Black and Decker Ready Wrench

We’ve commented about Black & Decker’s Ready Wrench before, and we’re not huge fans of it. 16 metric and SAE socket wrench sizes in 8 sockets? That just doesn’t add up! In any case, the Ready Wrench dropped in price to below $20.

Despite our disdain for it, the Ready Wrench seems to be decent for infrequent uses, and might make for a decent Father’s Day gift for beginner DIYers.

Noooo Stuey… You can’t possible recommend this garbage to anyone. Thinking back to when I was a beginner DIYer, and knowing what I know now, I would have much preferred a $20 sears gift card for Father’s day over this useless tool!

While you and I wouldn’t care for something like this, some people apparently do. This item has been on Amazon’s best-seller’s list for weeks, and is currently the #8 most wished for home improvement item.

Beginners (lifetime beginners) really seem to enjoy all-in-one tools like this. It seems like it would be acceptable for one use every 1-2 years. That’s not really a recommendation, more like a cautious determination.

I try to avoid letting personal biases and feelings get in the way of pointing out a decent deal. Back around Thanksgiving, the tool was priced at $30, and when it dropped to $20 on sale, people went nuts over it. When it was $15 on Black Friday, people were even crazier. The price jumped back to $30, and still people bought more and more of them.

I felt that the tool’s current $17-18 price warranted a brief mention.

The Craftsman version is made by Thorsen. That being said, Costco has the Thorsen SAE & Metric set for $17. You can also find the Thorsen dog bones at HF for about $15 each.
