Over at Amazon, they kicked off a Black Friday 2018 Bosch power tool deal a little early. Between yesterday and today, the price of the excellent Bosch ROS20VSC 5″ random orbit sander dropped to $49, from $69.
This is a great price on a highly recommended 5″ sander.

kman
now $43.16 on amazon

I still only see $49 by Amazon directly and $69 from other sellers. Maybe you saw a 3rd party listing that came and went?

That’s a good deal. I’ve had one for a couple of years and it’s been good.

I have this one, a great sander. Looking at the dewalt 20v to add to my collection, but I’m concerned about the weight. Anyone used it at eye level or above and can speak to that weight?
Nathan
might buy this if they don’t charge me tax – otherwise I’d get it from lowes
I’m eyeing a new sander anyway.

I still see $43.16 but its my business price. Maybe it is lower than normal pricing?
Stuart
Amazon does have lower pricing on certain items for business accounts, or at least that’s what they say every time they try to get me to sing up for one.

I’ve been watching this for a while and I’ve read online elsewhere a lot of complaints of reliability of the unit itself (motor, pad, dust collection) , so I’ve been hesitant to get this, even at $49. I’m now leaning towards one of the following:
Makita BO5041
DeWalt DWE6423K

I haven’t heard of issues like that yet.
When I was searching for a random orbit sander years ago, I wanted the Bosch, as it aced uniformity and dust collection tests in woodworking magazines, but I had a Home Depot gift card and went with Ridgid, which was also well regarded.
I have a Bosch 1/4 sheet sander that I really like. No issues of any kind.
If not the Bosch, I think I’d look at the Dewalt ROS.

So I bought this from Lowes on Friday afternoon I had to go to work anyway so might as well pop in.
I got a shop vac too but I put that in the other thread.
Anyway – got it home, works well. I can’t really imagine one running stronger but I guess it could. using their adapter – and the new shop vac – and 1-1/4 hose – etc.
seems to work well grabbing made dust – even with sanding primed wood. something that usually makes very fine particles. when the piece was smooth – it ran smooth. But I did sand some rough ply on 60 grit and it jerked and moved all over – but so has every other RO sander I’ve ever used so I really think that’s normal. it’s going to grab sometimes.
I do love the speed control. if this fails I’ll either buy another bosch or a dewalt I think.
