Dewalt Corded Drill Recall Feb 2019

Dewalt has announced the recall of two corded drills, DWD110, and DWD112, due to a potential shock hazard where internal wiring can contact moving parts.

About 122,000 units are affected, including another 8,000 sold on Canada. The drills were sold at Home Depot, Lowes, Amazon, and other hardware stores and online retailers.

The affected drills were sold between September 2017 and November 2018, and have date codes 2017-37-FY through 2018-22-FY.

If your drill is included in this recall, STOP using it immediately and contact Dewalt to schedule a free inspection and repair.

I’m just amazed they actually sold 130,000 smaller corded drills a year in NA!
To me that’s the bullet point.
    Thoughts?

I thought the number was high, but it’s hard to draw any conclusions or assumptions from it.

That looks a lot like the “new” Craftsman corded drills (CRAFTSMAN 7-Amp 3/8-in Keyless Corded Drill). Are they included in the recall??

Pretty sure the Craftsman model is a reworked Porter Cable. That drill looks to be no longer available at Lowes. They both share the lock on button and the Dewalt doesn’t have one. Though they probably all 3 share a lot of components. There really haven’t been any upgrades to these things in decades other than cosmetics.

If the Craftsman drill were included in the recall, it would be mentioned (I’ve seen numerous brand recall notices before), or a separate recall would have been published at the same time.
