The Boker Advent Calendar for 2024 features a build-a-knife version of their Aphex Mini folder, with flipper opening mechanism and D2 blade steel.
It comes with enough parts to build one button lock folding knife, and also a couple of handle scales, screws, and clips to allow for some customization.
Update: Amazon seems to have sold out, and I haven’t found it at other trusted dealers yet.

The Boker Advent Calendar seems like a fun experience.

From the images, the Aphex Mini you build is slightly different from the regular model, presumably because you have to build it yourself rather than in a production environment.

Not an advent calendar, but Lee Valley has a couple of knife kits, including folding.

Is it a liner lock? One handed opening and closing with the Benchmade may have spoiled me.

Same here, Benchmade’s AXIS lock is the way to go. I won’t even consider a knife anymore if I can’t open and close it with one hand.

I build one of these a couple years ago. It was a well-made kit. Things fit together really well and the knife functioned great when it was done.
This looks like it would make a better knife for me when it’s done too. That previous generation kit was a lock-back with swappable blades (came with a plain edge and a combo edge). It was a large knife with no pocket clip. I’d probably like this a lot better. The first one was fun and I don’t regret it – but I don’t know if I would buy this for myself again.
