April Tools Day Jokes: New 18V Rechargeable MIG Welder (ToolGuyd) Snap-on Buys Central Purchasing/Harbor Freight (UncleJoe via GarageJournal) Congress to Ban DIY Home Improvement (found by Jay)
What you see here is the world’s first portable cordless MIG welder that is powered by a rechargeable 18V battery. This new welder features an onboard wire spool, a hot-swappable CO2 tank connector port, 2-stage trigger, heavy-duty motor and gearbox, and tool-less disassembly.
Wera has recently announced the Koloss, a new heavy duty 1/2″ drive addition to their lineup of innovative ratchets. Even stranger in appearance than Wera’s swivel-head Zyklop ratchet, the Koloss features a ratchet built into a hammer head. Yes, that’s right, the Koloss is a real ratchet-hammer combo tool that is said to be unbreakable.
I spotted this creatively altered image of a hammer-ratchet multitool over at the ShopNGarage forum. It may be hard to believe, but as unusual as a hammer-ratchet multitool would be, I’ve been pitched strangers tool combination ideas before. Have a neat photoshopped/GIMPed multitool of your own? Send a pic of it our way via email. […]
Over at the Woodworking Show we recently visited, I spotted an incredible working wood geared clock kit by Woodline. These photos hardly do the clock justice – it was far more spectactular in person.
Did you know that Fastenal has a SmartStore program which sets up vending machines at industrial shops and factories? These vending machines can be stocked with first aid supplies, safety consumables such as goggles and gloves, cutting tools, general MRO supplies, and other such regularly used items.
Joby just added a new magnetic flexible legged mini tripod to their Gorillapod lineup. Our biggest gripe with the Gorillatorch, although minor, is that we could not [easily] modify it for use with 3rd party flashlights. Although the new Gorillapod Magnetic is intended for use with P&S cameras, it shouldn’t be too difficult to craft a custom […]
Via their Facebook page, Snap-on recently discussed how one could skin and customize their Snap-on tool storage. While we understand and can appreciate the desire to customize and personalize a tool box, designs like this seem to be a bit too ostentatious.
Right after we posted our review of Channellock’s new 6.5″ V-Jaw pliers, Josh from Brown Dog Welding left a comment via twitter that he uses the hell out of his Channellocks. We love seeing tools in action, so we asked Josh for a pic.
The first user reviews of the Paulding Hammer have started pouring in. Here is what Sam S. shared with us via a comment about The Hammer: I purchased one of the pre-production models of this hammer from Paulding and consider it the finest of my tools, and I have no light weight assembly of tools… […]
The Hammer, designed and crafted by John Paulding, is by far one of the most magnificent tools that we have ever laid our eyes upon. Still, merely describing The Hammer as a machinists hammer, as exemplary as it is, would never do it justice. Not just a tool, The Hammer is a work of art!
With all this talk of the world’s smallest snowman, I’ve decided to show you a few of the electron micrographs that I’ve taken of a #2-56 machine screw. A few weeks ago, to better familiarize myself with a new scanning electron microscope, I had decided to take a look at a machine screw before moving […]
Grip-on’s 727-08 ErgoGrip locking pliers sure are a strange a sight with its right-angle pistol-grip design. With a 70-degree angled design, these pliers are intended to reduce hand strain and fatigue, and are ideal for use in confined spaces. They are also claimed to exert for up to 50% more force in twisting applications. Proto […]
In celebration of the New York Yankees’ World Series victory, we set out to find Yankee-themed tools and accessories. We already told you about a nifty Yankee-themed screwdrivers, but did you know that there are also Yankee-themed bucket organizers, tool belts, and tool bags? Not a Yankee fan? That’s okay, Fantasia offers similar tool organizers emblazoned […]
Brown Dog Welding, previously admired here on ToolGuyd, has released several new fantastic looking sculptures. One of the designs that appeals most to us is the Big Horn chopper, shown above. Another great looking piece is the Speedy Gonzales, shown below.
Over on ToolSnob, they posted about a new Rotate-a-Blade utility knife concept design. The Rotate-a-Blade allows the blade to be rotated from normal cutting mode to scraper mode, and then to a right-angle cutting mode. In contrast, only the cutting depth can be adjusted on normal utility knives can only cutting depth adjustment. Head on over […]
Joby just announced their new Gorillatorch – a nifty looking hands-free flashlight/worklight, and boy are we excited. We’re huge fans of Joby’s Gorillapod ball and socket legged mini tripods, so naturally this got our attention. The Gorillatorch is of course bendable and easily positioned. Its legs are composed from medical-grade ABS plastic and TPE rubber, and its […]
Although we often heard good things about Cool Tools, our cable provider does not offer the DIY network, so we’ve never been able to watch full episodes before. Until now! Early this morning we discovered that Cool Tools episodes are available for free via Hulu and DIY’s own website. We cannot yet tell you which […]
We just wanted to share with you the clever marketing images we found on Swanson’s website. Keep reading to see three more.
