Limited Lighting Deal: Dremel 3-Tool Bundle
This is a good-looking deal on a trio of Dremel tools. It looks to be a Lighting Deal, as there’s a countdown timer, but there’s also a “ends in…” timer that goes to 3am ET 11/25. I suppose the deal ends when either the time or quantity limit is reached.

Seek Thermal
I’m not much a fan of Seek Thermal’s low-resolution (but still useful) thermal imaging smartphone devices, and haven’t tried their standalone imager. I sent the modules to Ben, and he’s used them a few times, posting images of stuff to his Instagram page.
User reviews are mixed. But it’s still worth a look.

Makita’s robotic 18V X2 vac is on sale as part of a Lightning Deal of the day. It just went from 33% claimed back down to 16% claimed. So… they probably have a multiple of 6 in stock. (I figure they went from 2 out of 6 sold, to 1 of 6 with someone backing out.)

The Dremel deals look good based on price cuts versus the original asking price. For me that’s all that’s good about them. My thought is that the brand would be better off “sticking to their knitting.” Their high-speed rotary tools, from their introduction to today’s models are nice tools. While they appeal mostly to hobbyists and homeowners, our installers would carry one on the truck for some finicky/small cutting, grinding or polishing jobs.
Their oscillating multi-tool and small circular saw never held much appeal for us (or me) – but maybe are OK. Their “Velocity” tool – just looks amateurish to me – and at $180 I could not imagine they sold many. Even at $99 it looks like a tool that would only get sold for gift-giving – not something anyone would buy for commercial or even hard DIY use.
Greg
I’ve looked into those Milwaukee nailers. Currently i use the ryobi 18 ga and love it. But my truck is all Milwaukee so i wanted to get on the same battery platform. Read tons of reviews and there just were not doing well in the field it seems. Unless these are 2nd gen i would be weary.
fred
My ex-compatriots said the same thing about both the Milwaukee and Makita – both being a bit inconsistent in sinking brads when they tried them out. But, I too have heard good things about the Ryobi – and the price is certainly right:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Ryobi-18-Volt-ONE-AirStrike-18-Gauge-Cordless-Brad-Nailer-Tool-Only-P320/203810823
Maybe TTI wanted their flagship Milwaukee to be better than their budget Ryobi – but somehow missed the mark

I have the Milwaukee 15g and the 16g straight finish nailers. I had to send the 15g back after I bought it from HD for $100 and it was not working. Milwaukee sent me a brand new gun in under a week.
They are heavy, no two ways about it. They are very convenient when you don’t need to shoot a ton of nails (not that they can’t, I’ve run ~400 nails through the 15g in a day on a single charge) but it is at least twice as heavy with my Makita 15g pneumatic even with 8′ of hose in the air when up on a ladder.
I have not had any problems with either gun sinking nails in softer trim wood through plaster/lathe or sheet rock and into any kind of stud you can imagine (super green, kiln dried, 100+ year old ship timbers in San Fran) and I shot some 1/2″ Oak thresholds down through 3/4″ Oak floor, through subfloor into joists and both guns seemed to set the nails the same depth as when shooting everything else.

On the Bosch GLL 30: Pretty good deal on the laser itself, but HD has the GLL 2 on BF sale for $30. While the GLL 30 is suppose to be the latest model, it looks to be inferior to the GLL 2 in almost every way. The accuracy is lower at 5/16″ vs 3/16″ and it does have independent horizontal and vertical modes.
Thanks,
–Jamie
Stuart
Agreed. I mentioned this in a deal post about the GLL 2. https://toolguyd.com/bosch-basic-laser-tools-deal-h2017/
The GLL 30 does look to have a new and better design, despite the slightly worse accuracy.
But it’s a moot point. The GLL 2 has been picked clean from my local Home Depot stores, and you can’t buy it from Home Depot’s website anymore either.

I have the older model. It’s pretty good for the money. However I would suggest buying a separate tripod since the attached mounting device is just plain horrible.
Here is one I just got from best buy for $9 – works really well:

I bought the gll30 from Amazon at 8 am (Pacific time) then made it to home depot at 3pm. They had about 6 of the gll2 in stock so I grabbed that one and cancelled the Amazon order. I already put it to use building some shelves today. Very handy. I wish I had gotten one years ago.

I guess I’ll return the Milwaukee nailer for $219 to Home Depot since I ordered this one here at acme

What’s the big savings on the flir. I really think it’s a useful tool. I’m curious if that’s a good enough deal to buy!
Stuart
The C3 is $549, from $699, and the other models are also discounted.
The newest version of E4 is $899, from $999, the E5 also looks discounted by $100, the E6 looks to be discounted by $750!, and E8 by $1000.
Neil H
I bought the e6. With the storm and all the damage here in swfl I want to check for leaks
Jae
Looks like I’ll have to keep my s60 Cat around after I replace it just off the price if a standalone flir being the same price as it when the standalone is on sale. Garbage phone. Decent flir camera.
Anybody see any decent deals on any Metabo products?
Andrew
Not sure where I should post this but Lowe’s has an in-store bundle on their Kobalt saw horses ( https://m.lowes.com/pd/Kobalt-42-in-Steel-Adjustable-Saw-Horse-1-300-lb/1000105591 ) for 49.99. They’re normally 59.99 for a pair or 34.99 each. I’ve been looking for a deal on these since they came out.

Stuart, the Keter tool box struck my interest as a cordless tool storage solution. I read your review, which seemed to cast it in a positive light. Do you think this box is appropriately sized for that use, or would you deem it too small? Thank you.
Stuart
It has held some of my cordless tools, but compact ones. It might hold larger tools, like a circular saw, but I’d have to check.
I think that one of the rolling tool boxes might be a better, or at least more confident, fit.
J., Homeowner
Thank you for the feedback. Keep up the excellent work. Your knowledge is a resource to many.

Stuart is it me or did the Black Friday deals seem lack luster or in much less volume than last year either in stores or online? I remember walking out of Home Depot last year with a bunch of deals and just about everything I needed. This year there wasn’t as much. I wish they had the Leatherman Skeletool again this year. Maybe I’ve finally gotten to the point of having most of every tool I need as well. Not sure. There’s still Cyber Monday I figure. I guess thinking about it last year was a big release year for new products from most tool companies too.
Stuart
Things are a little different this year. I wouldn’t say they’re lackluster, because that all depends on what you’re looking for.
I feel that the cordless power tool deals are better, and there’s also more of the usual “special buy” type.
If you have most of the tools you need or want, there are still some good deals, you just have to look harder for them.
I bought some new PB Swiss tools, a bunch of stuff from KC Tool, router bits at Carbide Processors, Lenox consumables at Home Depot, Bosch bits at Amazon, and I plan on order some Diablo and Milwaukee hole saws from Acme Tool and Home Depot, *maybe* the Ridgid vac with auto detailing kit, and possibly some Hitachi air tools.
I might order some stuff on Cyber Monday if there are good deals. Later, I’m going to go back and look at Leatherman’s deals. Amazon’s deals are very good, although they seem to have given up on Lightning Deals, compared to what they did for previous years.
Some retailers are trying harder this year to offer more compelling deals, while others aren’t doing as much, or are focusing on Cyber Monday instead.
Greg
Stuart,
This is true. I got most of everything this year from KC Tool. I did get a few Knipex deals on Amazon of stuff I was already going to buy. I did also hold out for the $12 (and some change) deal on the 32″ LED Shop Light by Lithonia at Home Depot in store. I had planned to buy 15 of the units this summer when they were regularly priced at $14.99. It saved me $30 waiting for today so I’ll take that. (Have a huge barn / work space where these would work best and for that volume they are the cheapest by a long shot).
I guess I should rephrase lack luster. I was more excited with power tool and hand tool choices last year in stores. Cashed in on the Milwaukee M18 Fuel One Key set and extra tool among the things.
The local Home Depot (in a town of 12,000 people) has to stock everything the other ones do. Typically though a lot of the stuff doesn’t get bought at all like the other locations. Come New Years almost all the Black Friday deals (which there’s usually plenty of volume) are heavily clearanced vs the other stores. This February I walked out with the 12″ Flexvolt Dewalt saw with the free rolling stand promotion for $299 plus local tax to give an example. They no longer stock these saws either, because nobody around bought them. This summer I managed to nab the table saw for $199 because of the same deal. They even had the Skeletool marked down to $10 just after New Years. I kick myself for not buying more than 2 of them thinking they’d be around this year.
fred
I snatched up a batch of Makita and Milwaukee stuff both for gift-giving – and in the case of a chainsaw – for my summer home. The 4-battery deals on Makita (especially when Toolup let you also use the $25 off coupon was appealing. Acme’s deals on Milwaukee (like $99 for their cordless hedge trimmer) also looked good. I used the deals to buy a Makita cordless router kit as a gift – then rounded it out with the extra Makita bases and dust extraction accessories – splitting my orders to take advantage of multiple $25 coupons.
Overall – I did my bit to help the internet economy – not much at the bricks and mortar stores – other than Petsmart for their 1/2 off sales for all the dogs and cats in my extended family.
RF
I agree, the deal I miss most is on parallel clamps, Jet and/or Bessey.
fred
I got an email from Rockler – they say that Jet parallel clmaps are on sale for 25% off.
May be worth a look
fred
looks like they are sold out in most sizes.

A bigger dilemma for me is the laser measure. I have an older Bosch GLM 50 I’ve used for years. Its great, but like Stuart mentioned in a post somewhere, I wanted another for the house to do a quick measurements without going to the shop to get the GLM 50. So I picked up the GLM 20 at HD yesterday. Its wonderfully small and has a backlight. However, for half the price I can get the Kobalt one at Lowes. The Lowes one is much bigger, comparable to the GLM 50 which is certainly not pocketable.
Then you have the GLM 10 on Amazon for ~$32. Its the same size of the -20, but no backlight. Choices 🙂

I took advantage of these deals the other day! I ordered the brad nailer and narrow crown stapler from Amazon, pin nailer from Acme Tools.
I wanted a “baseline” for future cordless nailer tests, as well as for project use.
Plus, Hitachi nailers are usually well regarded, and I wanted to see for myself.
SawdustTX
The MIlwaukee M18 9.0 battery deal is great – I picked it up for $229 with the free saw, then sold off the saw on Craiglist as “new in box” for $140. So I ended up with a $200 battery and charger for only $89. 🙂
