There are a number of miter saws on sale as part of “early Black Friday” promotions, and others will be going on sale as part of stores’ Black Friday 2018 promotions.
I am looking at the Dewalt DW716XPS, again. I had my eye on it last year, and debated about in an August discussion post: I Can’t Decide on a New Miter Saw for a Future “Miter Saw Station”.
There are always other deals throughout the holiday season, and maybe even undisclosed flash sales Thanksgiving weekend. So far, these are the deals we know about.

Dewalt DW715 12″ Compound Miter Saw
The Dewalt DW715 is a 12″ single-bevel compound miter saw. It seems to be a no-frills model, but has great reviews.
This is probably the least expensive pro-grade 12″ miter saw you can buy. If you can accommodate the single-bevel design, this is a fantastic deal.

Dewalt DWS779 12″ Dual Bevel Sliding Miter Saw
The Dewalt DWS779 is a very popular 12″ sliding miter saw, selling for less than Dewat’s DWS780 flagship corded 12″ sliding miter saw. If you want that top of the line DWS780, some stores typically offer a “buy the saw, get a free saw stand” promo later in the holiday season.
The DWS779 is a dual bevel saw, and with the back fence design it can make cuts of up to 16″ in 2x material, at 90°. This model seems to have very good reviews, and is probably the best-featured pro-grade 12″ sliding miter saw you’ll find at this price.

Several dealers show a $100 discount on the Milwaukee m18 Fuel 10″ dual bevel sliding miter saw kit, 2734-21HD.
I’ve seen better “deal of the day” pricing in the past, but if you want the cordless miter saw kit ASAP, I’m sure that $100 savings off the regular price is still appreciated.

I jumped on the Dewalt DWS779 miter saw and DWX723 stand deal from Lowe’s last week. Prior to that I was considering the HD bundle with the same saw and DWX726 rolling stand. I thought I’d like a rolling stand, but the reviews indicate issues with the raising/lower mechanismn; the extensions are weak and don’t have stops for repeat cuts; and with that big of a saw, storing it on the stand will take up quite a bit of room (although, setup would be quicker). Which stand do you recommend between the two?
The saw is probably overkill for my needs and will be more difficult to store. I’m a sucker for best value deals though! A more ideal pairing is probably the DW715 and ridged rolling stand which is normally $100 during Black Friday. That pairing is still $300. Any thoughts on this alternative setup compared to those mentioned above?
Chris
The newer versions of the DWX726 seem to have fixed the raising/lowering problem although the mechanism does take a minute to figure it out. Newer versions have also dropped the extension rollers for roundbar with a stop that can be used on either side. If you are worried about material support you can build/buy/bang together an under arm support or use an auxiliary adjustable support … but if you dealing with material big/long enough to consistently be a problem then any mobile rolling stand might be the wrong choice for your needs.
Eric
Thanks Chris! I have the Dewalt DWE7491rs table saw on the rolling cart. It’s great, because I can set up shop in the garage/driveway when I need too. Then, stow it away in the basement. The DWX726 could provide a similar experience.
ca
I mounted DeWalt’s large planer (at least twice as heavy as a mitre saw) on that stand an it has no problems raising/lowering.

I have the DW715 on the Ridgid miter saw stand, which is a fantastic setup.
It depends what you’re doing with it. If you’re mostly doing construction type work with 1x, 2x or 4x, then 715 works great. If it had the shadow cut line, it would be almost a perfect setup for my needs.
If you’re doing finish carpentry or woodworking, then it’s sometimes important to be able to control the direction of tearout and you’ll appreciate that second bevel and larger crosscut capacity.
Whether that’s with another $100 is up to you.
Eric
I just ran some numbers. The HD bundle would cost me about $80 more than what I paid for for the DWS779 miter saw and DWX723 stand. I think I’d be better off buying the Rigid rolling stand at $100 in addition to the DWS779/DWX723 combo I already have. For about $20 more than the HD bundle, I’d get the the the saw, a folding stand, and a rolling stand. The saw can go on the Rigid rolling stand (which from what I’ve read, I’ve determined to have better wheels and stops than the Dewalt rolling stand) and the folding stand can be used for planers, router tables, drill press, etc. That may be the best value alternative.
Is HD running the $100 Rigid deal this BF? After writing the above, I checked the ad and didn’t find it. I may have assumed it would be on sale as it past years.
Eric
*Is HD running the $100 Rigid rolling miter saw stand deal this BF?*
Stuart
I didn’t see anything about that yet.
Buster
Buy it! The stand is well-made if you know how to use it it does take up a lot of room excellent value. Have a Bosch slider on that stand no problems.

Any suggestions on the best small carry type miter saw stand? I need a stand for the 7 1/4 Milwaukee, but can’t decide between milwaukee’s fold up stand 48-08-0551, the similarish but cheaper Bosch T1B (or maybe the one with wheels that isn’t gravity rise), or the makita or DeWalt or similar of those style stands. Curious if anybody has used any of them and why they went with what they did…
Todd
I have the compact Dewalt folding stand without the extension wings for my 10″ cordless Milwaukee saw. I really wish I had the model with the extensions. As is I have to haul 1 or 2 roller work supports for longer cuts, each of which weighs more than the Dewalt stand and have a much larger footprint than said stand. The quick connecting latches attached to the saw can be a little awkward to get on the stand at times, not enough to warrant a scathing review.
I am not very familiar with any other companies rendition but they all look more or less the same. The new Milwaukee folding compact stand looks nice and has an aftermarket accessory tray that will hold not paper, pencils, a tape measure etc which I really like.I know Dewalt sells different accessories you can swap between for their extensions, other companies likely do as well but is one thing you may want to consider.
You are pretty safe buying one of these from any of the big companies in terms of quality and durability. One more thing of note, the Dewalts (and likely others) are rated for 1000lbs and can double as a saw horse when you don’t need a saw on them.
Tim E.
Thanks for the feedback, the outboard supports are definitely important, I hadn’t noticed that the DeWalt didn’t have them.
John C
According to Dewalt’s part site the DWS780 and the DWS779 do not share the same motor. Everything else seems to be identical (aside from the missing XPS light) I pulled the trigger on the HD combo set as well. I am curious to see how the motor life compares, and if it delivers the same torque.
Disappointed about it coming with a 32 tooth blade, but at that price… I may consider buying the parts for the light from M&M with the harness, or just buy the single parts elsewhere and make my own harness.
The stand seems a bit awkward getting it to go down, time will tell.
Koko the Talking Ape
Does anybody have any experience with that Ryobi TSS102 10″ slider? It sure is cheap.
Koko the Talking Ape
I see Benjamin had a hell of a time truing up a cordless Ryobi that looks similar.
Stuart
Yes. Sometimes you save money but have to spend more time or effort on things like that.
Tim
I picked up one last black friday. The fence did not come square, the laser needed adjustment, and when adjusting the blade angle, it’s important to note that leaning it back to the stopping point generally seems to take it a degree or two past zero.
All in all, the saw has done great for me. All of the adjustments took me about 10-15 minutes and are easily figured out even if you’ve never trued a miter saw up before. I replaced the blade with a finer tooth blade, as the one that comes with it is pretty rough (most are, and can’t expect much better for the price).
I think it’s a fine saw for the money, although clearly not a professional saw. I think I paid $150 last black friday with a folding miter stand.
I recently picked up the dewalt 779, but haven’t swapped over to using it yet. I’ve been waiting to see if any better deals show up before I open it up.
Mark Lee Shelton
I picked up the 779 at HD yesterday. The stand is great. I will add the XPS light to it with a kit from mm toolparts. I have the 12″ Hitachi saw and it’s fantastic. I also have the. Porter Cable folder for small jobs and I recommend it to everyone it is great. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

If you’re in the so cal area,Dixieline Lumber has the 10″ Milwaukee Cordless Miter Saw for $599, with extra 9.0 battery,&Miter stand til Nov 25th.

Ok, I’m looking again at that Ryobi sliding saw, even though I just posted in Ben’s review that the one I tried was horrible. I don’t mind some calibration and maybe I got a lemon the first time, so I’ll give it a second shot. I’m willing to do any adjusting that works and stays put, don’t care much about lasers, so probably won’t even bother with that. If the table is not flat, though, it will be a deal killer. No way to easily flatten a table for me. Since Home Depot has good returns it’s worth a second try. Hoping not too much slop in the sliding mechanism.
It’s tempting at that price, coupled with what looks like decent dust collection that would be easy to mod to make it even better. If I can get it easily at HD, I’ll post a review follow up in Ben’s review.

I don’t know if it qualifies as a black friday deal, but the craftsman 20v miter saw is now $199 at lowes: https://m.lowes.com/pd/CRAFTSMAN-7-1-4-in-20-Volt-Max-Single-Bevel-Sliding-Compound-Miter-Saw/1000669257

This needs to be talked about more. This is a cordless 7 1/4″ saw with what seems to be a shadow line. Includes a battery and is $199 and a 3 year warranty.
This is the cheapest cordless miter saw out there. I’ll be buying one tomorrow.
Brian M
I have the Ryobi, once you change the blade and set it up, it stays dead-on accurate. I’ve been really impressed with it, I was planning on upgrading at some point but it’s been great. I use it a lot, cutting strips 1/8″ to 1/4″ thick regularly for making cutting/clip boards.

Wow, no one has the Dewalt single bevel 10” miter saw this year for Black Friday. Last year HD, Lowe’s and Amazon has it on sale and the year before also! I have been putting off the purchase thinking it would be on sale again?
Eric
What did it go for?

I’d love to hear opinions on the Makita ls1221 vs DeWalt 716xps. I have found pros and cons online for both, would love to hear what everyone thinks, I’m trying to make a decision. Thanks to all! If it helps, I use it mostly for fine woodworking.

I’ve held off on my Metabo HPT (hitachi) 36v 10” with wall adapter purchase and am now waffling between it and the 12” Bosch. I wish I had a time machine to determine which would be a better addition to my work trailer. ☹️
