Discussion
If I didn’t have any laser measuring or leveling tools, this bundle would be extremely compelling.

While the laser distance measuring tool provides more than what I typically need, it does provide area, volume, and addition/subtraction measurements, something that’s lacking in one-button Bosch GLM 20 that’s currently on sale.
If I had to generalize, I’d say that the GLM 165-40 is a “fits the needs of >90% of users” type of laser distance measuring tool. For novice users, it provides room to grow, with features and functions that might be handy in the future.
The GLL 2 is a basic cross-line laser level, but it’s still a self-leveling cross-line laser level. As I wrote in my brief review, it’s a good entry-level model. More features and frills, or a longer range, come at a much higher cost.
There was a somewhat similar deal back in January 2017. Today’s deal features a pricier and longer-ranged laser distance measuring tool, and with a lower price for the bundle.
Overall, I think that this Bosch laser measuring tool and self-leveling cross-line laser bundle is a great starter kit for apprentices, or DIYers and homeowners.
For pro users, I would think that the laser distance measuring tool should satisfy many residential or light commercial needs. Although the same could be said about the cross-line laser, I think that it might be too basic for professional use beyond light or occasional tasks. Pros might still appreciate its small size, light weight, and the fact that it’s inexpensive and much more easily replaceable than premium models that can cost several hundreds of dollars.
Separately, the two tools are priced at $89 and $45 at Home Depot. The laser distance measuring tool is $85 elsewhere (and eligible for $20 off $10), and the GLL 2 sometimes drops to a seasonal price of $40. So, at face value, the deal gives you $134 in tools for $79. At the least, if you’re patient and shop around, the lowest price on the two separate tools is $125.
Even if you just want the laser distance measuring tool, you’re essentially getting it a discount, and getting the Bosch GLL 2 cross-line laser level for free.

FYI, they had that deal already on March 2nd – i ordered it at that time. Same price, same items.

Thanks for mentioning this deal. I just ordered one!

I have a similarly sized Bosch laser measurer. The fractional readout is impossible for me to read, and is a HUGE drawback for me. The above product image is at a bit of an angle; head over to the Amazon page for a straight-on product image. Then, re-size the image on your computer screen until it’s close to the actual device size (4.1 inches in length). This will give you a pretty good idea of how crazy-small the fractions appear.

Just ordered, Thanks!

I have the GLL2 and it’s been very nice inside the house. Setting it up can be a bit tricky as you have to have it close to level for the auto leveling thing to work. It can be a bit of a pain sometimes to get it right. In a dark basement, the 30ft max was pushing it. At that distance the laser line is almost 3/16 thick and very faint. I haven’t had much success using it outside.

Went to buy, but sold out online. Oh well. After your lack of outdoor success, I’m not as angry

Speaking of laser measurers- Was a lowes yesterday & they had the smallest laser measurerer i’ve ever seen. Certainly a EDC laser measurer.

I’ve seen some really small laser distance measuring tools. Honestly, I’m not the biggest fan. For less frequent or irregular use, built-in rechargeable batteries can be less convenient compared to AAA batteries.

Hum… now that you mention it. I didn’t even think what type of battery it might use. I can see how that would be a pain in the butt.

I was told today that there was a big increase in Dewalt laser level prices as of today. Has anyone hear anything on this?
