Leatherman’s Super Tool isn’t an ordinary multi-tool…
20 pliers for <$100. What do you think? A good value or should quality come before quantity?
Our post on cheap mini pliers caught the attention of Lindstrom, who then sent us two cutters and two pliers for evaluation and comparison. After using them for a bit, I can honestly say that they beat the springs off all the other precision and mini pliers that I have ever used. Calling them tools is […]
As we previously reported, Channellock has recently introduced an improved version of their #369 linemen’s pliers. We have one in-hand and wondered how it differed from Channellock’s previous design. Channellock says that they moved the rivet closer to the cutter to provide the additional leverage, but it also looks like the new rivet is a bit […]
I found myself needing to upgrade from the wire crimpers found on my all-in-one wire stripper tool. During a stroll through the local home improvement store, I found a few affordable options and ultimately chose Channellock’s 909 crimpers. I’ve been working with terminals and butt connectors more often, but not enough to justify the purchase of a costly crimper. […]
If you’re looking for a new pair of general purpose pliers, consider Knipex’s high leverage 8-inch combination pliers. These pliers feature dual component handles grips, high leverage jaws, hardened cutters capable of cutting soft and hard wire (even piano wire), and serrated jaw zones for gripping flat and round materials. These pliers will set you back about $25 […]
I rarely work with retaining snap rings, but when I do they sometimes come at me in waves of different styles and sizes. While my changeable multi-tip internal and external snap ring pliers are great to use, changing those tips out many times in a single project can be quite tedious.
Channellock has recently introduced new and improved 9.5″ linemen’s pliers (#369). Their design engineers moved the plier’s pivot rivet closer to the cutter surfaces, giving the tool greater leverage and cutting power. This tool also features cross-hatched jaw serrations, a grooved crushing area, and knife-anvil style cutters (preferred over double-sharp cutters). These cutters can be used […]
SK Hand Tools’ 2-piece compound pliers set is on sale for $35 via Amazon. The set includes two long-reach pliers: one with straight jaws, and the other with 45° angled tips. The last time we saw this set on sale was over a year ago, and the price was $40 plus $9 shipping. With an average retail range of […]
The ToolClip is the newest pocket-sized multi-tool in Sog’s growing lineup. Despite its size, Sog manages to pack a lot of features into the ToolClip – compact plier with wire cutter and spring-return, a knife blade, 2 screwdrivers, a file, and pocket clip. I’ve got to say, it looks pretty darn good. The list price is […]

The other day there was a thread over at the Garage Journal polling members about whether they preferred quantity or quality when it comes to tools. As much as I prefer to use better quality tools, there are times when quantity and selection are a higher priority.

Channellock has put together a nice gift set featuring their 412 6.5″ V-Jaw pliers and 422 9.5″ V-Jaw pliers. If you recall, we reviewed the small V-Jaw pliers a few months ago, and found them to be incredibly versatile. V-Jaw pliers are great for grasping round cylindrical objects, as well as odd-sized shapes.

We’re a huge fan of Channellock products, so when they offered us the opportunity to review their new 412 V-Jaw pliers, we couldn’t refuse! As mentioned in our recent preview post of the 412 pliers, Channellock introduced this smaller 6.5-inch version of their V-Jaw pliers for use on small tubing and round stock. We found that […]
