On my weekly trip to Costco, I noticed that they had put up their holiday tool display. That means it’s once again time to pick the most notable deals.
All the same caveats apply from previous years:
- This isn’t an extensive list of all the tools they have for sale, just the ones I found interesting, or the ones I thought our readers might be interested in.
- Most of these deals are in-store and not online, although this year several more deals appeared on the Costco website. I can’t guarantee that every Costco location has every one of these deals. There’s also the chance that they’ve been sold out at your local Costco.
- Costco is a “club” style retailer, and you typically need a paid membership to shop there.
Porter Cable 5 Pc Cordless Power Tool Combo
First up is the new Porter Cable 5 tool combo shown above, and this is a different kit than what they offered last year as reflected by the $250 price.

What justifies a $150 increase in price? The addition of an impact driver, and wet/dry vac, but they’ve removed the flashlight and swapped out a 4Ah battery for another 2Ah battery. Here’s what comes in this kit:
- PCC601 Drill/Driver
- PCC641 Impact Driver
- PCC661 Circular Saw
- PCC671 Reciprocating Saw
- PCC795B Wet-Dry Vac
- PCC691 Charger
- (2) 2.0Ah 20V Max Batteries
This kit is available both in Costco stores and online.
Price: $250

Dewalt 173pc Polished Chrome Mechanics Tool Set

Last year the Dewalt tool sets were in black chrome, this year they’ve changed to polished chrome. While the black chrome looks cool, I’ve heard a lot of complaints about the sockets being harder to find when you drop them.
The above 173 piece mechanics set is selling for $99. I would expect this price to drop to something like $80 for a limited time sale like similar sets have in previous years. Here’s what you get in this kit:

Lifetime 6′ Folding Table

While not technically a tool, we really love our lifetime 6″ folding table. It stores easy, has a carrying handle, is easy to clean, and is nearly indestructible.
Costco is selling them for $50. Is this a good price? We paid $30 about 10 years ago and I’ve seen the same table selling for a lot more.
Price: $50
Heavy Duty Tarps

Last year they had same 12′ x 16′ reversible tarps in blue and brown for $22. It looks like this years colors are blue and silver. Other than the color, these appear to be the same tarps.
Price: $21
Presto Parabolic IR Heater

I’ve written many a post next to my Presto parabolic IR heater. It can definitely throw the heat. I’ll turn it on to medium, get into writing a post, and I’ll find 15 minutes later that I’m sweating.
The IR heater is 1000W and heats objects in the path of the parabolic reflector, not the air. It always comes out in the winter priced at $70, I don’t think I’ve ever seen discounted.
Price: $70
Did I miss some good deals at Costco? Let us know in the comments.

Some pretty good stuff actually. I have the SOG Powerlock multi-tool. It’s not the most modern multi-tool but it’s pretty robust. At a price like that I just may get the Poweraccess to put in one of my vehicles.
I think Dewalt mechanics tools are pretty solid, though there’s definitely nicer (and pricier) options.
That heat dish – could it be mounted to the ceiling or wall somehow? It made me wonder if it might be a nice way to add some directed heat in my shop – e.g. mount it to the roof and pointed at one of my work benches so it hits me in the back when I’m standing there.
Benjamen
The Presto has to be resting level on its base or else it emits a horrible buzzing sound and stops working.
I believe it’s a safety feature so that it doesn’t start something on fire if it gets knocked over.
Jared
Thanks for the info! Might have to ponder whether it’s worth building a shelf in the rafters for it to sit on or figure out a different idea.
The only heat I have now is from a barrel-stove, but I have a proper cast-iron wood-stove waiting for me to install it. I think it would be nice though to have something I could turn on quickly when I’m doing something that’s going to take less than 30 mins and doesn’t warrant starting a fire.
Koko The Talking Ape
You could just hang the heater from the rafters with baling wire. Attach three wires to the top and spread them like a pyramid so the heater doesn’t swing like a pendulum.
Or you could get an electric heater designed specifically for that application. Lee Valley sells one that isn’t too expensive.
https://www.leevalley.com/en-us/shop/tools/workshop/44590-quartz-overhead-radiant-heater
Yep, nice for instant heat. Also, not as sensitive to drafts as non-radiant heaters, because it heats you, not the air.
Tom D
The cheap version I have of the Presto has a very simple switch on the bottom – it wouldn’t take much effort to make sure the switch is depressed when mounted. I discovered it when trying to put it on a wire shelf – it wouldn’t work unless the switch was over one the wires and pressed in.
The Presto may have an actual mercury switch.

That $30 tool kit from dewalt looks awesome! I would definitely buy if i was a costco member.
Dave
Tracktor Supply offers it for $23.99 right now.

They had that kind last year and this year in their black Friday sale for$20. I picked up a couple last year as gifts, and then picked up a couple more this year for the same propose. Taiwanese, and the for and finish on the tools looks good, at least from the outside. Of the packaging.
Wayne R.
That Titan screwdriver set was in my hands yesterday; that’s a lot of tools for $20. But the handles looked uncomfortable and, the real killer to me, was a lack of tip-type marking on the butt.
I get it, it’s $20, but still…
Aaron SD
I got the Titan drivers a couple years ago but it came with a base for easy storage and the handles had the markings. I probably wouldn’t buy it today if I have to figure out storage.
I’ve also seen some rust on the sockets. It works fine when I need it and glad didn’t spend more.
AC
I saw that $49 DeWalt kit for $20 over the weekend.
AC
Sorry meant the $30 DeWalt kit was $20.
Perk
I bought the Dewalt 173pc Mechanics set last year as a gift for $79.
Andrew
The $30 kit was actually on sale for $20 up until 12/8. I had already purchased it last month and was able to get the $10 refund on my way out on Saturday.
Kizzle
All of this stuff was on sale a couple weeks ago. I’d wait and watch the prices.
Benjamen
This stuff wasn’t even at my Costco last week let alone two weeks ago, but I do think you are right that some of it will go on sale again.
Kizzle
Weird. I work at Costco and have seen this same stuff for months at my location.
Gordon
You can always buy now and price match later. I did that with my Nest and they gave me $30 instantly.
Adam
I’m in the market for a shop vac and that model is $170 at HD, wondering if anyone has any thoughts on it? I figured I’d pay around $100 for a good shop vac on sale so this looks like a pretty decent option to me.
David
HD listed it as 2.5in and 90 cfm. Hose size probably is wrong and I don’t know if the cfm is correct. If it’s correct, I don’t think it a good deal if compared with this $32 shopvac at walmart with 130 cfm 120V 9.9 Amps

I really hate these fake peak HP thing.

This seems like a good deal, I have seen this kit on amazon for $299, but wasn’t sure, any feedback?
