Dewalt Drill Driver $99 Holiday Special

It’s that time of year again, when early winter holiday deals start popping up all over the place. This particular Dewalt 18V cordless drill driver kit seems to go on sale year after year, and usually hovers between $100 and $120.

Amazon struck first, and is offering the DC970K-2 kit for $99. The drill features a 1/2″ single-sleeve chuck, 2-speed gearbox (0-450/0-1500 RPM), and 380 unit watts out motor. It comes with two Ni-Cd batteries, a 1-hour charger, and a carrying case.

Our Impression

We consider this a “special edition” cordless drill that typically only pops up round the holidays. Perhaps that’s why it’s not listed on Dewalt’s website. The drill/driver is large, bulky, heavy, and comes with small-capacity Ni-Cd batteries and a slow charger.

Even so, the drill is a powerhouse, and a great value at $100. Right now the drill kit ranks #1 on Amazon’s power drill bestseller chart. That doesn’t really mean much as the list is also populated with a bunch of outdated and junky products, but we have seen this and similar kits fly off the shelves at home improvement stores every Christmas.

We would instead recommend a solid lithium-ion-powered cordless drill, such as the slightly more expensive Craftsman heavy duty drill with XCP tech, but can think of no better kit for $100.
