Bosch recently announced a new line of heavy-duty 18V impact wrenches. These new tools can provide a heck of a punch – 500 ft. lb. of max torque, and are [relatively] lightweight at 6.7lbs with a 10″ head length. Taking a quick look at a few of the other high-torque 18V impact wrenches on the market, […]
My article on hammer drills just went live on Popular Mechanics’ website. Titled Who Needs a Hammer Drill, the article discusses the benefits of a hammer drill, the differences between various tool styles, and talks a little about the appropriate drill bits. If you’re at all curious about hammer drills, check it out! Who Needs a Hammer […]
Earlier this month we wrote about the new Ridgid JobMax starter kits on Home Depot’s website that feature the standard starter kit and a free attachment tool head of choice, but people had problems getting on the deal. It looks like Home Depot fixed things – the kits are no longer “out of stock” and […]
Today only, Amazon sliced the price of this Milwaukee M12 2-tool kit. Included is an M-Spector digital inspection camera (2310), and an M12 compact screwdriver (2401). The kit normally costs $250, today it’s discounted to $159. Following is a rundown of basic specs and features.
We took a look through Sears’ Black Friday sales flyer ahead of time, and hand-picked a few of the best to share with you.
The first tool of Dewalt’s new 12V Max compact cordless tool lineup that we’ll be reviewing is the 3/8″ drill/driver DCD710S2. We already reviewed the handle and common features of the 12V Max lineup, so you may want to check that out before or after this one. As expected, the drill was a pleasure to use, and […]
Porter Cable’s new Quik Jig pocket hole system has recently hit stores. If you recall, the Quik Jig is a good looking pocket hole drilling jig that Porter Cable recently came out with. The Quik Jig has been praised in early reviews for its repeatability and ease of use. Given its $230 price tag, I hesitate […]
Dewalt just announced their new Impact Clutch (DWHJHLD) accessory holder that they say will help alleviate some of the frustrations encountered in heavy-duty impact driver applications. Common high-torque issues include bit tip breakage, fastener stripping and fastener breakage.
Over at HomeDepot.com, you can now find new Ridgid JobMax starter kits that include the tools you want for less money. Previously, getting the tool you wanted to start with meant having to buy the power handle & multi-tool starter kit for $100 and a separate tool head for $50 more. These new kits offer the […]
Dewalt’s new 12V Max cordless tool lineup is finally available. We mentioned these tools a few times thus far, and will be reviewing quite a few of them in upcoming weeks as well. From what we’ve seen already, they’re downright amazing.
Last fall we reviewed Milwaukee’s M12 cordless right angle drill, and found it to be a darn decent tool. It performed well, provided enough torque for RA applications, and had great ergonomics. It looks like a new M18 18-volt version is due to be released soon, so we compared the specs for the two tools.
Bosch’s Speed-X rotary hammer bits were announced a few months ago and were described as the fastest concrete bits available and touted as being 18 % more durable than any other concrete bit. We’re told that they’re now available, so check with your local Bosch distributor to give them a try.
An older model Ryobi cordless drill has just been recalled. Sold at Home Depot from January 2001 to July 2003, drill model HP 1802M is being recalled due to a flawed switch that can potantially overheat causing a fire and burn hazard. If you have a drill that looks like the one shown above with […]
The other day a buddy asked me to recommend a reasonably priced cordless drill kit. My personal choice would be to wait for a new Bosch combo to go on sale, but he wanted a kit for ~$200 right now. I ended up recommending Milwaukee’s M18 kit. This combo includes a fairly powerful drill and impact driver and two […]
The above-pictured Milwaukee drill/driver looks similar to their first generation 3/8″ drill/driver, but there is a huge difference between the two tools. This one is a hammer drill. That’s right, Milwaukee managed to cram the necessary hammer/vibratory mechanisms into their compact M12 cordless form factor!

The new RAID is designed for close-quarters work but should provide enough power for general purpose fastening tasks as well. Eager to see what it can do, we put Craftsman’s Nextec RAID to the test. In this hands-on […]
Woodpeckers just announced a new taller fence to go along with their drill press table. Whereas the fence included with their drill press table package is 1/2″ tall, the new DP3 fence provides a full 3″ of support. The anodized fence is 3/8″ thick x 3″ x 3″ and 23-1/2″ long. It has a 2″ wide notch at […]
Craftsman just announced a new edition to their compact lithium-ion powered NEXTEC cordless tool line – a right angle impact driver (17562). This RA impact driver is designed to drive fasteners in tight spaces and close quarters where other tools just cannot fit. The impact driver’s svelte height also means that the tool is held closer to the fastener […]
