We discovered a new Bosch jig saw, the JS572EL (and JS572EBL with barrel grip), that is said to be the new standard in precision. Over in Europe, the new jig saw model will be known as the GST 140 BCE Professional.
Bosch came out with several new jig saws back in October 2010, but it doesn’t look the JS572 is replacing the JS470 – it looks to be a more precise higher-end model. Nevermind that in the Europe the JS470 is the GST 150 and the new higher-priced model is the GST 140.

The new JS572/GST 140 saw is very similar to the JS470 saw, but features a new Precision Control II double-roller system that is said to virtually eliminate blade wandering. A switchable LED light helps illuminate the blade area for greater visibility. And a tool-free die-cast aluminum footplate can be easily adjusted for fast and easy bevel cutting.
There are a number of differences between USA and EU models. Most notably, the EU version features a magnesium base plate instead of aluminum. The USA version is rated at 7.2A, and the EU version 720 W.
Additional features include tool-free blade change, compact and lightweight design, low vibration due to mass balance system, and constant power regulation.
Both USA and EU models come with an L-Boxx, non-marring glide shoe, anti-splinter guard, several jig saw blades, dust hood, vacuum hose adapter, and suction nozzle. The EU version is compatible with Bosch’s guide rails.
Going by UK pricing, we expect the JS572E to be priced around $200.

While a new jig saw may not seem like big news, we’re huge fans of Bosch’s models. Our 1587 saw is still going strong, but we’re growing tired of its older and slower blade-change design.

About a week ago, Parke emailed in, describing problems with a February order for a Bosch 1590 jig saw kit. His distributor recently told him that the 1590 has been discontinued and is being replaced with a new model. As such, Parke’s order is in limbo and he asked for our input about what to do. To help him out, we started digging for info.
So a big thanks to Parke for the email that led us to find out about the new Bosch jig saw!

I see from some of the other tool blogs that Bosch’s new 2102 tool catalog is featuring several new products including a compact miter saw, a new flat surface laser level and a cordless die grinder (looks like the Makita). Most of these I might take a pass on – but considering how much we like our Bosch barrel grip jig saws – I’m anxiously awaiting your next installment on this tool.
BTW – we’ve dedicated a few of the older – slower blade-change saws to work with a Collins Coping foot and a “scroll” blade for molding work.

I think that vacuum hose adapter alone would make my jigsawing far more accurate.

I am saddened to hear the 1590 EVSK is being discontinued. Its what got me into Bosch tools and is everything a jigsaw should be.

I think I can safely say this is my favorite power tool that I own. It puts a smile on my face every time I use it.

I was really getting excited about the new JS572 and agreed to wait for it but they ended up getting a shipment of the 1590EVSL and sent one to me. Although I had gotten my hopes up I am very impressed with the 1590 and I see why so many professionals depend on Bosch Jigsaws. Thanks for all your research and findings Stuart!

That’s great to hear! As mentioned, while the JS572 may be an upgrade, the 1590 has a well-earned phenomenal reputation. That, and there’s no telling when the JS572 may start shipping despite the June/summer 2012 estimates.
I’m always glad to help, and thanks for helping lead to this discovery!

Greetings:
So I was intrigued by this article, finding it to be about the only thing on the Web when you punched JS572E into Google. I looked a bit deeper, and if anyone is interested, the BoschUK site(under industrial tools) has full info on this saw (GST140), including detailed pictures, a manual with B&W closeups, and info. I have yet to purchase a good jigsaw, but have obtained approval from the wife, so I have one shot to get it right. Looking at the UK version of this, it still appears the 1590(1)EVS will be the favorite amongst woodworkers, as the new double roller guide, on first glance, seem like just more of a mediocre thing. Anyway, just sharing info for all those obsessed with getting the “right one” like myself.

GST 140 details
If you look at Bosch’s UK jigsaw page, the 1590 is nowhere to be found.
If you already own a 1590, there probably isn’t enough reason to upgrade to the JS572E/GST 140. But if you need a replacement or first jig saw, be aware that the 1590 might not be available for much longer.

Stuart,
You are absolutely right, and I wasn’t looking for it(1590), so I didn’t find it, or rather not find it. I had better get on the stick for a 1590 or 1591! Have a great day!

That’s actually what brought all this up – supplies of the 1590 kits have been drying up nation-wide. It looks like some distributors received a new shipment this week or last, but they’ll likely sell out quick.

I thought they were just trying to push the L-boxx, because it added several dollars to the price of the “kit” without making any real changes to the saw…I have really never worried about the cases when I’m using a tool, as my job sites are all pretty much here in or around my 130 year old house – plenty to work on. BUT, the woodworking types’ objections I’ve seen to the slightly angled blade trajectory of the JS470 are valid from my POV. Well, anyway, thanks for the real heads up!

I live in the UK, I have just got the New Bosch GST 160. BCE jigsaw ,top off the line, it’s very good, I thing kits better then the Festool carvex.

I have always been a fan of Bosch, but unfortunately, the performance of this jigsaw just did not live up to expectation… Very bad blade wander (using high quality Bosch blades/correct speed etc) on very gentle curves in soft wood 1.5 inches thick, ruined work on a spiral staircase commission, back to using my old compass plane & spoke shave to re true the salvageable work!
Axminster have been very good regarding returning a new jigsaw, ,which, sadly was no improvement, at all. In fairness Bosch did repair the first one (new gearbox cover & sole plate).
Both these were barrel grip versions, it could be a batch issue, so I am going to give Bosch a third try, this time a bow grip (which should be a different batch number)
I’m a professional furniture maker/carpenter/boat repairer.
I will report back,I do hope Bosch take a close & serious look at this, as my 30 year old Bosch jigsaw was a marvel, but like us all has seen better days!Bosch were not interested in the issues I had with this Jigsaw, so have sent it back & gone with the Festool
Jim
For the work you describe, the Mafell P1CC is the ticket. More power and better blade control then the Festool. I still cannot get over the fact you must by a $$$ accessory base and swap the base to make an angle cut with the Festool. And, it angles only one direction, making angle cuts for fitting cutouts impossible. Plus, you cannot reverse the blade and make upward cuts. I have an older FESTO barrel body model and like it. I feel the new Festool missed the mark.
