Dewalt’s DCD771C2 20V Max cordless drill/driver kit is back for the 2015 Father’s Day holiday shopping season. I’ve written about this drill before, and have seen some very mixed thoughts about it. By now, very many users have left glowing reviews about the drill kit, increasing my optimism towards this model.
Some people are unhappy to see a scaled-down 20V Max drill. I was, at first. It’s a Dewalt drill for the masses, if you will. A sort of consumerized version. Others are glad for an inexpensive way to buy into Dewalt’s 20V Max cordless Li-ion power tool platform, and it also means you get legendary Dewalt quality in a more affordable package.
I typically compare the DCD771 to Dewalt’s other brushed motor drill models, but there’s little need to spit product specs out at you again. You can see technical details in some of the posts and discussions that have been tagged under our “Dewalt DCD771” section.
In a nutshell, this drill is slightly less powerful, slightly larger, slightly heavier, and slightly slower than Dewalt’s other cordless drills, with slightly being a big keyword. It’s also bundled with a slower charger and slightly smaller battery packs (1.3 Ah).
Still, it’s a $99 drill – which is more than what my first cordless drill cost – and a less-than-$100 way to buy into Dewalt’s 20V Max platform with 2 compact batteries and a charger. It’s easy to see why this appears to have been hugely popular over the past couple of holiday seasons (it came out holiday 2013).
