Bosch GTM 12 Professional Combination Saw

Note: This Bosch UK or EU product is not available in the USA.

Bosch’s new GTM 12 Professional miter and table saw combo is a neat design that offers cross-cut and rip-cut capabilities in a single benchtop power tool.

The GTM 12 Professional is essentially a miter saw with a table saw fence attached at the top of the blade. What’s the point of something like this if the table size is so small? The miter saw can be used for cross-cutting operations and the table saw part for rip-cutting.

You won’t be breaking down large sheet goods with the table saw part, but that’s what track saws – which are extremely popular in Europe – are for. The narrow table is still well suited for ripping smaller boards and sheets too small for track saws to safely handle. With track saws, it’s not really feasible to make rip cuts on boards and sheets narrower than the width of the track.

Miter-cutting depth is 95mm (3-3/4″), and table-cutting depth is 51mm (a hair over 2.0″).  The 12″ blade is powered by an 1800W and 4300 no-load RPM motor for fast-cutting. There’s also a built-in worklight and a laser cut-line indicator. The tool weighs in at 22.5 kg (49.6 lbs).

MSRP pricing is GBP 490, or about $785. The saw is available in 240V and 110V versions, but remains exclusive to the UK and EU markets.

If it wasn’t already April 2 at time of your posting, I would have thought this another of your April Fools jokes!

I’ve been reading ancient Fine Woodworking copies on my iPad and noticed a similar tool on sale back in the jan 79 issue. Elu ‘flip flop’ TGS 71. Seems bit Shopsmith – sounds like it might work but rarely works well.

When I saw this on Sunday, I was sure it was an April Fools Gag. It sure would be convenient for small ripping tasks.

It’s definitely real. I first become aware of it when researching Bosch’s new jig saw.

Yep, same design. The Bosch is about $200 cheaper, maybe more, at retail. There’s also a Dewalt flip-saw model, also only available in EU. The design is a bit different, but the basic idea is the same – an almost all-in-one cross-cutting and rip-cutting saw combo.

I absolutely thought this was an April Fool’s joke when I saw it over on HomeFixated. I’m glad you’ve cleared it up as actually real!

Maybe Marc thought it was a joke too, I’m not sure. But the saw exists! (Just not in the USA.)

Wouldn’t mind seeing a flip over saw (like the Makita FL1000) available in the states. This thing, not so much. But it ain’t gonna happen. Why sell us ‘Mericans one tool that does the job, when they can sell us two.

These are in use all over Europe and do quite well. They also used to sell these in the 60’s as I used one as a kid working with my father. I guess they sort of went away and came back. These are great for trim guys for sure, but with a little patience you can build just about anything with these.

How much is this going to cost to ship to the us? I could find a lot of uses for that little guy on jobs that don’t need a table saw to make a few rips. The kind of job where your not going to drag out the table saw so you either rip it at the shop the next day, or try out the skill saw.

I have no idea. You would have to find a retailer willing to ship to the USA, and even then there will be electrical power incompatibilities. With cordless tools, you only need to find the right battery charger. With corded, the plug will need to be changed out, and even with a step-down voltage transformer, the AC frequency differences might be an issue.

Importing this into the USA and adapting it for use with US power outlets is not something I recommend or could assist with.
