As discussed yesterday, Bosch (our sponsor this week) is holding a special contest where you can win a Bosch GLM 50C laser distance measuring tool package.
Bosch’s contest is on Instagram, and you should enter if you can. Deconstruct your daily tool kit, snap a photo, and tag @BoschtoolsNA and #toolbelttetriscontest in a post by 12/18/19.

BUT, I do know some of you aren’t fans of social media or social media-focused contests. Good news, we’ve got one of these awesome laser distance measuring tools to give away to one lucky ToolGuyd reader.
Not only that, I decided to dig into my secret stash of special giveaway ideas.
The Prize Package
At the heart of the giveaway will be the Bosch GLM 50C laser distance measuring tool, which is modern, accurate, and feature-packed.
14′ 5-3/16″. That’s the length of the hallway outside my office. It was quicker to take the measurement (I used a GLM 20) than to read out the measurement in words.
Tape measures are useful for a lot of things. An open-air measurement spanning nearly 14-1/2 feet? My Stanley 25′ tape measure buckles halfway. I could try to take the measurement along the floor, but why? A tape measure and compact laser distance measuring tool is a great combination.

I’ve been holding onto the Beta bit ratchet set for 6 years, ever since I reviewed it here on ToolGuyd. It’s a quality set for all of your compact or tight quarters fastening needs.
To the left of the LDM is a brand new pair of Engineer Inc scissors, which are among my favorite EDC tools.
Below the Bosch laser measuring tool is an Engineer Inc right angle bit driver kit. It doesn’t ratchet, but it fits in tight spaces – as well as your pocket – and can be used for a range of fastening tasks.
Lastly, the prize package will also include a pair of Victorinox Swiss Army knives – a Tinkerer and a Classic. I bought this pair a while ago, and kept holding onto it for a special giveaway. Well, now’s the time.
Basically, these are some of my favorite tools, tools that I wouldn’t want to be left without.
I have found Bosch laser distance measuring tools to be indispensable over the past few years, for so many very different measuring tasks.

I’m a new homeowner and some of the most invaluable tools I find myself using all the time is my Makita 36v (18v x 2) blower. We have several mature oak trees on our property and without that leaf blower (combined with a Honda lawn mower for mulching) then we’d be buried under a sea of leaves!
On a similar note, I’d love it if there was a quality cordless leaf blower/mulcher combo. All of the cordless blowers I’ve seen don’t come equipped with a built in mulcher.
chad
Happy Holidays!
My current favorite tools are my oscillating multi-tool and my cordless sander. I am a wood worker and enjoy doing light construction projects. I’ve found the multi-tool to be so handy (and safe!) for making small hard to get too cuts, trimming shims without moving them out of position or leaving shards, removing caulk and sealant (using a vibrating scrapper blade) and more!. The cordless sander is just amazing in that I have not noticed a bit of performance hit from going cordless over corded. It has a long battery life, sands as aggressive or more then my old sanders and not having to chase the cord is a godsend.
Jon
What a great looking set of handy tools! I still have my Swiss Army knife from 40 years ago — this one would be great for my daughter. The Twin Wrench driver would be *mine* — look perfect, and I’ve got nothing like it right now. Those scissors would be wonderful for EDC! Fingers crossed — I’d love to win!
And…btw, loving getting ToolGuyd in my inbox. One of the few routine emails I look forward to. Thanks!
Chachi_JS
I’m a Jack of all Trades, Master of None… However, I’m rarely without one of my DeWalt Impact Wrenches. Absolute necessity around the farm here in Iowa. Plus i have helped countless people quickly change tires on the side of the road by having this handy!
Max Musial
My most invaluable tool is my Leatherman Wave. I have had it since highschool and carry it with me everyday. It may not always be the best tool but it saves me a lot of time instead of constantly having to go find somthing.
Adam
I would use the Bosch laser for measuring houses for my job (residential remodeling)
Those things are indispensable for measuring long distances, or around customers furniture.
Tommy
My most favorite/indispensable tools are what I carry everywhere. My Leatherman Wave, a 4 inch Crescent wrench, and my Streamlight microstream flashlight. I use these on an almost constant basis, at my job, home, and on the go.
Rik
I am going to be involved in building a home for the 1st time. Any type of tool would be well used and appreciated. My son and I built a wood shed 2 years ago and did it right. It was the 1st time for me building anything like that and I caught the “building /construction bug! My favorite tool was the table and miter saws.
Chad
Always enjoy using my snap-on ratchet screwdriver had it since i was 18 working for a car audio shop and still use it just about everyday and my everyday carry leather man skeletool one of the best used tools i have
been looking at the bosch laser measure tool for a bit would be cool to win this
Tam
You can never have too much tools! I always wanted a laser measuring device but never could justify buying one.
Eric H
My most used tool is the Ryobi 18-Volt ONE+ Hybrid 20-Watt LED Work Light. Every project could use more light.
The Bosch Flexi-click has become my favorite drill/driver. The ergonomics are great and the interchangeable heads are fantastic for aligning the bit and screw to prevent cam out.
schill
Thanks for running a non-social-media contest.
I’ve been using a version of the Tinker for EDC for years. It includes scissors and pliers. The pliers, even though they are small, have been extremely useful. My original was confiscated by TSA (I didn’t have time to go back out of security to do something with it). I ordered a new one while waiting at the gate for my flight.
About the only other thing I carry in my pockets these days is a small flashlight (and pen, etc.).
The backpack has a variety of Were drivers (EDC and varying depending on what I think I’ll run into). The Kompakt 25 and a Bitcheck are always there.
I’ve had those engineer scissors in my Amazon cart off and on for a while (since reading about them here). It would be nice to have a pair.
The current favorite tools around home are Bosch 12v: Flexiclick, PS22, FL12, jig saw, and reciprocating saw.
John
Couldn’t do without my Klein 11-in-1 screw driver or Knipex pliers wrench.
Thebear Koss
I’m the same. The klein 11 in 1 is a life saver, I’m lost without 1 in my pocket.
Ryan M
As you can imagine, renovating your house comes with its challenges, especially when you are doing it on off hours after work. Like you mentioned above, the 25 ft tapes don’t make it easy on you when you’re trying to get a measurement that’s not on the floor.
The GLM 50C would come in super handy for me, especially since it would keep me from having to utter the dreaded words “Hey honey, can you come and help hold this for a second?”
Diamond Dave
My favorite EDC tool is a pen. Without it I am lost. I hate having to ask someone to borrow their pen when I misplace mine which I now carry 4-5 in my tool box.
Luie
My always “go to” tool in the bag seems to be a pair of 7″ linesman pliers. My latest favorite tools come in as a wera screwdriver set deal I found via toolguyd and the Milwaukee fuel blower for the back patio. Love the reviews, deals, and honest opinions here. Thanks!
Joe
The one tool that I have that always seems to be in my pocket is a PocketwrenchII . It has proven to be pretty handy . I have been working on industrial woodworking machinery for over 30 years and find myself reaching in my pocket for this tool a lot.
Love the small tools in this giveaway. Keep up the good work
Michael
As of last night my favorite tool is a Bosch GLL55.
Used it to hang a bunch of shelves in the garage and just happy how well it worked. Its nothing specific about the GLL55, however, just never had used the self – leveling laser levels before.
Marc
My most used and favorite power tool is a Milwaukee 4V Screwdriver (mod 0490-20). I’ve had it for years and use it all the time. Next would be a Dewalt DCD791 Brushless Drill, I really like the way it feels good balance and enough power for almost everything I do. Finally, I just bought a Milwaukee M12 Crown Stapler which I used for one project and it was great. I have another project I’ve been putting off were I’ll be stapling over head and I no longer have an excuse to procrastinate. The screwdriver predates my reading ToolGuyd, but it was instrumental in my selecting the Dewalt Drill and the Stapler. Thanks.
Marko
I am putting my house for sale and I wanted to attach the floor plan to the listing. A device like Bosch GLM 50C will greatly simplify the task.
Cory Graves
As a sparky my most invaluable tool are my Knipex linesman pliers, and my Wiha trim screwdriver.
DaveZ
Hey, I definitely have a legitimate need for this giveaway! My daughter is getting married this Spring and we will have to set up a bunch of tables for the reception. She’s a little OCD and what better way to line up all those tables perfectly than a Bosch Blaze GLM 50C LDM? I can then give all these great gadgets to my future son-in-law so that he can be the new family handyman!
Mosh
My most indispensable tool is probably my leatherman wave.. (flashlight, phone)
The GLM50C would make my estimates easier…
Thanks!
KevinL
DeWalt 12v flashlight and Klein 11/1. that’s why i have a “few”.
Josh
They measure so far.
One hundred sixty-five feet.
No tape can compare.
DK
weekend warrior. love my bosch 18v cordless drill set. dropped it off a 2nd story roof onto the driveway and kept going like nothing happened.
GML
That is very impressive, would make for a great advertising campaign.
Paul D
I’m currently working in a few retail stores in a very large mall on the east coast. (One store is a Legoland!) I do a lot of layout work and could really benefit from a laser. Using a tape measure that flops after 10 feet, while on a lift can get frustrating at times..
I could also really use one of those ratcheting sets. It would have helped me on my last job installing ticket machines and gates at the airport.
Cheers,
Paul D.
Patrick
Count me out. I just wanted to say thanks for doing a giveaway.
jdd561
My favorite tools have to be my cordless Milwaukee 12v collection – heated jacket, impact driver, and hammer drill. Big power, small size – easy to carry and finagle into places my 20v DeWalts just won’t go. The jacket is great for icy Kansas wind, and is pretty warm even when it isn’t turned on.
Florian
Right now my favorite tool is my m12 surge driver. I needed some batteries and it was almost a wash to buy it in a set. It replaced my fuel m12 impact which I use daily.
I hoped for it to be an upgrade but I didn’t expect it to be such a pleasure to use. Low noise and a nicer torque feedback for some reason.
Merry Christmas
csroc
Lately the tool I like the most is my DeWalt inflator. It helped out on a recent road trip and in general has made topping off tires way less of a chore.
After that I put my Wiha precision tools to a lot of use over the years, they were a good investment.
Jared
Ooo. I haven’t seen the Beta bit ratchet before. Quite handsome.
My favorite tool is the ToolGuyd-made-infamous Knipex Pliers wrench. Specifically my 125mm version (though I also like my 10′ quite a lot). It’s amazing how many uses I can find for it when it’s bombing around in my pocket all the time.
My second favorite is my Wurth/Zebra bit ratchet. It’s small, rubber-handled, low-profile and tough. It works great.
Third… Hmm. There’s lots of good candidates, but none stick out so obviously as the first two (which I use constantly). Perhaps my Nitecore EC4s – a 2250 lumen flashlight I use a lot in the winter. It’s crazy bright, pretty long lasting and comfortable to hold.
GML
Fantastic giveaway. I already have a Bosch GLM-42 so no need to have me participate. Just wanted to say thanks for doing this along with everything else you do.
Rory
Just bought a new house this past summer. The laser measurement tool would certainly help with getting the lumber cut for the walls I need to put up in the unfinished basement.
Rob H
Bosch goes the distance
Measuring with Laser beams
Accuracy wins
MT_Noob
My latest favorite tool just arrived two days ago. It is the Bosch FlexiClick. I just used it to install drawers into a cabinet and it allowed me to drive in screws perfectly that I would have otherwise had to drive in at an angle. My only regret is not ordering one sooner.
NCD
Worked in construction most of my life, now retired……… but still need to fix/repair issues at home and the old homestead. I can see where I probably would use any or all of those you have listed. Thank you for this opportunity.
William Adams
My most frequently used tool which I most enjoy using is a Silca T-ratchet and Ti Torque Kit — I love how the parts snap together and can be customized for pretty much any task, the O-rings on the handle parts add wonderfully to the grip and tactility.
The bits are great quality, and the pouch is just wonderful. I’ve accessorized it with an assortment of bits, as well as adapters and sockets — it gets used for pretty much any project which needs mechanical work/adjustment.
Seth Goodson
I have a small construction business. I am a one man band majority of the time, which my dad helping me occasionally. Having a Blaze measuring tool would make estimates go much quicker. Sometimes you just need someone else to hold the end of the tape. Or would be great if measuring off a ladder. Would stream line my estimates and save valuable time.
Thank you for the great giveaway. No matter who the winner is, it is a awesome!!
Mike McDermot
There once was a gadget so boss
It could only be from the people at Bosch
It’s laser was fast
Measured a distance so vast
With out it my life is a loss
Wade Bantz
Winning the Bosch laser measuring device may help save my marriage so my wife and I don’t argue over who gets to use the one that I have when we work on projects! ha ha. It is so useful! With regards to my most used tool it is my Swiss Army knife! My wife gave me one 34 years ago that I wear on my belt daily! Although its my primary you can never have enough of them. Lastly, those scissors look like they would be a great addition to my scuba diving kit 🙂
John Neitzey
I am a retired auto mechanic, who’s now playing around with wood working. Still not sure what will be my most used tool there. But as a tech one of my favorite tools was and is a Powerprobe. I can diagnose almost any electrical concern with that( non computer issues anyway), My EDC knife is my leatherman Skeltool. I love it, I have carried a pocket knife most of my life at this point, and this is far and away my favorite.
Blythe
I’ve only had it for a few weeks, but the m18 surge has been an absolute game changer for me, and I hate that word ordinarily. The sound you hear on video doesn’t accurately represent how quiet this thing is compared to a traditional impact
shawn slater
Milwaukee fast back utility knife. Carry it everyday and use it more than anything I own.
David Deray
This measuring tool is so cool. I didn’t even know such a thing existed. This can definitely be useful for when im doing flooring!
mattd
My most used tool is probably my vise. It is one of the head spinning multi vises. It was a gift from my dad, survived a shed fire, and is still going strong.
BuildingMech
A great tool for opening boxes from online retailers is a corrugated cardboard cutter (cutting knife). It features a nonstick coating that prevents the adhesive tape from sticking on the blade surface.
John Blair
My favorite tool right now is a socket set that combines both metric and imperial sockets from Wera along with the cool Zyklop wrench. I 3d printed my own magnetic case. Sure, I don’t use it that often, but I can always find any socket and I get to show off for fun.
Paul D
I want that wrench in the worst way. LoL
Kenneth Stephens
Probably one of my most indispensable tools is the gearwrench micro driver. Love that thing
Dominic
Need my Knipex pliers. I want the Bosch LDM because I want to minimize my tools to be more efficient. Less weight is one of my biggest concerns. I want to pair the Bosch LDM with maybe a smaller and lighter measuring tape.
Weston
Right now my favorite tool is my Bosch oscillating tool. Especially to make plunge cuts in sheet rock. The versatility of the tool is amazing, Used in the right application it can cut, scrape or sand. It has enough reach to get where you need it.
I could use any of the tools in this GAW or give them to my sons.
BlueCraft Workshop
Woodworker for 15 years here.
My most used tools:
– A good pencil! I like mirado black warriors.
– My ratcheting screwdriver; it’s a wera with integrated rapidaptor chuck. I love that thing.
– 16′ stanley fatmax tape measure
– 12″ steel shinwa rigid rule
– 12v drill driver
Almost every simgle project uses these things. I’d use the 50C to finish up renovating my mancave, then probably give it to my pop. He’d have more use for it than me.
Thanks for the giveaway!
Bobby
My favorite EDC tools are my Victorinox recruit (love how thin it is in my pocket), Kershaw RJ Martin tactical 3.0 knife, and my Streamlight microstream AAA flashlight. The recruit has most tools I use except scissors and a phillips screwdriver, but I have a super tinker if I need those. The RJ Martin 3.0 is my favorite Kershaw out of the many I have due to the size for EDC, buttery smooth opening, and it has a flipper. The microstream is the smallest, lightest flashlight I’ve seen, and bright enough for my uses. Small and portable is much better than bulky and bright for me.
Luke Schwartz
My Dewalt 20v MAX XR Variable Speed Impact Driver with Bluetooth is just the best! I use it all day every day.
Daniel Lindley

I’m lazy, dammit.
Go downstairs? No! Leatherman!

Near, far, in-between.
A precise measuring tool.
Press a button – done.
Gordon Brown
ChannelLock ratcheting screwdriver with bits is my favorite tool.
EM Rite
a smart man without a tool

toolguyd is awesome,
informative, wholesome
Please send me something cool!

No stories, haiku or poetry. Nope. And I didn’t enter my address.
Stuart I’m just glad you’ve become such a fun and integral part of all of our tool centric lives.
So Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and all the rest.
Stuart
Thank you, likewise!
Your comments and contributions over the years have always been appreciated.
In looking back at just how long you’ve been a reader (community member?), I found one of your first from 2013: https://toolguyd.com/5-lowes-kobalt-disappointments-2013/#comment-188735

Nathan
my most common EDC tool – My Smartphone – specifically an LG V40. But it’s the apps that are important here. so Smart Tools on android, real calc (scientific calc), Excel, and of course internet connection. OH and when working on a car occasionally I use Torque Pro but usually I get my laptop out there for car diagnostics. Seriously I find I use it to magnify labels, or I’m taking a picture of something, looking up a video, searching for a part or item I need. all mid project.
Now next item of use – Pentel 0.5 and 0.7 mm mechanical pencils. I keep a few around.
After those items it greatly depends on the project.
Now how would i use the Bosch distance finder – I’m planning an addition to my upstairs and it would be right handy figuring out layout and estimating. I’ve looked at laser distance machines for a while but never seem to grab one.
Thank you for the giveaway
Dorin Matney
My current favorite is my oscillating tool, but I’m no fool. Being able to measure without asking her favor – well that would be huge.
Etienne
Hard to think of my favorite tool since it changes depending upon whatever I am tinkering with at the time. For right now, I would say the lovely Wera hex key set (metric) that is color coded and perfect for tinkering with all the hex bits on a bicycle. Second would be the assorted Bosch 18V drills and impact wrenches I use around the house (yes, two of each since I managed to score them cheap, mostly for the batteries, and so I could put some offspring to use at the same time!).
Jesse T
Favorite tool would be quite a tossup.
Love my M18 Milwaukee impact driver but while working alone it’s hard to beat Irwin quick-grips. It’s like having another set of hands around.
Jason Letanosky
We’ve moved into a new (to us) house, and many of these tools would make life much easier when it comes to the”honey do” list.
Bill K
My favorite of all is my 12v drill by Bosch
Yes, Stuart led me to this favorite find, by gosh
For the best info & bargains, ToolGuyd beats all
If you look elsewhere you will take a fall!

I’m a jerk I mean JACK of all trades – my every day job covers everything from plowing and heavy equipment operation, to mechanics, welding, plumbing, grounds maintenance, fabrication, and a fair amount of pencil pushing. I use a LOT of different toold, but the 2 tools I use every single day and am never without are my Surefire flashlight and my Kershaw knife. Both are well over a decade old and get used every day.
William
Thanks so much for the chance. I am a hobbyist woodworker with 4 small children, so I don’t get much time in the shop. Favorite tool has got to be the Festool Domino. It has elevated my work to a super high level. Before this I was using a Kreg Pocket Jig, which I still use on occasion, but the Domino has taken all my projects to the next level. Super easy and FAST to get fantastic results.
KG
I wouldn’t want to be without my leatherman wingman. It’s the good-enough tool when the “right” tool is too far away so I’ve got one in each our our cars along with a led flashlight. Now that new free is a tempting upgrade.
As for the Bosch laser, I’d love to try one out and see if it can really replace a tape for all those good-enough measurements around the house where getting within a 1/16 should be fine.
Ian
A standard Leatherman juice S2. Having pliers and a screwdriver can get you out of so many situations. upgrading to to something like the Wera Tool Check Plus + 2 Knipex pliers wrenches or similar would be the next upgrade of functionality.
lost in space
My most used tool is my leatherman supertool carried for 30 yrs with my makita 18v impact the bosch would be great have not made the transition from tape measure yet.
Gman
I have had the Craftsman 19.2 tools since they were announced and they are still going strong. I do a lot of woodworking so I took the plunge into the Bosh 12V line of products for two main reasons. Size and Brushless. I have been extremely happy with these, they have as much power as the old Craftsman do, with the exception of the impact wrench and the 1/2″ drive drill/driver. They are small, powerful and light. They are really helpful when assembling drawers with tight spaces. I only wish I would have bought them sooner. I take them everywhere there is work to be done. The 2AH battery last a very long time. I find myself looking for ways to use them. I can imagine the Lazer tape measure would be invaluable in measuring for cabinets, just haven’t been able to justify one yet.
Popgun42
I have used 18 volt tools for a long time, as I get older I managed to get 2 Bosch 12 volt tools. My old hands sure do like them. It would be enjoyable to get to use a Bosch laser measure tool. I still use a lot of hand tools, I watched my dad use manual hand tools.
Grady
With the Beta Bit Ratchet and the Engineer Twin Wrench Driver, i could build a race car. (Well, maybe a model one.) I could take those two tools with me to my project and not have to worry about if i got the right bit. The older I get the shorter my memory gets.
My best pair of scissors and Swiss Army Knife got pilfered several years ago and I’ve just been getting by with HF stuff. Would like to replace them with QUALITY.
I’ve been trying to layout some new features around the yard with a Stanley 16 ft Powerlock. We ha to have our house appraised and the guy came out and measured the outside and every room inside using a Bosch LDM quicker than I could do the exterior with my Stanley. GOT TO HAVE ONE!!!
TonyT
The hand tools I’ve had the longest (>20 years) and still use often are my Wiha precision screw drivers and Bondhus ball end hex wrenches.
Newer products I’d like to highlight are (yet again) the Bosch Flexi-Click combined with a Wiha 1/4″ to 4mm adapter, which works pretty well for electrical screw driving, my Makita LXT track saw, and my iWiss SN-01BM crimpers, the first affordable crimpers I’ve found that can handle smaller pins such as Molex Micro-Fit Jr and HD D-Sub.
Fred Smith
I have always used the tools past down to me from my father and grandfather (50 years) to handle most of the jobs around the house. I now find that I must modernize my tool kit so I can handle the anything that comes up. I have always been a Craftsman man, but need to move on.
Avi
A Stanley 4 in 1 pocket screwdriver, it looks like a pen and is just so often comes in handy.
Adabhael
Indispensable is probably my Wave tool: I bought it in junior year, and well it is often not the very best tool for any job, it is the tool I almost always have. The Airport-friendly Style PS fills in the gaps in my life when I cannot carry a blade.
Dan
Some over 25 yrs. ago, that Red Swiss army knife, removed a bunch of wire and twine that had wrapped around the pickup driveshaft seal. I was around 200 miles from home and it was the only tool of any sort that I had with me. So very thankful
that it did the job. Simply seeing the picture of the knife this afternoon reminded me of that night on the highway.
Chris
Love my m12 fuel impact gun nice and small with plenty of power
Zach Hunt
My most used and probably favorite tool is my 20v DeWALT 1/4” impact. I use them multiple times daily. I also, have a first generation Bosch laser measure (can’t remember the model off the top of my head) that I’ve been desperately needing to replace due to it being completely worn out from so much use. I’d be ecstatic to win this new one since I can’t seem to decide which one I’d like to replace my old one with.
Tom D
My most indispensable tool is my Leatherman – because it’s always on me. The tool in hand is worth two in the bag as it were.
Jon Strong
Hard to pick a favorite! Love my Makita XDT16 impact driver… love my Makita 36-volt 10″ dual bevel compound sliding miter (brilliant!). Love my Knipex pliers wrench. There are others in the shop, but these are probably my favorites.
Scott F
My favorite tool is by far my Milwaukee fuel blower. I didn’t realize there are so many ways to make life easier/neater by having a lightweight blower handy almost any time. Milwaukee knocked it out of the park on the ergonomics of their tools…
Craig
Easily my leatherman. It’s on me at all times.
Eric Fussenegger
I am a professional remodeler and 2 of my favorite \ most used tools are my Bosch 12v Drill and impact driver. Their small size and light weight make them a joy to use. I don’t miss my full size Dewalts at all!
Tom
Ratcheting screwdriver for me
Christian F
My most invaluable tools are pretty simple, but amazingly handy and always within arm’s reach – telescopic magnetic and a pocket screwdriver!
AC
Feeling lucky. My favorite tool is a Wera Bitcheck. Great to have a full selection of nice quality buts in such a small organized package. That with a hand driver or bosch driver and you’re good to go!
bigiron
My favorite tool is my EDC Leatherman Micra. It is with me all the time and I miss it when I have to fly. It has everything you need and has nothing you don’t it is lightweight and simple.
Scott K
This is a toss up between my Leatherman wingman and my Bosch impact driver. this driver has been indispensable since moving into our house. With that said,I typically have the Leatherman on me and so it’s seen a huge amount of use over the past 5 or so years.
I’d love this LDM for around the house measurements. We’re getting ready to replace some flooring and do some repainting so this would make the estimation quicker and probably more enjoyable. Also- the other pieces of the giveaway are awesome and just as exciting to me.
Bill
My favorite tool is my wera multi bit screw drivers. It’s compact and strong. But… I also love my led 12v rover light from Milwaukee. It’s my go to light. The battery lasts for hours.
Chung Ying
Never used a laser distance measurer before. Pretty sure it’ll be handy for measure floor plan in the house for renovation or furniture placements.
My favorite tool the knipex long nose pliers. Used it all the time like it’s an extension of my finger tips.
Glenn Underwood
It is very difficult to choose a favorite tool, but if I have to pick one it is probably my Dewalt impact driver. I am currently enjoying my Proto ratcheting wrenches. If I win the Bosch GL50C it will not only allow me to measure without a tape, my cat will love it because she likes to chase the red dot.
James
I find my multitools made by Leatherman, Gerber, and Sog to be my favorite and most used tools. My Leatherman Micra with scissors I find to be my most indispensable tool because I use it all the time.
Rich S.
My favorite tool is my Ullman N-3 screw starter. Most people have no idea what it is until they see me use it. Then they have to have one.
Matt S
I would certainly measure everything in sight, if measuring involved a laser!
I have been eyeing that Beta set since you reviewed it, too: sweet.
Andrew
The smaller Milwaukee fastback utility knife. Easy to carry, one handed operation
Andrew Catron
My Bosch 3 plane laser level is by far my favorite tool. I would put the laser distance meter to good use since I work in a cabinet shop and am responsible for field dimensions! Our old distance meter has seen better days but I can’t get the boss to pickup a new one!
Rocky
One of my most used tools for inside the house work is a Zebralight 16850 floody headlight. I always seem to be in a situation where the lighting is poor, and it just works perfectly for a 2-6ft area in front of you. I beat the heck out of it, and it looks almost brand new, great product.

My current laser measurer is almost kaput. I use it multiple times a week to measure square footage for jobs, and this one is much more advanced than the present one I have. It’d definitely cut down some time in our bidding process!

Ridgid 18v brushless power tools have to be the best bang for the buck for the above average DIYer and I’ve had nothing but postive interactions with the LSA program. Also the Lenox gold/white utility knife is the best I’ve used (and I’ve tried them all)…their blades are worth the extra cost.

My favorite tool is my mind, I love problem-solving living in a house built before 1880 I get a lot of prolem solving to do. Some tool make it easier some make it frustrating like using a tape measure over your head it always bends just as you get to get a measurement.

Leatherman Wave is my longest lasting favorite tool. Been carrying one for 20 years now. Hard to beat for size features and durability. Another would be a Stanley 6″ low angle block plane. I used to thunk planes were a bit silly with modern power tools, but really having one of these sharp and handy is surprisingly useful.

Awesome group of swag. I work in the film industry and have three sets of tools;
My kit (big rigid 4 piece storage) full of heavy cordless and corded power tools, odds (punches, metal sheets, extensions) and ends (lock, blue box, and light switch templates) massive tape roll collection (diff colors gaffing, duct tape, electric, paper tape, silicon tape, various double sided),
My big go bag full of smaller ends and odds, hanging kit, small rigging kit, small electric kit, small pry bar, cordless driver with spare batteries and charger, various hand drivers, etc etc
And a hip sack made by Local hardware that contains a bit selection, multitool (Gerber centerdrive), spare bits, a 6-1 screwdriver, my Kindle, level, measuring tape, and spare sharpie.
This giveaway would go in the hop sack to to be carried on set and on stage when working. Would help consolidate and lighten my load considerably. In turn making me a bit more efficient not having to dig around in a tiny for bits and a driver.

My most useful tool, I think, is my Veto Pro Pac tool bag. That’s what makes me efficient – all the tools, together, ordered/organized so I know what I have and where to grab it, moving it zipped closed assures me that things aren’t being lost, is a real key to getting stuff done. And the vertical organization not only helps get to the right tool in a hurry, it also helps me avoid losing/misplacing items on a job site too.

In the new year my wife and I will be purchasing a new home, not sure where as we are looking at a few cities that we like. I have been contemplating getting a Bosch LMT for the last month or so as a very good friend of my who is a finish carpenter says he carries one and uses it to take first measurements when he works on large room projects. I am a user of Bosch tools with their 12V drill and impact driver kit plus several impact rated driver bit kits.
As for the other tools in this great prize package, the beat ratchet kit will help with maintaining my bicycles, Engineers scissors are great for so many things in the garage, the Engineering right angle tool is perfect for the hard to reach stuff on my electronics around the current home and even more so for the next one and who could not happily use the Swiss Army knives for EDC.
Keep up the great reviews and these amazing give aways too.

Bosch makes tools of blue.
I really like them, yes I do.
Winning would be grand.

I’m a commercial glazier by trade and my most indispensable tool is a UHMW plastic block with a wedge cut on one end. It can be used as a beater block, to jack heavy sheets of material or doors. I’ve even used the wedge to retrieve my keys from a locked car
Sean
Most indispensable is what’s at my hip, a SOG powerassist multi tool, an olight i3t aa flashlight, and a Fisher bullet space pen, all in a SOG belt clip.

Thanks for doing this giveaway.
My most indispensable tool is actually my old Shopsmith. I have a small workshop and the I use this thing all the time, it’s not a great table saw but I have a track saw for that, for everything else it’s pure gold. It’s indispensable because without it I don’t think I could do the type of woodworking I do in the space I have. Actually the Shopsmith is maybe the most indispensable, but my favorite tool is actually my Flex HEPA vac which I found out about thanks to you! It’s made a huge difference in dust control when sanding.

My favorite tools are a set of Makita power tools I bought a year ago, that’s to Stuart’s recommendations on this very site. I’ve added to the collection since then, but I’ve been a reader ever since.
So far, I’ve used them to renovate a 1940’s house my wife and I bought, and my favorite project so far has been designing and doing built-in beds for the kids in the Cape Cod upstairs bedroom.

KU say In 2016 I discover ToolGuyd and started a tool collection. American,German,Japanese and a few made in China from HD . My Bosch miter saw is cool. I just like the way it transform before and after a cut.
John
My most indispensable tool is probably youtube/the internet. I work a white collar job and don’t come from a background of DIY, so acquiring the knowledge of how to do stuff has been way more important to me than any specific tools (although the tools help too).
Jim Holmes
I am recently in the market for a new measuring tool as just last week my son thought it belonged with him during bath time. It was an older Ryobi Sonic measure tool that had some good years. I haven’t really had time to look at my next replacement but maybe it’s time to upgrade to a Bosch laser unit. 🙂

Most indispensable tools? Just picked up the Knipex needle nose combination pliers, which are a great, compact EDC. These, plus a solid knife, trump a multitool any day. Really indispensable? A solid pencil – right now I’m carrying the Autopoint Jumbo All-American in 0.9mm.
Jerrod
Leatherman Wave is my most used tool, comes in handy just about every day.
Mark Morrison
I do mostly mechanic type work and my most indispensable tool is a Plomb socket set that I inherited from my Father’s uncle. It is from the ’40s and is marked “war finish”. With many tools, I find the quality of the old tools is much better than some of the newer stuff.
Adam B
Step dad got me into tools and woodworking, and he’s a big Bosch guy. This would definitely go to him.

I have carried a Victorinox Swiss Army Tinkerer for about 30 years. Got it replaced several times but lost it a while back, not sure why I have not replace it yet. Very handy knife. Being chosen as the lucky one for these tools would be awesome. I don’t recall ever winning anything, I digress.
Tim
My most indispensable tool is my hammer drill, but it isn’t the hammer drill I use, it is the drill with clutch that I use most often. I put a metal roof on my home, and then helped a friend put one on his home, and now my dad and brother want one on their home. If you put those screws in too loose, they leak. If you put them in too tight, the washers degrade and they leak. With the clutch set after some trial and error it makes it fool-proof and quick.
Use a laser when you measure,
When accuracy is paramount,
It’s a time saving endeavor,
Just pull your trusty laser out,
Across the room, Along the fence,
There’s no limit to construction,
Unless you lack common sense,
And disregard obstructions
Michael Jamison
The laser measure has definitely has made laying out a room or house much faster and also easier especially by yourself. They are a tool that you don’t realize how handy they are until you get one. Thanks for the chance to win this one!

My newest, most indispensable tool, is actually my new toolbelt.
Had a generic leather carpentry one with many pockets, from way back when, good for carpentry but rather bulky and dangerous in tight spaces, flopping against finished items, … became disused compared to pants and shirts with many pockets.
Picked up a new synthetic one recently with several job specific / task pouches and a compact drill holster. Put on as many modules as you want / need and be more productive. Especially loving the compact drill holster.
BrianM
While the tool I use is dependent upon the task. The tool I use the most is the Olfa XA-1 Utility Knife (9mm blade). The black coated blades are sharp and last quite a while. I usually use it a number of times a day and have multiple knives located around the house so when I need one I can readily get to it.
In addition to the knife my most other used (indispensable tools) are a ruler and a mechanical pencil. I use them continually for measuring, layout and other uses across a broad spectrum of tasks/jobs.
Tim C
I’ve got a wiha anti static bit holder with torx and phillips and flat head bits attached to it I picked up some years ago that I started carrying on me because of how frequently I found myself going looking for it. It’s that and my benchmade 940 that I end up needing as soon as I don’t have with me!

My most indispensable tool is my my carabiner with a built in knife. The blade is only about 3.25″ inches, but since I use it to hold my keys, I always have it and don’t have to worry about loosing an extra item in my pocket. I like it so much, I’ve given it as presents.

Classic Kitchens of Virginia
I’m a Kitchen and Bath Designer/Contractor.
After 16yrs on the job, I’ve yet to find a tape the can reach behind a refrigerator across a countertop, past a range, and over to the adjacent wall without knocking over every spice and oil in the way. Unlike a flooring contractor, I measure to the 1/16″ for design/cabinet work. These laser devices started off horribly inaccurate and thus were of no use. After playing around with a coworker’s I now see they can be dead on accurate. The convenience of measuring walls with existing cabinetry and overall room dimensions would make it a worthy addition to my daily carry bag. I’m old school and still rely on a folding wooden rule for most situations….so yea, showing up with a new shiny laser would be…well legit StarWars like. #JediDesigner

I decided to list a few tools that often find their way into my hand or kit because they provide unmatched utility when considering their their size/weight. Many have been discussed here before, and there’s a reason for that, but they’re worth mentioning again in this context.
• Klein (32500) 11-in-1 Screwdriver: There aren’t many jobs that involve fasteners that this thing can’t handle. It allows fast and straightforward bit changes, is strong and durable, and the handle/grip is comfortable and allows a tremendous amount of torque to be applied…and the bits don’t slip!
• Knipex (86 03 250) 10″ Pliers Wrench: Lots-o-fans here for this one and for good reason. I challenge anyone to try this tool and not want more Knipex tools after experiencing the quality and innovation. It single-handedly replaces literally pounds and pounds of combination wrenches and is immeasurably more durable (and far less frustrating) than classic adjustable wrenches. If you want two, just tell Santa you need the SAE version as well as the metric version.
• CH Hanson (03040) Magnetic Stud Finder: Some may scratch their head over this one, but on average this is one of the most reliable stud finders out there. When you factor in how small it is, how simple it is to use, and the fact that it doesn’t need batteries, it easily earns it’s way onto this list. And on top of that, you get the bonus of having a level, a magnet to hold up documents/instructions/drawings/etc., and if you add a string or stick you have a quick-and-dirty retrieval tool.
• OLFA (1072198) LA-X 18mm Heavy-Duty Utility Knife: Got one of these from the promo they ran on ToolGuyd and I’m so glad I did. I always swore by the Stanley ‘classic’ utility knife but this thing made me change my mind. It’s ridiculously sharp, the snap-away blade is so fast and easy and gives you more ‘on-board’ blade changes, and there’s always myriad uses for the pry tool on the handle.
It’s actually quite amazing what you can accomplish with just these 4 tools. Using the metric of ‘most utility for size/weight’ what other tools should be on the list?
Nate
I need that blaze to measure baseboard!

One of my favorites EDC’s is a Pentel P209 0.9mm mechanical pencil. These things are super cheap and the 0.9mm is a great size for note writing, as well as making markings on wood – especially in the woodwooking side, where you want a fairly precise marking implement. I’ve also got a Craftsman 9-4160 wallet driver, and a flashlight or headlamp on me almost anytime.
I’m a hobbyist — my day job is in software, so most of my EVERY DAY tools are digital, but I do love getting time in the shop to build something that is a bit less abstract than software. The laser measure seems like it would be SUPER useful in taking quick measurements to design custom cabinets, and making sure other woodworking pieces will fit.
Jon
@Joel –
Many years ago I wouldn’t leave the house without a Pentel 0.5mm mechanical pencil in my pocket. I used it every day, from taking notes in school to architectural drawings – in preference to sandpaper-sharpened drafting pencils, and later on in work meetings, to sketching out software architecture and data models, taking notes and more. I had a few of the cheaper ones, but my all-time favorite was the Pentel Kerry Pencil — wonderful instrument! You can still get this same one today – the first I owned was probably more than 30 years ago (maybe 40?!?). Here it is:

As a matter of fact…my wife was just asking me what “Santa” might bring me this year…

How about my favorite ratchet? It’s a 3/8″ Blackhawk freewheeling ratchet from circa 1950, has one of the smallest 3/8″ ratchet heads I’ve seen, and is tough as they come.
Conor Galligan
Is it far away?
I am honestly not sure.
A laser would help!

Some of my most used tools in my tool bag as of late are my Dewalt Impact Driver, my Stanley FatMax tape, and my trusty Swanson speed square. After that, it all depends on the project of the day.
Jingleheimer
Without a doubt for me its my Victorinox Tinker Delux. I use those tiny pliers and philps head screw driver more times in a pinch then I can count! Would be nice to have its little brother to keep in my work bag!
Siena Fath-azam
Honestly my favorite tool right now has to be my M18 fuel chainsaw. The stupid gas saw just wouldn’t start in the cold and it starts first time, every time.

Thanks for offering up the contest with such an interesting mix of tools!
Favorite tool: Milwaukee fastback 2 utility knife. So fast to deploy and close, extra blade storage, ergonomic, solid metal frame. It’s a joy to use.
2nd place the Wiha 1m composite folding rule. It’s a pleasure to work with, lightweight, rigid but flexible and portable.
As for the GLM 50c, I own the GLM 40 and enjoy it. My favorite Bosch tool. I was in the market to upgrade into the Stabila laser measurer strictly for the ability to transfer measurements to my phone via Bluetooth. But after learning of the Bosch on this site, the GLM 50c is a much more appealing unit with more features and mature app.
Happy holidays!

My most indispensable tool are the $1 snap-off knives at Home Depot. Sharp, safe, ergonomic, and cheap AF. I use them a million different ways, but most on point, to mark cuts with hand saws or power saws. The mark they leave is precise, highly visible, and indelible. For handsaw cutting, they actually help the cut by providing a guide for one side of the blade. They are also handy for opening boxes, trimming materials, etc. I pick up a few every time I go to HD.

Milwaukee’s M12/M18 lighting systems are carrying the torch for me these days. The rocket towers are great, the M18 site radius, the M18 swivel up/down (?) jobby, and then I’ve got the lantern & spotlight in the M12.
Working on my house a lot these days and those lights are awesome when venturing into the attic and crawlspaces which I find myself doing a lot lately.

I was creating a to-scale floorplan of our home, and bought a Bosch GLM 10 Laser to do the measurements (it was on sale). Inside the house, the 35ft max of the laser was no issue, and it turned a very time consuming and tedious job into a fairly simple task.
With all the measurements in hand, I started entering the data into my floorplan program, and across the span of the house, my measurements only ended up being off by an inch or so (likely due to operator error, or a crooked wall).
We have property, so the longer distance Bosch LDM would be super helpful for estimating fencing, determining tree height, etc..

Essential indispensable tools: headlamp (no name generic), streamight flashlight (1 x aaa), fisher bullet space pen ( for note taking), stanley fatmax tape measure, multibit screwdriver, an artist’s soft graphite pencil for marking and a five gallon bucket for carrying my tools out of the basement to where I’m working on my latest home repair project

Congrats to the winner!

A fun fact about Bosch is that it is largely owned by a charitable foundation. Anyway, my poem:
They came down from Alemannia Nova
Spending their time developing troves of
High quality toolkits, motley in hue
The red ever present, often with blue
The green Bosch tools: Europeans only?
US market, we feel so lonely
Tiny chainsaws sound cool, fun would be great
Other saws exist, still I say “reciprocate!”
Mark M.
My most indispensable tool is my Bosch 181 Hammer/Driver Drill. I’ve used it in every part of my house. Also, my GLM-15 has been amazing, but I could always use an upgrade!

I absolutely love the Bosch GCL 2-120 S! It is by far one of my most useful tools. I install alot of canlights, so i love having the ability to measure and layout everything of the floor and then just project it up, rather than having to measure everything on the ceilings. I also use the vertical and horizontal lines alot for cabinetry and tile work, and combining it with the Bosch Pole System allows me to use this laser pretty much anywhere, as long as the pole can reach the ceiling. By far a superb product.

My favorite tool currently is the Wera Kraftform Kompakt 25 Pouch Set. It is my first German tool purchase that I bought on sale thanks to the timely info of ToolGuyd. Thanks for all the great discussion and information on this site.
Travis Upah
I love my 6″ Vampliers. They’re quickly becoming my go-to pliers for around-the-house type jobs. The fastner grip pattern really helps the grip of the pliers and makes them easy to use.
Alex
My favorite EDC is my Victorinox Huntsman. It’s got enough tools on it to make it useful without being too heavy.
Pat McGuire
My go to tool is my cordless drill. I may use a lot of other tools such as screw drivers, hammers and such but I would be lost without my drill. I make sure to have both batteries charged and ready to go at all times.
james ouzts
The tool I use the most is a grinder. Cut / shape / clean. I’ve got a cordless brushless dewalt that’s incredibly handy. Around the house it’s the cordless shop vac.
