We previewed Dewalt’s 2AA LED flashlight two years ago (DWHT70644), and have been eagerly waiting to see if and when it would hit the market.
There are a couple of things you should know about this flashlight.
First, it’s compact. But not too compact. If you’re familiar with Maglites, this flashlight is about the size of a 2xAA mini Maglite LED flashlight. This is a good size for a glove box, tool box, kitchen drawer, or tool belt. Because it’s powered by AA batteries, the flashlight is a little too big to be carried as a pocketable companion light, but this also means that it should run longer than most high-powered penlights.
Next, it’s bright. 80 lumens doesn’t sound like much these days, but it’s more than enough for most general purpose lighting tasks. There are no brightness levels or options aside from on and off.
Lastly, it’s durable, or at least it seems durable. I wouldn’t say super-durable, but for $15 it’s better put together than I would have expected. Dewalt designed this flashlight with a shatter-resistant lens and rates it as having a drop impact resistant of 2-meters.
Battery runtime is ~4 hours. The flashlight housing is described as being water-resistant (but not waterproof).
At $15, this flashlight is a great bargain.

Alternatively, Maglite’s 2AA mini LED flashlights are a few bucks more and are largely made in the USA. They’re priced at about $18 via Amazon. A few bucks more than that, and you can get a mini Maglite Pro that’s brighter and operated with a simpler user interface. Still, it’s hard to beat the bang for the buck this new Dewalt LED flashlight offers.
