Home Depot is having a “Spring Cyber Monday” online-only sale today. As part of their sale, Home Depot is selling Ryobi’s Auto Hammer for an obscenely low $20. We reviewed the Auto Hammer a few months ago, and had some mixed feelings about. At $20 (plus shipping), the Auto Hammer now costs less than a […]
It looks like Starrett recently released a new ProSite miter saw protractor, the 505P-7. The new 7″ protractor is made from plastic and includes the same angle-finding features and laser-engraved scales as the aluminum versions. Because it’s made from plastic, the 505P-7 is about half the price of Starrett’s aluminum miter saw protractors, at about […]
Wera’s new Koloss 1/2″ drive hammer ratchet has finally arrived! I received a sample from ChadsToolbox that I’m currently testing, but I just couldn’t wait that long to post some teaser pics of it. Check out the gallery at the end of this post!
I just checked the prices on Wera’s Zyklop ratchets, and they appear to be the lowest they’ve ever been! Over at ChadsToolbox, the 1/4″ Zyklop ratchet is $54, the 3/8″ ratchet is $60, and the 1/2″ is $$66. If you can find a Wera coupon code, that’ll drop the prices even further! Prices for these […]
It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of Woodpeckers Woodworking Precision Tools. Many of their tools and accessories are novel designs, and are extremely well made (here in the USA). To help inspire last minute entries to our $50 gift card giveaway, following are the five tools at the top of my own Woodpeckers wishlist.
Wiha’s (36259) 10-piece tamper proof Torx screwdriver set has dropped in price recently on Amazon. This 16 piece watch and band opener tool kit has an assortment of watch maintenance and repair tools that are otherwise difficult to find or expensive. Would we use these tools on valuable watches or heirlooms? Absolutely not! But for typical everyday watches, this kit should suffice. At $10, this kit pays for itself with one […]
Park Tool’s p-handled wrench set is the de-facto starter set for bicycle maintenance. Featuring a convenient Bondhus balldriver and a high-torque straight hex tip, these drivers are highly versatile, and can be used on bikes or around the home and shop.
Bucket Boss’s Rear Guard Tool Sheath is a small utility pouch that is great for carrying a a few tools around hands-free. The Rear Guard can be attached to an ordinary pants belt, and also has a flap that can be inserted into a back pocket for extra stability. I’ve been using a Rear Guard for quite some time now […]
This past December, I had the opporunity to check out one of these immensely popular 11-in-1 survival cards firsthand, and I thought it was junk. The tool’s knife and saw were dull and in awkward positions, with the other features being as equally unimpressive.
Reader Don sent us an email asking for help in finding 8-foot level reviews and recommendations. If you have expereince with an 8-foot level, do you prefer to use a box level, or an I-beam level, and why? I would think that an I-beam level may be lighter and easier to use (not to mention cheaper), […]
Normally I hate, hate, HATE cheap crappy bits, but you never know when one might come in handy. Afterall, a poor quality bit is still better than no bit at all when you really need one. There are a few sets that caught my attention over at amazon:
Leatherman has recently come out with two new tactical multitools, the MUT Utility, and MUT EOD. These MUT multitools are overbuilt and feature specialty tools for cleaning and maintaining the M16/AR15 family of assault rifles.
It appears that Leatherman’s popular Skeletool and Skeletool CX compact pocket multitools have switched blades. The Skeletool now features a partially serrated blade, whereas the CX now has a full plain-edge blade.
PB Swiss Tools has just announced that they’ve come up with two newly redesigned Insider compact screwdrivers, creatively named Insider 2 and Insider 3. These new Insiders feature an integrated bit holding magazine that looks to provide even quicker access to the interchangeable onboard insert bits.
Right now Amazon has some great pricing on Bondhus BriteGuard Balldriver L hex wrench sets. Bondhus’s long length 13 piece SAE set covering sizes 0.050 to 3/8″ is currently priced at about $13 ~$21, and the 15 piece metric set covering sizes 1.27 to 10mm is priced at $17.20 ~$20. If you don’t need as many sizes, […]
Wera has recently announced the Koloss, a new heavy duty 1/2″ drive addition to their lineup of innovative ratchets. Even stranger in appearance than Wera’s swivel-head Zyklop ratchet, the Koloss features a ratchet built into a hammer head. Yes, that’s right, the Koloss is a real ratchet-hammer combo tool that is said to be unbreakable.
I came across a rather enlightening shop tip over at the ShopNGarage forum, that demonstrates the use of a wire stripper’s loop holes. Most of my wire strippers have similar holes, but they’re all unlabeled and I never stopped to think about what they could be used for. Well, now I know!
I spotted this tiny non-marring hammer over at a recent Woodworking show. With dime-sized replaceable brass and plastic heads, this hammer is most likely used for precision tool setup or maintenance, unless there are other woodworking applications that I’m not yet aware of.
Reader JD was kind enough to share a very detailed review of a recently purchased 8oz brass American Hammer with us. If you recall, American Hammer is currently holding a direct-sales promotion and has heavily discounted many of their hammers.
