Price Drop: Black & Decker LED Snakelight

Black and Decker SnakeLight

I reviewed the Black & Decker LED Snakelight worklight a few months ago, and am still every bit impressed with it now as I was then. This new rechargeable Snakelight is fantastic.

When it was launched, the Snakelight was priced at $42, and it remained at that price for a while. Sometime this Spring, the Snakelight dropped below $30, to $28 and change. The LED Snakelight is a fantastic work light at ~$40, and at under $30 it’s a great bargain.

The Kobalt HyperCoil LED work light also dropped in price, to just $9 via Lowes. In my opinion the Snakelight is a much better work light. Lowes has dropped the price so much because they still have many dozens of unsold HyperCoil flashlights at a lot of store locations.

  1. But its me!

As an even less expensive, but somewhat more cumbersome option the Kobalt Hypercoil worklight is also on clearance at the local six Lowe’s. I picked one up at $9 this weekend, since it finally dropped to a level I could not resist. It is cumbersome however, with the two collars easy to lose (they connect the two battery packs directly to the light head, minus the coil portion). But for $9 not too bad.

Yes, I mentioned the HyperCoil at the end of the post. The HyperCoil is cheaper, but it’s also a cheaper product that doesn’t seem to work as well as the SnakeLight.

I picked the HyperCoil today, thanks Stuart!

I found the light to be quite versatile. I like the build in charger and the lantern mode. I probably will pick up another one tomorrow 🙂

After reading both of your review and having the HyperCoil in my hand I have grow quite fond of its feature set. I don’t like the small power button (took me awhile to figure out how to turn it on) and it definitely have a cheap feel to it. I can’t really complain for the current price, but anything higher probably won’t worth your money.

I wouldn’t might paying more for a similar feature set with better build quality.
