charger ($35) and a tool valued up to $199 retail value or $99.50 return value. The router, 7-1/4 saw and grinder are the most worthy tools in this deal, either you decide to keep it or not.
The 2.0 is worth $30-35 realistically and not very useful for most tools.
However last year deal was even better, at the same price it was offered with the new 4.0 with 21700 cells instead. This years $399 + 2 free tool combo is also a very good deal, even though the 6.0 flexvolt battery isn’t as good as the 6.0 XR for 20V applications.
Here you’re getting $10 per Ah, and if you value the free tool at $99 the charger and bag come free.

If you’re the reselling type of person who wants to deal with ebay, Craigslist, or other marketplaces, sure. Parting out a kit and selling what you don’t want can turn a lot of deals into “better” buys. But, it’s a hassle that a lot of people simply don’t want to deal with – myself included.

The new Atomic impact kit comes with a free 5Ah battery now. https://toolguyd.com/dewalt-dcf850-atomic-impact-driver-kit-bonus-battery-deal-blackfriday2021/ You can get a “better deal” if you sell the impact and keep the batteries, or sell the batteries and keep the tool. But again, it’s a hassle most people don’t want to deal with.
As for the batteries, the 2Ah is great for smaller tools like impact drivers, or low-demand tools like a couple of Dewalt’s flashlights and worklights.

Yeah, I was bummed they didn’t have the same 4AH battery as last year.
So if you got this deal and got the 6AH Flexvolt as your freebie it would work out to:
6 AH + 4 AH + 6 AH = 16 AH for $199 = $12.44 per amp-hour
So pretty comparable and might be a better choice IF you have Flexvolt or Flexvolt Advantage tools.

I used to be skeptical about the 2ah batteries. I never would have bought one on my own but I ended up getting two in combo kits last year. I figured why not give them a try, and I ended up liking them a lot. Sure they’re not powerful enough for a grinder or a circ saw or a lot of heavy work, but they’re more than adequate for a lot of jobs and light and handy at the same time.
I’d much rather have an extra 2ah battery than a bag or charger, I’ve already got a pile of both those. Now that said, the free tool can make it a great deal if that’s what you need.

I am potentially interested in them as the small form factor really helps address one of Dewalt’s major weaknesses: clunky batteries for tools meant to be used in tight quarters, like mechanic’s ratchets and impact drivers.
But as you said the price is quite steep, I’m going to wait and see if they offer and bundles or promos.
I’m interested in larger Flexvolt batteries as well but not the 6ah.

That’s also the retail price, there will eventually be sales on it and/or bundle deals. Even the bottom of the barrel 1.5Ah DCB201 retails for $58.66/Ah.

I’ve given up on understanding holiday pricing. For instance, Dewalt has a promo impact driver kit with 1 battery for $99, but the same retailer also has the 2 battery kit for $99.
With batteries, I try to look at “what I would buy” pricing. Adding up prices for individual 2Ah, 4Ah, and 6Ah batteries would make these deals look a lot better, but individual users are not going to buy batteries like that, then2-packs are so much more economical unless you really only need just 1.

It’s weird – Amazon also has the 1.5Ah for $89. I didn’t even know that battery was sold separately from kits anymore.
But looking around, the 2.0Ah is also $89 directly from Amazon. I hope nobody spends the same for the 1.5Ah.
In Acme’s deal, they have a 2Ah x 2-pack for $99, but I swapped in a link to the 2 x 3Ah batteries since it’s the same $99 price. There are reasons to get the 2Ah, but most people are going to prefer the 3Ah batteries for the same money, despite the slightly larger form factor. You get 50% more runtime for $0 extra.
I just used the impact scenario as a further example of odd pricing and value.

The other thing to consider is what cells are in the batteries. I don’t think the 2s and 4s have 2XXXX cells, but I would have to check the model numbers. And yes, it absolutelyyyy matters. I can tell you that the speed/power difference is noticeable when using the newer cells vs the old.
