Bosch has come out with yet another new L-Boxx, the L-Rack, an expandable, stackable, and L-Boxx-compatible rack that can be outfitted with removable organizers or drawers.
It’s no secret, I am deeply fond of Bosch’s L-Boxx modular toolbox system. You can read about why in my complete L-Boxx system review and ToughSystem vs. L-Boxx comparison.

I definitely see appeal in the L-Rack, as it looks to allow for extreme customization and versatility. The beauty is that you can pull out any drawer at any time, without having to first move, separate, or undock the organizers.
There will be a couple of options: you can buy a 3-drawer base unit, which is not meant to be disassembled but can be expanded with additional shelves, or you can build a rack using multiple shelves and a top lid section.
A complete L-Rack unit includes (1) top section, (3) shelves, (1) organizer, (2) thin drawers.
Models and Pricing:

- Complete L-Rack $129
- L-Rack-S shelf, $29
- L-Rack-T lid and top handle, $19
- LST72-OD drawer, $14
- i-Boxx53 organizer $20-30
New i-Boxx53 and i-Boxx72 organizer bin assortments are also available.

I was about to get the 3D model but this looks like it might work better for me.
Stuart
The 3D model seems to be more intended as an all-in-one toolbox plus fastener storage unit, while this is more of a parts center.
I really like the idea of this model, and how drawers can be swapped easily. With other brands’ organizers, convenience starts diminishing when you have more than just a few separate units. I would so very much prefer to deal with one or two of these Racks than say 6 separate organizers.
This reminds me a lot of Durham’s metal drawer organizers, but with far greater portability.
Peter
Good points, I most likely get them both anyway even if I have to buy something to fill them up. 😉

Why not sell these in the US? Why doesn’t Bosch want my money? I assume they have an accounting department that can convert my Dollars to Euros or Pounds or whatever. But no, this fool and his money remains un-parted.

Maybe it takes a while until the boat from Germany arrives in the US 🙂

I’m really torn on these racks. On the one hand, I really want a nice stack or two of just drawers, with no buried compartments. On the other hand, it’s irritating that two of the “s” racks are the same price as the 3D box, but with the 3D you essentially get an extra l-boxx2 on top. It’s hard to justify these vs the 3D.
Stuart
I think that the L-Rack and L-Boxx3D complement each other nicely, especially since the drawers and inserts look to be interchangeable.

True Ryan, but if you bought the complete setup (especially with a $25 off $100 coupon) it becomes a pretty good deal rather than buying individually… and you could just resell the extra tops you wouldn’t want to use if you were going to stack several of the racks…
Stuart
The complete racks are not designed to be disassembled; the top 2 shelves of these units do not feature Click N Go connectivity.
John S
I think you are right where I was wrong regarding not being able to remove the tops without removing the ability to stack something onto it… but I was not saying you would break the l-rack into 3 individual shelves…? I do get your point, though – that only the bottom piece in a complete kit has the red tabs that allow quick connection, whereas the top 2 do not… Which is different from the $36 frame on amazon that does have the red tabs…

There’s an “and” in the title where there should be an “an”, I believe. 🙂
Stuart
Good catch, thanks!
I umm… uh… err… just trying to keep you on your toes. Yes, that’s it! =)

And…. Amazon just canceled my order placed 6 weeks ago, because the product is unavailable. Both of the above links are no longer available for purchase.
Bosch seriously needs to sort out their availability problems if they want to be taken seriously. We’re not really talking about new products here, are we, really? just new to the U.S. everything I’ve see seems to be made up from components that have been manufactured for a while now.
I’m trying very hard to give them my money, and they’re not taking it.
While we’re at it, Bosch, make me some accessory insert kits for the L-BOXX 1. My drill set is great, but half the box is a gaping hole that you could be filling with a nice drillbit / driver / bitset. Support the OCD tool users!!!

After much anticipation, it looks like Ohio Power Tool has the l-rack components in stock. Some of the pricing is lower than the suggested retail we saw, while some are higher. We’ll see how the others play out. Hopefully this means availability should ramp up soon elsewhere. Not sure if this link will work. There’s an l-boxx link off their homepage if it doesn’t.

They’re now available on Amazon too. Their prices are terrible though.
